well the problem with communism is that when you socialise the means of production it always leads to everyone being worse off than they ever were before. when china started reforming its economy they realized that half the government owned businesses were running at a loss and overall socialised companies were growing at less than half the rate of private ones.

well the problem with communism is that when you socialise the means of production it always leads to everyone being worse off than they ever were before. when china started reforming its economy they realized that half the government owned businesses were running at a loss and overall socialised companies were growing at less than half the rate of private ones.

the problem is that government owned companies are far more inefficient than private ones, meaning the government has to spend money to prop them up.
look at china - over half the government owned companies were running at a loss and had to be subsidized by the government and overall their economic growth was far lower than private companies.
the welfare state at socialism advocates does not create the wealth. capitalism has to first create the wealth that socialists want to tax.

after the british left the indians had a government that implemented numerous socialist policies intended to redistribute the wealth and bring many people out of poverty. the idea was a noble thing. however in practice it increased corruption across the nation and economic growth slowed to a crawl. it was only when india started implementing free market reforms that its economy really kicked off. it is the free market generating that wealth which will help people, not socialism.

the increased corruption in india was because the government was trying to create a welfare state and the government by its very definition is a monopoly.
you cannot redistribute the wealth of a nation if there is NO wealth to begin with like in india. the only nations on earth that have ever lifted themselves out of poverty have been capitalist.

Wealth is made up in the economic sense. Education is wealth, well-being is wealth... Not how many invisible bank credits you have or don't have, in which you can use to exploit people from else fortunate countries.

no I am looking at the facts, not ideology which you are. and the facts are clear: which system has led to totalitarianism every single time it has been attempted? socialism. which economic system is the only one in which national democracies can exist? capitalism.
how the fuck is the free market creating wars? last time i checked it was an economic system where people were free to work and sell at their own will.

you do realise that under Chávez's there has been NO improvements to the literacy, poverty or social and economic welfare of the poor under him other than can be explained by rising oil prices. furthermore, under him resources are being directed away from the poor even as oil profits are surging
under him highly distorted economy in which the government effectively subsidizes two-thirds of the costs of imports and foreign travel for the wealthy while the poor cannot find basic food items

That's because he has become corrupt, like everyone else. Again, I NEVER said Chavez was a good guy, just a revolutional one. And it's funny how you say that like we don't have 10,000's of homeless people around our own country. While bank profits surge, while mineral based profits surge... Yet people are getting poorer and poorer. Strange. Funny how our own government subsidies international companies while the honest store owner goes out of business.

Your starting to see the point.. Because that's all they have EVER known. Einstein would not of been Einstein without his up-bringing, Hitler would not have been Hitler is had a different upbringing. Change has to start with the individual, who in turns passes it on. I would expect much change for atleast the next 50 years until the older generations die out and give way to new thoughts, new ideas, new practices.

this is exactly why they call socialism utopian. please, socialists have been claiming that these things will happen for hundreds of years and they haven't. socialism will work when you can convince someone to hand over every single cent to the government that they've earned except the amount to clothe and feed them. you have to abolish incentives basically. how about we stop this conversation and you get back to me when you manage that ok?

I don't think it's stupid at all.. Imagine if there was no need for exchange? If people could have everything they needed without the exploitation. I know where your coming from, but the 'free' market' system is just as corrupt as everything else you describe. The free market is run by People, it's an idea, a cute one sure.. But nothing more. In practice in just causes more poverty.

please tell me who is going to force everyone to share what they earn. there will always been people in society who will do more than others and why should they not be rewarded for this? the people in our society who choose to work 60 hour weeks are the ones whose taxes subsidise the poor. in your system what incentive will there be for people to work that hard?

There is no need to force people to do anything. It's up to the people themselves, up to people like you. To change. Many of us are already on that path, I would love to work for the people, to provide what I can for my country and country man, not just myself. I'm already a volunteer at several institutions doing what I can. The problem is YOU... And people like you, who don't think there can be any other way than what youve been taught

Again.. there is no need to force anyone, it's about change. If you havn't noticed, people are FORCED to go to work everyday just so they can provide themselves and their families with the basics. While a select few reap the benefits from others suffering.

are you really so stupid to think that the main drivers of our economy would work those hours if they were not receiving any economic incentive for it? if you remove the incentive for someone to earn money then they aren't too likely to do something are they?
you idiot you do realise that in those regions if there were no sweat shops the people would either starve or have to perform more dangerous, worse paid jobs. its like britain - during the industrial revolution the bad jobs were BETTER PAID

no, they will NOT work those hours because there will be NO incentive for them to do so. their extra productivity and taxes will not benefit society at all.
you fool to quote another individual who summed it up: if there were no sweatshops then the people would have to either:
A) Return to prostitution
B) Get abducted and become Force Labor
C) Get killed in Faction Based Warfare
D) Return to poverty and starve to death

Are you even reading what your writing? Your argument is that because some old guys predictions didn't come true, socialism is flawed. Secondly, Marx pioneered communism, not socialism, there is a distinct difference. How ever I still take the compliment.

marx advocated socialism as the step towards communism. that is what i was referring too.
secondly Marx's main argument was that capitalism was so weak and flawed that it would shortly collapse. HE WAS WRONG about that. so it shows that his whole ideology of capitalism being weak was ALSO WRONG

It IS weak? What exactly do you call these depressions? The only difference being is that when things turn bad in a capitalist society, people stick with it and improve it, not just abandon the idea and the science behind it. Why? Because people are dumb and greedy. Because some company sneezes the whole world goes to the brink of collapse, and it gets worse and people lose more and more every time this reoccuring event happens.

the depressions? oh you mean the current GFC where the american government had a policy of forcing the banks to give out loans to lower income households because it would be nice? the government then kept interest rates artificially low while the housing boom grew and when inflation went too high it was the lower income houses that went broke and burst the bubble? that crisis? THAT WAS CAUSED BY GOVERNMENT INTERFERENCE IN THE FREE MARKET YOU FOOL.

I am truly done with this now. I can only hope people reading this can establish an opinion of their own and see what a farce this system is. And you sir. If your actually at uni doing something useful, then we may meet face to face one day, but of that, I doubt. One day you may come around, again of which, I doubt. Either way the world will see how this plays out, for better or worse. I can only hope its not for the latter. I will strive to see these ideas and dreams come true.
