thrash was actually a combination of Black Metal(i.e. venom), british heavy metal(motorhead and iron maiden), and punk(Misfits and later DRI). Punk shaped so many genres of music. When anyone hears the word "punk" today, they don't know what to think. One time this kid asked me if my brother listens to metal like i do(my brother is a punk) and i said "some but he mostly listens to punk" and the kid said "whats the difference". Just proves how ignorant and uneducated people are.
