Hi Zolas The chain drive took up way less space and weighed very little -not to mention 4 litres of oil less ! I got seven lead acid batteries located at the very bottom of the car .
When I fitted the gearbox -it dropped to 3 and the car became less powerful. Also experiencing this in the MGF with gbox . Send me a Zilla 2K for Xmas ! Cheers
Hi, I used a V belt as the first test ,but no matter how tight I made it -it would slip. A toothed system would solve it. But at a cost . I would use that if it was a trike . The MR2 chassis is now for sale , I am testing with a gearbox in a Rover MGF.Should be moving next week.
Hi , No the motor is whisper quiet. The main issue is the "chordal effect"- the chain sprocket interaction . And the other 3 sprockets and chain are still not rubber mounted and it resonates right through the car ! I am trying to rebuild the real gearbox now.
does the motor make the noise when no chains are hooked up?
Chains would be quieter if you could build an enclosed housing though of course thats a lot more work. I like the idea though, I was originally going to go that route with my EV MR2. Does this setup have a differential?
The chain is just another moving part not needed in the Ev conversion.
Im working on my own mr2 conversation all i did was have a machinist mate the 9' dc motor to the gear box.
This method will be far more quiet and will take up less room allowing me to place more Lithium phosphate batteries.

It is only driving the left wheel , but its possible to create a clutch based diff for two wheel drive.
