hi zimmerscope.. just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I've been brewing now for about a year.. and many batches later I owe a lot to you for giving me the balls to get started.
nice methord. but i rather to use a 25 ltr fermenter and buy a kit malt eg. coppers draught and keg it rather them washing all then bottles much much easier!!
@Zimmerscope Have you tried any gluten free beer brewing?. I made banana honey millet beer, it tastes great, and has the same alcohol content if not more! ,and its way easier to digest .
Great vid. I've been wanting to do this for a while and I think now's the time. One problem though, I don't have a kid to help me. Is it okay to use someone else's kid and are you supposed to let the parents know first? What if the parents say no? Is it okay to use them anyway? Some people can be real jerks you know. Sorry for the questions, I'm new at this.
That's the best tutorial I've seen. Good job. I'm go grab my son and make some beer. Who knows I mite run it through the still and make shine jk. No not really. Thanks for the vid.
At a chemistry seminar I attended through my place of employment. There were vendor booths set up in the main hall, and I think the sticker came from lab supplier VWR.
Great job, thank you for posting this video. It has really helped a lot. I am starting my first brew today. Im tackling an English Brown Ale. We'll see how it goes.
Ummm, cool video, but wow lots of mistakes here. You made it look easy to people who wouldn't know any better, but you are going to have contaminated beer with the way you did that. Also, beer is suppose to be served in a glass. ALL BEER, but especially home brew. There will be sediment at the bottom and each time you swig that bottle back you will be stirring up that sediment and drinking it. If you pour it in a glass not only will you avoid that sediment but you will have a better beer.
Yes, the point of the video is to show that brewing IS easy.
The video notes a sanitizing agent is needed for making beer and shows how to prepare a solution for sanitizing. It also shows to sanitize all materials that come into contact with the wort.
Yes, beer is better in a glass, but drinking it out of a bottle is not a "mistake." The beer was being served at a friend's home, and so I didn't wish to create dishes. Also, there was no sediment, so that was not a problem.
@Eaglerick23 Well, what's a little sediment between friends rofl? Besides, the brewer pour HIS into a glass, the rest of his "friends" got that evil sediment filled bottle.
@jmohno i stir my wort in an ice bath and it works very very well... usually my wort is 1.5 gallons and i pre-boil 1.5 gallons of water (to sterilize the water) and freeze it in ziplock bags. Then pour my wort into another sanitized container with the ice.. it cools it down very very fast.
Don't ever use distilled water, doesn't have enough minerals needed for a good beer. Were those grains soaked long enough? Mine always stay in for a good 30 min. Also I didn't realize hops were fermentable. I will call you crazy for liking the smell of yeast, how do you not say you love the smell of hops instead? Looked like you left no room for carbonation in that bomber bottle, should be an inch of empty neck or else you could have some beer grenades there. AREN'T I CRITICAL?
@fatsachs how bout adding trace minerals to distilled water?now you can use distilled water.how would you know how clean that spring water is.as far as i can remember carbon filters filter out minerals as well.so isnt store bought spring water filtered anyway? or am i wrong? about to brew but distilled would have to be the purest water.any suggestions?
@jmohno You can just call the company's 1-800 number and get a water report that'll tell you the mineral content of the spring water. Sure they're filtered but that doesn't remove all the natural minerals within it, typically there's plenty left in there to produce a good beer. Or, you can do all that with the distilled water if you want I suppose. I've never had an issue with spring water myself and I know many long time brewers who won't use anything else.
@ajmcdavis 5 gallon Carboy $30, (I don't know what the hell a fermentation stopper is so $0), Ale pail $10-$15, Auto syphon $12, freezing-boiling thermometer $10, large stock pot $10, beer kit $30-$50, hydrometer $7-$10, bottling wand $5, stopper and airlock $3, bottles (free if you save your own, pricey if you buy them) and sanitizer $5. Cost is anywhere from $150 - $180 to get started.
it's also funny when your son is asking about why you are putting the siphon into the beer and you ignore him lol. btw, i'm probably going to follow this video. it is done real professionally with some good tips.
Yes, everything in the video directly related to the beer - equipment, ingredients, sugar, the bottles - was purchased at Northern Brewer in the Twin Cities, MN. Good luck!
Great vid~ I just bought a beer brewing kit and out of all the videos I found on YouTube, this is the video that I'm gonna follow :) Hoping that I'll brew a good beer!
@Zimmerscope I brewed a light ale, and the beer has turned out to be great in taste :) It feels so good to drink your own brewed beer! Your video was of great help. Thanks! :)

I'm about to start a hard cider brew now but wanted to see if I could start a beer brew after I do this one, just so I dont waste the gear I just bought. That looks like fun. Good job
I'm not sure where in the video I'm trying too hard, nor why that would be a bad thing even if I were.
Converse to what you suggest, I believe sharing my hobby with my son is a good way to spend time together. It also shows him that beer isn't that big of a deal - it's just something grown-ups like to enjoy every once in a while. Instead of wondering what the mystery is, he sees that there is no such mystery & grows up with a better view of alcohol.
Woah, man relax.... Theres nothing wrong with sharing a hobbie with you son, this is a good father son activity. I'm 16 and I love to help my dad brew his beer. You become an alchololic by drinking crap beer. And home brewed beer is absolutly divine. =] I'd like to work in a brewery when I'm of age. Theres nothing wrong with that...
@iridecustom Yeah im about to go to school to brew for either for miller or adams. You have to do a internship that some times don't pay i hope i get one that does.
