  • lmfao @ 'use one of your stockings, or one of your wifes'

  • great video....im a first timer to all this and your video has me excited and confident

  • Great learning and funny too ...

  • this cracks me up!! thanks! we made sure to do the weird hand ritual when we brewed. :o)

  • Awesome!

  • At what point does the beer get carbonated? and how can you ensure that it is?

  • Loved the average kinetic energy line. My p-chem instructor would have approved.

  • hops are not a fermentable

  • Did you ever get baned from brewing beer on the kitchen sink?

  • I was always under the impression that dish soap was bad to use when cleaning the bottles. I liked your video though. Pretty entertaining.

    .

  • Daughters bake with mommy. Sons brew beer with daddy! Both make things that give people round guts. lol

  • I love the video. What your son does all of the work and he doesn't get any!?! lol

  • Great video, except the guy wearing an Obama shirt. Barf!

  • Haha that was great. Very informational, but not boring. You kid is adorable.

  • Great video! I've been procrastinating doing my first batch for a few months... You've awesome video inspired me to finally just DO IT!

  • how much of a fag r u

  • @shotin12

Sorry, I'm not sure what "fagru" is.

  • So I got everything to star brewing, except a kid. any ideas for an alternative?

  • @CheeseCakeee

You should be able to find a kid pretty easily, especially since supply exceeds demand. However, if you rally can't find a kid anywhere, just get a robot.

  • good video, helps a lot

  • "allow your child to do some weird hand ritual over the sink" ....hahaha..i love the little random comments throughout the video.nice dry sense of humor

  • thanks a ton man. wish i could send you a bottle of our first batch :D

  • @RaymondLittleJr

You're welcome! Yeah, the postal service isn't too keen on sending alcohol via the mail. Thanks for the thought, though.

  • hi zimmerscope.. just wanted to say thanks for making this video. I've been brewing now for about a year.. and many batches later I owe a lot to you for giving me the balls to get started.

  • @firechill

Thanks, Firechill. Hope it's working good for you.

  • How much grain is needed for a batch like this? Is it like 25 litres?

Would be awesome if you could like send me the recepie for this, whith volumes of the things included :D

  • nice methord. but i rather to use a 25 ltr fermenter and buy a kit malt eg. coppers draught and keg it rather them washing all then bottles much much easier!!

  • I really want to brew beer now! Only brewed mead so far. Going for a hefeweizen!

  • I was hooked on the video until the end when I saw a guy wearing an obama t-shirt! LOL!!

  • oh god i can smell your breath throught this dam video

  • awesome video man this was a lot of help...i just ordered my 1st kit and everything a few days ago and cant wait to get started

  • @FrankTheTank1627

Thanks! Hope your brew turns out great!

  • @Zimmerscope

ill def let you know how it goes

  • @Zimmerscope Have you tried any gluten free beer brewing?. I made banana honey millet beer, it tastes great, and has the same alcohol content if not more! ,and its way easier to digest .

  • @5tonyvvvv

I've never tried gluten-free. Thanks for the suggestion. Sounds appealing. I will look for it next time I'm at the brew store.

  • Great vid. I've been wanting to do this for a while and I think now's the time. One problem though, I don't have a kid to help me. Is it okay to use someone else's kid and are you supposed to let the parents know first? What if the parents say no? Is it okay to use them anyway? Some people can be real jerks you know. Sorry for the questions, I'm new at this.

  • That's the best tutorial I've seen. Good job. I'm go grab my son and make some beer. Who knows I mite run it through the still and make shine jk. No not really. Thanks for the vid.

  • i was not trying to offend you! I think the video was great. You just left out a couple of important things.

  • Your voice sounds exactly like Squidward from SpongeBob haha.

  • NICE! Most funny brew vid EVER!!!!

  • nice I think this is the best home brew vid. the kid is so cute hahahaha the weird hand ritual was awesome.

  • nice video

  • love the vid. love that your boy is already a brewers assistant. thanx for making it a fun video to watch.

  • get a child to assist you lol

  • whered u get that sticker on ur carboy?

  • @ageranger03

At a chemistry seminar I attended through my place of employment. There were vendor booths set up in the main hall, and I think the sticker came from lab supplier VWR.

  • very instructional and funny video. thanks a bunch! i can't wait to start my first batch!

  • Great job, thank you for posting this video. It has really helped a lot. I am starting my first brew today. Im tackling an English Brown Ale. We'll see how it goes.

  • @jdavis8124

    Thanks. And good luck!

  • Ummm, cool video, but wow lots of mistakes here. You made it look easy to people who wouldn't know any better, but you are going to have contaminated beer with the way you did that. Also, beer is suppose to be served in a glass. ALL BEER, but especially home brew. There will be sediment at the bottom and each time you swig that bottle back you will be stirring up that sediment and drinking it. If you pour it in a glass not only will you avoid that sediment but you will have a better beer.

  • @Eaglerick23

Yes, the point of the video is to show that brewing IS easy.

The video notes a sanitizing agent is needed for making beer and shows how to prepare a solution for sanitizing. It also shows to sanitize all materials that come into contact with the wort.

Yes, beer is better in a glass, but drinking it out of a bottle is not a "mistake." The beer was being served at a friend's home, and so I didn't wish to create dishes. Also, there was no sediment, so that was not a problem.

  • @Eaglerick23 your right and by they way it is not going to carbonate without any priming sugar!!

  • @1982azt

...Which is why the video shows to add priming sugar (see @ ~5:50).

  • @Eaglerick23 Well, what's a little sediment between friends rofl? Besides, the brewer pour HIS into a glass, the rest of his "friends" got that evil sediment filled bottle.

  • Very well done good sir. Having kids help make beer is hilarious!

  • Hahaha, that's pretty cool. It looks interesting and not that hard.

  • this is an excellent video

  • is it ok to stir the wort when cooling with an ice bath.or should you just let it sit?

  • @jmohno i stir my wort in an ice bath and it works very very well... usually my wort is 1.5 gallons and i pre-boil 1.5 gallons of water (to sterilize the water) and freeze it in ziplock bags. Then pour my wort into another sanitized container with the ice.. it cools it down very very fast.

  • would anyone explain what the malt is for? i thought the only things in beer were yeast hops and barley.

    very cool vid!

  • Man, I had to search through a ton of videos before I found yours. Finally! Straight forward, entertaining, and useful. Well done, sir.

  • That was actually very enjoyable and funny. Thanks

  • what causes the fermentation for the alcohol? and how is this different from fermenting foods?

  • Don't ever use distilled water, doesn't have enough minerals needed for a good beer. Were those grains soaked long enough? Mine always stay in for a good 30 min. Also I didn't realize hops were fermentable. I will call you crazy for liking the smell of yeast, how do you not say you love the smell of hops instead? Looked like you left no room for carbonation in that bomber bottle, should be an inch of empty neck or else you could have some beer grenades there. AREN'T I CRITICAL?

  • @fatsachs how bout adding trace minerals to distilled water?now you can use distilled water.how would you know how clean that spring water is.as far as i can remember carbon filters filter out minerals as well.so isnt store bought spring water filtered anyway? or am i wrong? about to brew but distilled would have to be the purest water.any suggestions?

  • @jmohno You can just call the company's 1-800 number and get a water report that'll tell you the mineral content of the spring water. Sure they're filtered but that doesn't remove all the natural minerals within it, typically there's plenty left in there to produce a good beer. Or, you can do all that with the distilled water if you want I suppose. I've never had an issue with spring water myself and I know many long time brewers who won't use anything else.

  • and the beer is fully carbonated itself?

from what I gather all I really need is a carboy, fermentation stopper, bottles and the ingredients? why do people say materials are so expensive?

  • @ajmcdavis 5 gallon Carboy $30, (I don't know what the hell a fermentation stopper is so $0), Ale pail $10-$15, Auto syphon $12, freezing-boiling thermometer $10, large stock pot $10, beer kit $30-$50, hydrometer $7-$10, bottling wand $5, stopper and airlock $3, bottles (free if you save your own, pricey if you buy them) and sanitizer $5. Cost is anywhere from $150 - $180 to get started.

  • as silly as this sounds thank you for the sarcasm it made it make more sense

  • I find this video very amusing and very funny, the video is very long and it makes it more fun to watch!

    Great job!

  • LOVR UR ASSISTANT

  • you really should do secondary fermentation,,your beer must be very cloudy.

  • @voltrabbit7

    Thanks, and good luck!

  • Excellent vid....made for a good laugh, loved your approach!!!

  • it's also funny when your son is asking about why you are putting the siphon into the beer and you ignore him lol. btw, i'm probably going to follow this video. it is done real professionally with some good tips.

  • Zimmer, I am interested in brewing my own beer and was wondering where you got your equipment.... did you get that from northern brewer as well?

  • @firechill

Yes, everything in the video directly related to the beer - equipment, ingredients, sugar, the bottles - was purchased at Northern Brewer in the Twin Cities, MN. Good luck!

  • That kid is the brew master...right?

  • Great vid~ I just bought a beer brewing kit and out of all the videos I found on YouTube, this is the video that I'm gonna follow :) Hoping that I'll brew a good beer!

  • @jatinvm

Hey, thanks for the compliment! Best of luck to you in your brew.

  • @Zimmerscope I brewed a light ale, and the beer has turned out to be great in taste :) It feels so good to drink your own brewed beer! Your video was of great help. Thanks! :)

  • Great vid man!!

  • Allow your child to make a hand ritual over the sink hahahahhahaha!!!!!

  • Wow this is really a good video!!

    What is the kit's name?

And does the bear get clear by itself? doesnt it need some clearing liquid like wine does?

  • @ostmash

The kit, from Northern Brewer in St. Paul, MN, was called "Biere de Garde." The beer's clarity came naturally...no clarifying agents used.

    Glad you liked the video.

  • this is probably one of the best brew vids ive seen, straight forward, and to the point...and kinda funny. good job

  • @nikifresh

Thanks so much. Appreciate the compliment.

  • DAMMIT DAMMIT DAMMMIT! I forgot the hand ritual...

  • @nodogyougay48

Yeah, that's pretty key. You really need to remember that next time.

  • Great video! thanks!

  • Ive been thinking about starting to brew my own beer but haven't had the guts to do so. Your video just gave me the guts to go along with it so tomorrow I'm going to run out and get my first beer kit. Thanks again!

  • @whatstcp

Cool! We need more beer brewers in the world. Go for it!

  • Lol I am not old enough to drink this yet but I can't wait till I am older and follow your instructions =D

  • I liked this video alot! I need to get me on of those selfs.. i mean kids as well as some new equipment. Think my next beer is going to be a porter.

  • Awesome video!!

  • tats an amazing video

    :)

  • great video, you give great, clear direction into the brewing process.

  • @bayne81

    Thanks, glad you liked it.

  • Yeah, it's great to include the kids in projects like this. Gives us time to be together, and we accomplish something worthwhile.

  • great vid!

  • I love that you included your son. Mine's only 8 months, but I can't wait untill he's old enough to learn to brew, and make cheese, and make chocolate etc. Great Man!

  • Not sharing a hobby/art/craft/science with the younger generaion.... is like begging for it to go extinct. It's just like sweet tea until it starts to ferment anyway. Teach your children well!

  • Nice video, man. This is Chip from the Boiler newsletter. Don't listen to some of these haters... and keep brewing! Represent Twin Cities!

  • @texabamabrackish

Thanks for the support! Here at my home, we do NOT want beer brewing to go extinct!

  • yes, from all the blurps it causes, LOL

  • haha..hilarious!..thanks for the advice.

  • Like I said man... relax.. And you might as well not send back any hateful comments. Because I'm not about to start a fight with an imature little man.

  • My last comment was directed towards xxT4C0xx

  • I'm about to start a hard cider brew now but wanted to see if I could start a beer brew after I do this one, just so I dont waste the gear I just bought. That looks like fun. Good job

  • the kid is cute...

  • he did it yeah!

  • hes not teaching his child to be a alcoholic. His child could do this when he is older and make a new brand and become a milonare

  • im going to shorten all of my thought down to "oh wow" i will leave that to your interpretation.

  • I'm not sure where in the video I'm trying too hard, nor why that would be a bad thing even if I were.

Converse to what you suggest, I believe sharing my hobby with my son is a good way to spend time together. It also shows him that beer isn't that big of a deal - it's just something grown-ups like to enjoy every once in a while. Instead of wondering what the mystery is, he sees that there is no such mystery & grows up with a better view of alcohol.

Future abusive comments will be deleted.

  • Woah, man relax.... Theres nothing wrong with sharing a hobbie with you son, this is a good father son activity. I'm 16 and I love to help my dad brew his beer. You become an alchololic by drinking crap beer. And home brewed beer is absolutly divine. =] I'd like to work in a brewery when I'm of age. Theres nothing wrong with that...

  • @iridecustom Yeah im about to go to school to brew for either for miller or adams. You have to do a internship that some times don't pay i hope i get one that does.

  • Excellent production! You make it look easy, one day I'll quit threatening to brew and actually do it. :)

  • Thanks. It's a big step (moving from threats to actions), but you'll be happy you did it.

  • This video has singlehandedly made me want to pick this up as a hobby, thank you for the clear instructions!

  • Hey, thanks for the high praise! Yes, it's a fun hobby - go for it!

  • Very nice video and commentary!

  • HAHA!!! Your kid is awesome!

  • why washis on helping?

  • So did people like it? What did it taste like?

  • As you can see from the final 30 seconds of the filmlet, people did like it (They were hamming it up a bit for the camera, but they did indeed enjoy it). As for the taste, it was a medium-bodied paler brew; akin to Bitburger.

  • interesting,i should make a how to make wine video, wine season just started

  • lol its funny your kid was helping the whole time

  • Great video :)

  • In some places, yes. But not in the Great State of Minnesota.

  • not in most places. in a couple of states i think you cant brew or distill any alcohol. but in england and most of america you can brew beer and cider.

  • but is the beer nice?

  • that was a really good video, nice job

  • Aww your kid is funny.

    Great video!

  • cool
