I love Lhasa Apsos. I had one, his fur was all black, but due to a lot of work, my uncle took over, he had time since he was retired with pension. That dog was so spoiled, lol. We all loved him so much. My uncle felt on the ice ended up in hospital when the dog was 16 years old. The dog got so sick, very ill, i personally think he would live longer if this did not happen to his owner. My uncle had no choice than to put him to sleep. That was the most horrible day ever. Miss you Amigo.

My family bought a lhasa apso puppy, the guy who sold my little guy said he was a shih tzu. But we later found out that they lied, I can see how they are easily mistaken. When he turned 1 and a half he was twice the size of my friend's shih tzu. My lhaso is such a laxed dog and he's so social. Compared to the maltese we have and other shih tzu he's so smart. He's such a well behaved dog and I personally think that he has a cuter face than some bug eyed shihtzus. =] Everyone should get one.

Mine is really loving and friendly, he doesnʻt bite at all. The only time heʻs aggressive is when I try to steal treats but then again Iʻm sure any dog wouldnʻt be happy about that.

Aww. They look surprisingly a lot like the shih tzu. When I first heard of the Lhasa Apso I thought they were big dogs...but they're tiny little things! =D
The Shih Tzu came from the Lhasa and the malttees in japan. that is why they have more health problems then the Lhasas i've got 2 now and had one when i was a kid they make great dogs for kids!!!
@iiUseanM4 No she was dying from kidney failure,she had heart trouble and she had gone blind so we had to help her die to put her out of the agony. She was 16 but she never ever bit anyone in her whole life. She was extremely timid and never even barked. She had a beautiful personality. It's still very emotional to think about her. She's only dead a month :'(
=,( that is sad. i would be devastated beyond emotional repair if my lil lhasa died. But he is going to die at some point and i cannot seem to fully understand that he is going to die.

If you have a lhasa apso that does its mistake in the house, don't hit it. If your lhasa will start being aggressive. Whenever it sees a hand coming towards it, they think you will hit them, so they will defend themselves by biting. Use positive reinforcement with these dogs. ps NEVER PUT TREATS IN A LHASAS BOWL AND PET THEM. i learned it the hard way...
Just a fyi you can still correct them by swatting them but you have to be gental! Ive raised 3 Lhasas and all of them have been swatted when they got in trouble. but yes some of them will take a defencive posture with you!
oh yes they are seriously hostile. If they are not feeling good, they become angry and irritable. I was just lying on my couch and the puppy was on the arm of the couch all of a sudden he bites my finger...had to get a few stitches!
My lhasa Ragz has been with me since she was 3 months old and she's my furry child and best friend. Now, she's not only protective of me but also of my unborn child! She loves it when he kicks, slapping my tummy and waiting for him to kick her back. It's hilarious and heart warming.
I have a three months old La Pom (Lhasa Apso + Pomeranian = La Pom). She is very intelligent. Sit, shake paw and lay down on command. Got puppy pad trained when she was barely two months. Lhasa Apso are very intelligent.
I have a lhasa apso and my boyfriend had a shih tzu (passed away). The main differences I noticed were mainly in the face, shih tzu's seem to have shorter noses and generally a rounder head. Both extremely cute but I tend to prefer lhasa's because they have longer noses.
1) Paws on the puppies. Lhasa puppies have larger paws than tzu's;
2) Eyes: Tzu's eyes are larger and rounder. Lhasa's eyes are a little smaller and almond shape;
3) Tzu's have a round, dome shape head whereas the lhasa's head is terrier like (a little flat on top with a pointier nose.)
4) Nose is higher on a Shih Tzu whereas a Lhasa's nose is located lower than the eyes. Snout is also extended more on a lhasa than a tzu's nose which is aligned with they eyes.
ijust got a lil lhasa apso after my old one passed on....... :( i was so sad and his name was cujo so we named this lil baby cujo junior he is so adorable
Sorry but vicious adults if you spoil them, what planet are you from, i`ve got 2 and yes of course they are spoilt and totally and utterly freindly. Neither of them has a bad bone in there body.

@ohfiddlessticks Lhasa's are regarded as smarter than the Shih Tzu by the Stanley Coren criteria.
I too have found this personally to be the case although both Oriental breeds have their own unique charms.

mine has a serious attitude too. It is just the lhasa breed i suppose. they are guardian dogs originating from tibet. Given as gifts to royalty.

they are friendly if they know/trust you...if they do not recognize you they sometimes become very hostile when at a younger age.

Lhasa apsos do not grow very big at all. once they are three years old (human years) they pretty much stop growing
