i was sad when i saw you mix it all together:( a caramel macchiato is designed to be drank without mixing it.. it's sort of fun like that.. think about it.. you sip the espresso off the top.. and then chase it all down with this amazing dreamy creamy ice cold carmel ridden glass of milk!! when i order mine i get it like this: Iced Quad Venti Whole Milk Extra Caramel Macchiato!! I make it completely different...here's what I do:

Get your cup out (FYI the "cold cup to go" that Starbucks make are perfect!), put ice in it...I usually fill the cup half-way with ice. Then put 3-5 pumps of vanilla syrup, depending on how sweet you want it. Then pour milk in the cup and fill it, leaving just about 2-3 inches room. Then pour 3 shots of espresso...3 shots is what Starbucks uses an it gives the perfect balance between espresso and sweetness. Than finally drizzle carmel over top!

btw, Caramel macchiato Does NOT mean caramel on top. Macchiato means to mark the foam, as in a hot one, the shots mark the foam.

There is no caramel "flavoring" in the main portion of a caramel macchiato, only syrup on top, which is part of why it is not a caramel/vanilla latte. YOu made a caramel vanilla latte, a very sweet one at that (another distictive part of a cm is that it starts less sweet)

Not sure why this comment got a thumbs down.... she wasn't attacking at all... It really is supposed to be layered. Not too many people know that macchiato means "stained" or "marked" in Italian. The idea is to pour the milk in slowly so it doesn't reach the bottom of the glass. That's where you get the layering. It is always up to personal preference. I do believe that Starbucks serves it stirred completely so since she is trying to imitate Starbucks' version, she's right on the money.

I always get a venti iced coffee, which is SUPER easy. I make a pot and a half of (extra strong, or it tastes watery when chilled) coffee, put it in a tea pitcher, add 3/4 cups sugar and stick it in the fridge. Once it's chilled all you have to do is pour it in a glass, fill it with half and half and ice, and you're good to go.

...I drink it way too often that's why I make pitchers at a time haha. Saves me serious dough.

OR you could put a freezer safe glass with your sweetened just-made coffee in to the freezer, and it takes about an hour to get good and cold, and drink it that way. If you use splenda you can sweeten it after it's cold. Good stuff. LOVES IT.

I love those Torani syrups! You can actually get them cheaper at Smart and Final stores in the valley. They have the sugar free ones and lots of flavors. I even bought the pumps to use on the bottles and measure by squirts now. Smart and Final sells those too.

You can also buy espresso beans (a deeper roast compared to regular coffee) and brew espresso in your coffee maker. Whatever floats your boat. :)

Yeah I'm pretty sure you can just make regular coffee, but in order to get it as strong as espresso you should double the amount of coffee. Like if it says one teaspoon for a cup of coffee, use two teaspoons.

hey leesha! thanks, ive tried this and its DELICIOUS! i am not sure if all starbucks do this but i live in miami and all the starbucks here sell their vanilla syrup and the caramel topping to the public, alot of people don't know this but all you have to do is ask. i also use their espresso roast coffee for the macchiatos. anyone who wants to closest starbucks taste, that is the key. its awesome hot or cold!

And no you HAVEN'T seen it made like this at your starbucks, becasue then it wouldn't be a charamel macchiato...unless someone specifically asked for it like that it wouldn't be made that way.
