  • right a prize of a mars bar, who can be the first to work out what she's typing ;)

  • Who can resist a chuckle of nostalgia as Good Old Footie appears:}

  • Want to go back to 1981!! I was 9 years old - If I had one wish this would be it

  • Reminds me off being sick off school as a child ;)

  • good to see so many people on here who were kids in early 80s. Remember those green typing hands like it was yesterday!

  • According to Wikipedia this is from sometime in September 1981.

  • scary green hands..the incredible hulk can type, classic theme tune..anyone know exactly what year this theme run was used until ?.

  • @deathtoleftys Idiot

  • bbn 24

  • roy west

  • look at the backscene - typewriters! who remembers them?

  • This always reminds me of when I was a little boy staying at my granddads board to death as he so much loved his news

  • I've just sat down with a tomato and crouton cup-a-soup, a mug of hot chocolate and 4 ryvitas with butter and marmite, sets me up before I go back to School.

  • Good God nearly 20000 views I would not expect this short video to attract such interest here thanks for the comments guys much appreciated.:)

  • There were some great tv intros in those days, better than now, weekend world, world in action, and more recently the london programme and many more.

Does anyone remember Help, after the news at 5:45 ?

  • they dont make news programmes in this format now

  • Sometimes hard to remember peter sissons used to be at ITN....he's not long retired after a very long time with the BBC

  • It kinda reminded me of the BBC Six O'clock News theme from the 80s

  • relaxation music

  • That brings back memories even tho I've not seen it for god knows how many years!

  • Newer news: Labour's lax morality has helped standards crash through the floor. Just look around you.

But people are truly waking up, not with just a little help from the Web.

Click my username or paste title into bar: THINGS CAN ONLY GET LABOUR - WHY THE 'PC' QUISLINGS WILL LOSE THE NEXT ELECTION (SPEECH)

  • Heh I remember this scary music and the scary green hands ;)

  • Good memories of watching this, because it usually meant you were off school.

  • That is so right. Nice one.

  • First Report was the name of a TV-am news programme that ran before Good Morning Britain from 6 till 7 in the early 90s.

  • No, that was called Daybreak in the early 1980s. First Report was the name of News At One before all of ITNs news shows all became branded like "News At Ten"

  • It doesn't really fit as the last bars of music were beautifully synchronised with the "typist" knocking out the orginal title of the news which was "First Report" before ITN rebranded all their weekday bulletins to be called "news at...whatever time it was".

But nobody remember's it being called FIRST REPORT except me..! But maybe that's becuase I'm terrible old. :-(

  • i remember first report,it was presented by robert key.

  • but what about those six week school holidays we used to have

  • Ken Elliott in fine form.

  • News at One's theme always make u feel happy as soon u get in more welcoming that what BBC would do. Peter Sissons & Leonard Parkin would always make a point welcoming younger viewer. I always remember my gran would not allow anyone to talk when it was on LOL

  • Form my parliamentary knowledge, I'd say this is from September of 1981.

  • The ITN Logo scared the shit out of me as a kid period!

  • WOW!!!!!!

The green hands typing! I had forgotten all about this. God this takes me back.

  • The hulk wasn't a bad typist..... just kidding....I remember these titles well Robert Kee used to be a presenter as too.

  • ..and when that show ends, flip over to BBC1 to catch Bric-A-Brac and Mr. Benn (if you're well enough to get to the TV, that is ; P).

  • Oh my GOD!!!! Bloody hell - I haven't seen this for over 25 years! Maybe more! Crown Court and The News at 1 meant just one thing: That you were ill and couldn't go to school that day. I'm still in shock. Where have the years gone ??????????

  • Or it meant that you bunked off school with your mates. You naughty boy!!!!

  • @ah1701 or NOT ill ; know what i mean ?? Youre bloody right and its been a year since you wrote your comment already !!!!

  • @ah1701 Don't forget Chorlton and the wheelies, Jamie and his magic torch, Pebble Mill at one and the Monday matinee.

  • Fast-paced intros. That's the kind I love.

  • I always loved this opening sequence, the typing of the telex, the electric organ-like music, various (lousy) faces appearing around the screen. Good to see and hear it again.

  • It was composed by Ken Elliott (Second Hand, Seventh Wave). Very distinctive style I think.

  • i wish they would go back to the old retro style the intros were fantastic bring back the glory tunes

  • i agree - the theme tunes were much more rousing and the grpahics simpler and more direct. The news at ten used to scare the shit out of me!

  • I remember they changed the opening titles in 1983 and gave News At One a new CGI look (very impressive for the early 80s!), although Peter Sissons and Leonard Parkin remained the main hosts

  • Poor old Michael Foot looked like he was going to pass out (maybe he'd been savaged by a blue bitch at the time).

  • I'll always remember this wiseguy at school called Anthony McGough always whistling this little tune. I'll always remember News at One by it's previous name - First Report.

  • Peter Sissonshands.

  • Oh my god I remember this. I used to love this theme when I came back from school everyday. Best ITN theme ever

  • Even all these years later, hearing this music makes me 'damn, time to go back to school'

  • Typically thefirst story was always about Mrs Thatcher.LOL
