I've just sat down with a tomato and crouton cup-a-soup, a mug of hot chocolate and 4 ryvitas with butter and marmite, sets me up before I go back to School.
No, that was called Daybreak in the early 1980s. First Report was the name of News At One before all of ITNs news shows all became branded like "News At Ten"
It doesn't really fit as the last bars of music were beautifully synchronised with the "typist" knocking out the orginal title of the news which was "First Report" before ITN rebranded all their weekday bulletins to be called "news at...whatever time it was".
But nobody remember's it being called FIRST REPORT except me..! But maybe that's becuase I'm terrible old. :-(
News at One's theme always make u feel happy as soon u get in more welcoming that what BBC would do. Peter Sissons & Leonard Parkin would always make a point welcoming younger viewer. I always remember my gran would not allow anyone to talk when it was on LOL
Oh my GOD!!!! Bloody hell - I haven't seen this for over 25 years! Maybe more! Crown Court and The News at 1 meant just one thing: That you were ill and couldn't go to school that day. I'm still in shock. Where have the years gone ??????????
I always loved this opening sequence, the typing of the telex, the electric organ-like music, various (lousy) faces appearing around the screen. Good to see and hear it again.
I remember they changed the opening titles in 1983 and gave News At One a new CGI look (very impressive for the early 80s!), although Peter Sissons and Leonard Parkin remained the main hosts
I'll always remember this wiseguy at school called Anthony McGough always whistling this little tune. I'll always remember News at One by it's previous name - First Report.
right a prize of a mars bar, who can be the first to work out what she's typing ;)

There were some great tv intros in those days, better than now, weekend world, world in action, and more recently the london programme and many more.
Does anyone remember Help, after the news at 5:45 ?

Newer news: Labour's lax morality has helped standards crash through the floor. Just look around you.
But people are truly waking up, not with just a little help from the Web.

It was composed by Ken Elliott (Second Hand, Seventh Wave). Very distinctive style I think.

i wish they would go back to the old retro style the intros were fantastic bring back the glory tunes
thedj2471 3 years ago 15
i agree - the theme tunes were much more rousing and the grpahics simpler and more direct. The news at ten used to scare the shit out of me!
