AmeriProud67: Yes, that's true. I don't think the pmd661 accepts sd cards bigger than 2 gb. I've also had error problems with bigger cards. But with sd cards up to 2 gb the unit works great, so buy a couple of them (they are very cheap nowdays) and your're set to go for hours. //Gearlovers
Big problems with this. SD cards will often display a "UNFORMAT" message and act like it's working all day, but the card is trashed. Your whole day of shooting will be trash. Don't use an SD card over 2GB with this unit and if you ever get the "UNFORMAT" message, you are screwed.
Hi there, I am also a reporter, but my Marantz has a constant hiss in the backgrouund, I tried a few more mics, a Sure, etc.., but no doing. the hiss is still strong. Any suggestions?...
@Malaka57 Hmm, i don't recognize a constant hiss problem. Maybe your mic has a very low signal so the marantz gain has to be very high? What level is it? You shouldn't need to gain it more than 7 on the knob I think.
And have you tried the marantz with a condenser mic like the RODE NT2A or something that has a relatively high output level compared to a dynamic mic?
If it still produces unacceptable hiss than maybe the Oade mod is a solution. Google it.
ALINMOREA: As far as i know it is NOT possible to simultaneously record ext and int audio. You'll have to chose in the menu wich source you're gonna use before you record. Obviously you can use 2 extarnal mics at the same time but thats only exernal. /Gearlovers
@harrison4479 Yes, if you use two mics/sources in EXTERNAL MODE you'll get two separate tracks (L & R) if the marantz is set to stereo in the recordings menu.
I'm trying to guage the usefulness of the internal mics. There is noise in the sample in the video, but how much of that was in the ambience and how much of that was hiss added by the recorder?

Way too noisy, not suitable for dynamic mics without the Oade mod.

there's a more technical purpose for the XLR inputs not just for idiots to break or pull out the 8''
I would of hoped you'd know given your profession =^d
