In another comment. Saying "fuck" or "fucking" is bad, but it wasn't directed to anyone specifically, and she didn't shout it out loud or was disrespectful towards the chair umpire. You see players using that word all the time, and it's up to the umpire to judge how inappropriate that was at that moment.

I'm not sure if Camille hits the ball out right after she drops the ball, or the ball went inside. I'm assuming she hit the ball out, and if that is the case, Sharapova was right to complain (not to swear). If I'm not mistaken, the rule says that a player cannot hinder him/her self, meaning that the only player that could be considered hindered on that situation was Sharapova, and since the ball went straight out, she never got a chance to be hindered.

@kelvinpyaeko Oh no I don't think it was racism, thats the rule and it would have happened to any player. The umpire was completely right. I think the people who are going on her videos calling her classless and a ape are the ones being racist. I mean you have Caprioti and Agassi who did drugs and cussed up storms at umpires. But the Williams seem to be the only ones who people call classless and ghetto. I just don't get why they can never be forgiven. Venus is the more gracious woman on tour.

@AFCompany actually, yes, after that 09 incident, i went back to YT videos to search any similarly chaotic moment and i found those so called legends like mc enroe swearing the umpire (way more vicious that serena would say) and i didn't see any similarly harsh comment. so yeah, even though i don't want to pull this racist card, i am sure people unconsciously tend to belittle blacks a little bit more than whites.

I am not saying adults dont swear at all, I am saying go to a tennis country club, not a court in a ghetto, and see how many people swear. Just like doctors don't swear when they perform surgery or something like that. You just don't swear when you play. If you play tennis at a high level, you understand.

yes i have been to a tennis country club where ppl play FOR RECREATION and even then a competitive player would swear. i am sure doctors swear during a surgeries that is a terrible assumption that they dont. if a player plays tennis for their livelihood then theyd most certainly get more angry at their mistakes and swear. your arguement about a tennis country club and the pro tour is like comparing gold fish in a fish tank to a blue whale in an ocean and saying "they are both fish in water"

A whale is a mammal ;) At any high level or rec level tournament, listen to how many times people swear. Then go to high level tournament and listen to how many times people swear AT A REF. It's very rare. To see a pro do it is almost shocking. When Fed yells sh*t, the whole world stops, because of what is expected.

Officials shouldn't have to tolerate such attitudes and bad language. Players shld respect the decisions even if they don't like it. That's the rule. Appeal or complaint about the decision but don't take it out on the officials who are most likely volunteers .

This should not have been called a let. If the ball falls out of her skirt, that is her own problem and should not effect the play of the game. If one of the ball boys or something had lost track of a ball and it had rolled on the court- yes, let. I've been playing competitive tennis for a long time and I would have said a lot worse than Maria.

Actually no the umpire was perfectly correct to call the let. Players are allowed one "unintentional hindrance" like their hat falling off or the ball falling out. If it happens more than once they start taking points off.
