I fear that I will die with my last thought being 'I should have tried and I could have had happiness, and everything I wanted to share with the world is gone. There are so many people I wanted to make just smile once in a while...but that's all gone now. I lived alone and now I die alone'.
I will die crying myself to sleep over the fact that I never slept with this chicky. Hi - can I clone you? You don't have to like me....I just want a *little* bit of DNA....ok buh bye
The more you know, the more miserable you become, really. This happens until you start to reach certain awareness from the spiritual unintelligible, although I don't belive in god, but this awareness is not from reason once you get to it. It's something different I just cannot explain.
I have only one question. The more I become aware, the more I lose sanity. Ignorance is bliss, but should it really be that way? Or should the truth be told? Think about it, knowledge can make someone lose control and go crazy... :/
is it better to know or not know? by "better," i assume you mean "happier." i'll tell you what, if you're happier in deliberate ignorance, you're one poor sap. pick "knowledge," final answer
Ignorance is bliss, at least when it comes to getting things. Better not to know about them but hard in today's consumerist society unless you don't go anywhere and don't connect outside your home. It's insidious.
The more I know, the more I realize that we are headed for a totalitarian state ruled by private, financial interests. The more I know, the more I hate the insidious power of advertising to predict and control our behaviour, while leaving us with the illusion of freedom. The more I know, the more capable I am of distinguishing between being a good consumer and being a good citizen.
the more you know the more you realize that everything you could possibly want in this world is produced by means which are both to the detriment of the planet and at least one individual, and that individual, if existing in sigularity, is always going to be you, the consumer. (typo fix)
the more you know the more you realize that everything you could possibly want in this world is produced by means which are both to the detriment of the planet and at least one individual, and that individual is, if existing in sigularity, is always going to be you, the consumer.
Sounds a bit like... let's call it "spiritual consumerism". Why should I want more - become more greedy - when I know more? To me that sounds like you talk about the wrong kind of knowledge. Or - like the perception of a very young - and very American - person ;-). I think true knowledge puts things into perspective and results in a calm humility.
its human nature to always try and go the distance to step to the line and go over, how can you know that you tried? maybe when you die you change your mind or you never make up your mind therefor you never truly tried you tried to try but failed at even trying, now the question just is did you live a good life
The only things that I will reflect upon that I have aquired throughout my life, will be the relationships that I have built with people, that I call friends. I would die with the same comfort with a DVD player in my house as I would a VCR in it's stead. Aquiring things does not equate a well lived life. The pursuit of things only leads to the pursuit of more things, not to happiness.
What to want? More short term gizmos like in the half-life video? Knowledge? Wisdom? Serenity? I love the near-subliminal messaging, quite clever. And your final line - "I will die knowing I tried".
the real problem is when people try to stretch beyond thier means. take a look at the subprime lending situation we are seeing now. there is nothing wrong with striving for more success, but people should be mindful not to take too much, or they will almost always find themselves falling off of the ladder. a good thing about america is that you can usually dust yourself off and try again, and do it more wisely the second time.

it is called aspiration!! It is a drive to go and get what you want to climb the ladder of success. It is not about, "the more you know, the more aware of the things you want." Learning about it does not mean you are going to get it. It is about knowing what you want and going to get it and not letting anything stand in your way.
Last night in proverbs I read WISDOM begins with respect for the lord and UNDERSTANDING begins with knowing the Holy Spirit. That's the price of knowledge.
Function dictates the level of effort needed to succed at any given task. Not everyone is good at digging a hole. Not everyone can read music.I tried Heroin I tried real hard I was a success I also put that same effort into ridingmyself of something I didn't try for and that was addicition.Remember equal and opposite reactions and of course newtons law. This bullshit hallmark greeting card rational on subject matter too complex for a 60 sec clip is getting really fucking old.

There's a reason people state "ignorance is bliss." Knowing, and being aware, and self aware, can bode negatively on a person. Higher intelligence leads to more emotional problems. Simply due to the fact that most intelligent people don't use their emotions for many reasons. Unintelligent or, more appropriately, ignorant people [lacking knowledge] are less aware, and tend to be less aware of the negative impact emotions and thoughts and lack of emotions, can have on their everyday life.
That's not a bad point at all oobeenialln. Everybody who reads this should do a google search on William James Sidis.
We live in a world were the mean I.Q. is 100 by defintion, and since the world is set up to be run by average people the conclusion is you don't have to be very smart to succeed...
Just look at the current Presidential administration, and those persons, non-gratis, such as Colin Powell. Smart isn't necessarily an advantage-- as long as you are smart enough, which as it turns out isn't having to be very smart at all...
Finally, I would say the truest advantage to being intelligent, and to the Resident's point about knowledge, is that more intelligent one is the greater their capacity for relationship with life, itself. And in that sense I would loath any lessening of my mental faculty despite the burden the latter has sometimes been.
Love your stuff... but please try to not exaggerate each and every face expression you make while you speak... This will make you look ten times better... TIP ;)
These poor tribesmen in S. Amer or Africa don't know they're poor until some (well-intentioned) Westerner shows up and builds a school (for example) for a few.Suddenly, there is disparity. If no one has indoor plumbing, no one feels poor. The minute someone grants plumbing for one tribe, the others 'become' poor.
I think we don't have actually the freedom to choose ignoring nowadays. Surely it was possible many years ago when technology was not so developed. Perhaps the options would be: keep where you are and suffer... in that "middle point", half way between ignorance and knowledge, where you know all you miss, but you don't know what to do, what's worth, what's just an illusion. Or you can also move and fight to discover the answers. Success is not guaranteed but perseverance is always well rewarded.
I know you are right!!! I passed two days trying to make a special pizza but alas i failed,at least i gave it a shot!!!and if you think its funny:TRY!(nothing demands more effort than simple things in life if you remember the pursuit of happiness)
I used to say that I'd die happy knowing I lived a good life and always helped people in trouble. Then I came very close to dieing.I can remember in the moments before I blacked out. Sheding all my leather skin and just being scared like hell of death. Cause you never know until you die. Maybe there isn't anything in death, only oblivion. Ha Ha. And what a bummer man. God I hope there is a God, but if there is he's got one hell of a strange sense of humor.
first, there are many different kinds of insights - ranging from depressing to exhilarating. generally, the more basal your knowledge, the happier you are.
second, the path to enlightenment crosses a valley of nihilism. it's necessary to get rid of false axioms.
third, with knowledge comes a sense of responsibility. taking action alleviates the pressure.
I disagree that the path to enlightenment crosses a valley of nihilism. Crossing the valley of nihilism leads to jail (the other side) unless one has money or connections. (At least my idea of nihilism). But, hey maybe you know something i dont...
Trying your hardest is the best decision. Ignorance would be better if you look for contentment but as you learn, you'd be less content than someone who tried. The person who tried and failed achieved, has knowledge of how to achieve the goal and could relate it to others. Ignorance would be a waste of time (you'd learn nothing, you'd achieve nothing, and your contentment would be short-lived). Ignorance only works for those who are truly ignorant.
ya thats what we can ultimately hope for towards the end, knowing that we gave it our all I suppose
hey, also wante to let you know, you can give a URL link to your site in the description so it's a link for folks to click on, you know, a URL..also, love the new banner & icon, very cool. keep up the good work
Another evocative little Rez-o-gram ... THAT you try is important, but WHAT you're trying is essential: Hitler could've made the same claim this video ends on, & sadly he was a dramatic success far too many times when he should've been wiped out.
The apathy-action/gnosis-ignorance dilemma is a huge vector for anomie & rage-ism ... & so is the box I used to type in this comment.
..Because..you will die knowing you tried. However, the point you lead up with is that the people that know less still think they tried - because they don't know more was out there. So the conclusion "I at least will know I tried", belongs to another line or argument (such as is it better to try and fail or not have tried at all).
Haha, jome! I like that everyone has their own spin on the piece. I stand by my line of thinking on this one for sure but I like the fact that everyone sees the issue a little differently. I like hearing other people's thoughts about it for sure.
Everyone is entitled to their own spin Lori, I agree. Just some get a tad bitter about it!
On the more you know theme, its also the case that the more you know/feel/experience, the more you know and understand what you really 'need', the more you understand and appreciate what is really 'important' and valuable? And some of it can be quite humble in nature?
Yeah, but if you try and fail then you will always look back and say "I could have been drunk and high instead of wasting my time trying", I guess it's all relative
It's all relative until you realize what a piece of garbage world you live in, when you travel to a slum in your own country and see women and children barely surviving the economical divide that sets them apart from people like george bush. And everyone talks about how stupid startrek is, when all startrek ever did was suggest that we could live better lives if we worked together. I think her next video should be 'what would unite everyone globally'.
Knowing more makes me happy. Knowledge can be used for harmful purposes however, and knowledge has continuously proved itself to be much of a detrimental effect on society, but that's slightly offtopic. (I wrote about this on my SAT essay. I got an 8 though, only because I didn't finish it but it was SUCH A PULITZER I BET YOU I WOULD'VE GOTTEN A FREAKING PERFECT SCORE IF I HAD FINISHED IT!!!!!!)
We should begin with the premise that anything is possible to the person who tries and gives it every effort. A life of success & accomplishment would reinforce this idea in the individual.
"The more that is out there" is merely a figment of the ego and the imagination and should, as such, have no bearing on a persons happiness and well being.
Thus to a person of achievement, the knowledge that one has the capacity and character to achieve the next or latest 'thing' is far more important than actually getting it. Personal freedom is the net result...
Interesting question wpiman! Not really what I meant about knowing stuff - secrets I mean. I'd have to say I'm not really interested in knowing other people's secrets. :)
Right, I gotcha. Your example was a bit of a secret but I totally get the point. And that's the question I'm posing, really - so thanks for writing in!
Kant never left his home town. Blocking someone for using the word "materialistic" means that other adjectives apply. Has anyone been blocked for one of the "hot babe" comments? You think about it. Don't worry, I can find the door.
Hey geo, I've never blocked anyone for using the word "materialistic" - only for using very bad words, haha. I encourage people to debate - though character assasinations aren't a debate...
Simply not true. You blocked Spawndonacle for stating that this video sounded materialistic -- which it does to me -- and for suggesting that you really did not know how you would feel at life's end. I know many Nobel Laureates and, as a whole, their needs are quite simple. Murray Gell-Man would be an outlier.

it is called aspiration!! It is a drive to go and get what you want to climb the ladder of success. It is not about, "the more you know, the more aware of the things you want." Learning about it does not mean you are going to get it. It is about knowing what you want and going to get it and not letting anything stand in your way.

We live in a world were the mean I.Q. is 100 by defintion, and since the world is set up to be run by average people the conclusion is you don't have to be very smart to succeed...
TexasRounder 4 years ago
Just look at the current Presidential administration, and those persons, non-gratis, such as Colin Powell. Smart isn't necessarily an advantage-- as long as you are smart enough, which as it turns out isn't having to be very smart at all...
TexasRounder 4 years ago
Finally, I would say the truest advantage to being intelligent, and to the Resident's point about knowledge, is that more intelligent one is the greater their capacity for relationship with life, itself. And in that sense I would loath any lessening of my mental faculty despite the burden the latter has sometimes been.

These poor tribesmen in S. Amer or Africa don't know they're poor until some (well-intentioned) Westerner shows up and builds a school (for example) for a few.Suddenly, there is disparity. If no one has indoor plumbing, no one feels poor. The minute someone grants plumbing for one tribe, the others 'become' poor.
edbrown100 4 years ago
I think we don't have actually the freedom to choose ignoring nowadays. Surely it was possible many years ago when technology was not so developed. Perhaps the options would be: keep where you are and suffer... in that "middle point", half way between ignorance and knowledge, where you know all you miss, but you don't know what to do, what's worth, what's just an illusion. Or you can also move and fight to discover the answers. Success is not guaranteed but perseverance is always well rewarded.

We are not that far (50-100 years?) to immortality, getting old is a process that can be stoped, and one day we will find the key.

3 thoughts:
first, there are many different kinds of insights - ranging from depressing to exhilarating. generally, the more basal your knowledge, the happier you are.
second, the path to enlightenment crosses a valley of nihilism. it's necessary to get rid of false axioms.
third, with knowledge comes a sense of responsibility. taking action alleviates the pressure.
my 2 cents :)

I disagree that the path to enlightenment crosses a valley of nihilism. Crossing the valley of nihilism leads to jail (the other side) unless one has money or connections. (At least my idea of nihilism). But, hey maybe you know something i dont...

Ignorance is easier...

MutantDealer 4 years ago
???
Another evocative little Rez-o-gram ... THAT you try is important, but WHAT you're trying is essential: Hitler could've made the same claim this video ends on, & sadly he was a dramatic success far too many times when he should've been wiped out.
The apathy-action/gnosis-ignorance dilemma is a huge vector for anomie & rage-ism ... & so is the box I used to type in this comment.
jamesmorgandavies 4 years ago
..Because..you will die knowing you tried. However, the point you lead up with is that the people that know less still think they tried - because they don't know more was out there. So the conclusion "I at least will know I tried", belongs to another line or argument (such as is it better to try and fail or not have tried at all).

Jome27 4 years ago
Haha, jome! I like that everyone has their own spin on the piece. I stand by my line of thinking on this one for sure but I like the fact that everyone sees the issue a little differently. I like hearing other people's thoughts about it for sure.
theresident 4 years ago
Everyone is entitled to their own spin Lori, I agree. Just some get a tad bitter about it!
On the more you know theme, its also the case that the more you know/feel/experience, the more you know and understand what you really 'need', the more you understand and appreciate what is really 'important' and valuable? And some of it can be quite humble in nature?
Jome27 4 years ago
Do a video about what the impetus of global unity would be. Call it 'what would unite us globally' or something like that. DO IT!
DoctorSensitive 4 years ago
Yeah, but if you try and fail then you will always look back and say "I could have been drunk and high instead of wasting my time trying", I guess it's all relative

Haaaa mellois. Love it.
theresident 4 years ago

I want boobies! I have to reach for boobies!
ihaveipgtech 4 years ago
We should begin with the premise that anything is possible to the person who tries and gives it every effort. A life of success & accomplishment would reinforce this idea in the individual.
"The more that is out there" is merely a figment of the ego and the imagination and should, as such, have no bearing on a persons happiness and well being.
bikenik 4 years ago
Thus to a person of achievement, the knowledge that one has the capacity and character to achieve the next or latest 'thing' is far more important than actually getting it. Personal freedom is the net result...
bikenik 4 years ago
There's no wrong answer here. Ignorance really is bliss - hence the people who don't try probably sleep pretty well at night.

Kant never left his home town. Blocking someone for using the word "materialistic" means that other adjectives apply. Has anyone been blocked for one of the "hot babe" comments? You think about it. Don't worry, I can find the door.
geometrodynamicist 4 years ago
Hey geo, I've never blocked anyone for using the word "materialistic" - only for using very bad words, haha. I encourage people to debate - though character assasinations aren't a debate...
theresident 4 years ago
Simply not true. You blocked Spawndonacle for stating that this video sounded materialistic -- which it does to me -- and for suggesting that you really did not know how you would feel at life's end. I know many Nobel Laureates and, as a whole, their needs are quite simple. Murray Gell-Man would be an outlier.
