Well you could give somebody - like a douchie principal - a nickname that only you use behind their back and use that as a security question answer. It just has to be something you don't tell other people who also hate that person. It's cruel, but it'll cover your ass.
The yahoo email "hack" wasn't actually a hack at all. The guy who got in actually just went through the password reset stuff for sarah, because the answer to her secret question was all over the media and world (she's not a quiet talker yanno :P).
As for what will happen, turns out that the proxy he used was rather minimum, and the FBI is already tracking him down.
It's nothing more than a celeb stunt, with NO brains behind it.
Again, free email = safe; just be smarter than palin
As David Kernell was quickly put in front of a grand jury it is very likely that they have evidence against him (we shall see). You are correct about the 'forgot your password reset' - this was unknown to me at the time of this vid & I have since made a vid about that topic.
Thanks for the comment - you are a well informed individual.
What's funny, the hacker who took the screenshots took a screenshot with his own Steam (Counterstrike:CS) account message window on the screen. What a dummy.
1. Stealing a person's mail (or email) is a Federal crime.
2. Even if Palin was using Yahoo! to avoid a "scandal" it is unlawful to commit a crime to reveal a crime or steal email or commit evil so good might come out of it.
3. The hackers were disappointed when they found nothing incriminating.
4. Websites that knew the material was stolen and/or private are accomplices since they shared the hackers original intent which was to unlawfully obtain and redistribute the stolen email abroad.
1. She deserved it for being stupid on recovery questions.
2. Unlawful yes, awsome yes.
3. The hacker(one hacker) was sort of disappointed that nothing really interesting was there, as anyone would be.
4. No, after something confidential gets distributed it is fair game. FBI reports that aren't a matter of national security are not an exception to this.
Rick Davis issued the following statement concerning reports about Gov. Palin's e-mail: "This is a shocking invasion of the Governor's privacy and a violation of law. The matter has been turned over to the appropriate authorities and we hope that anyone in possession of these emails will destroy them. Anybody remember the RNC, and how they raided peoples homes befor there was anything done and the arrests were made, wasn't that a violation of law and privacy? we need to stop these Nazi fags now!
Correction. Email accounts are not easy to hack if you have common sense. My account is protected by a password containing alpha-numeric characters, including symbols, at a length over forth characters.
My security question is bogus, with a scrambled answer of over a hundred characters so even I am unable to recover my password.
So even if someone gets into the Gmail servers directly, they will only have my password hash, which is well out of the range of any available rainbow table.
You may be unaware, but access to someone primary account, like mine, gives you nearly all their forum accounts. Not to mention Ebay, Amazon, etc.
All you need do is submit a password recovery request and the Email is sent there containing either a link to reset the password, or the password itself.
Both of which are extremely dangerous, as I would lose control of my many accounts connected to that one single primary Email account. That's why it's so protected.

Oh and I change my questions from time to time like a good boy so don't go telling me I compromised myself. That'n's outdated.

But the point is that not many people do have the common sense to secure their accounts properly.

Which should lead you to the point that technologically illiterate people should leave the Internet or face the consequences.
Don't go blaming it on the service when it's the user at fault.
