This band was one of my favorites during my youth in the 70's (and still is) so my advice to all you teenagers, study hard, stay off drugs, don't hate, stay out of trouble and love music because soon it will be "All Over"...
Sitting in my bedroom alone as a gorky 14 yr old geek while the rain fell outside day after day, doing my homework to this album night after night...never really felt that alone as long as this was playing...still don't...
can anyone say 'most underrated and unknown band of all time!!!'. I have loved ELO since I first heard them on the 'Virgin Suicides' soundtrack when I was about 10 years old. I still remember the song I fell in love with. 'Strange Magic' was it for me. And to my surprise after hearing them for the first time I went through my brother in laws cd collection and found their greatest hits album. I am saying this now and I hope you read this Kevin. 'I am sorry for stealing the album from you!!!' lol
@Taterzoid I'd personally imagine it in the middle of a romantic movie where the main character appears to blow their chance with the person they love. I wouldn't really imagine it in a game.
But we all have our own opinions and I respect yours.
I have to be careful not to listen to too much ELO these days.....brings back so many happy memories.....of times spent with good friends.....especially my best mate Nigel..now sadly no longer with us...much loved and still remembered
Sabrina... I count my blessings every day for being around with Elvis, ELO Moody Blues, the Sixties groups... Seve Ballesteros, Borg.. walking home at night having caught the last train and not having a care in the world with no thoughts of being molested... I am so grateful for being born when I was... But yes, you can enjoy and appreciate them now... Enjoy...
@Bootsie040 Um, no. As the second track on the album, this song followed Turn To Stone, and preceded Sweet Talkin' Woman. Mr. Blue Sky is the last track on side 3 of the LP.
Im 14 and i just found out about this ELO about a week ago and i have just been amazed by every i hear by them. ELO is truly a fie nominal band and i am just dying to get every album by them!
@NoahFB96 You're serious? Ah man! That's so cool! I'm 15, and I was introduced to ELO through my dad when he bought their Greatest Hits album. I wasn't too into them, but I really loved Mr. Blue Sky, and it wasn't until a few years ago that I started to really fall in love with them. I don't know many people my age who have even heard of them, so it's great to find someone other than me that likes them!
No matter how shitty your day at work was, listening to ELO will make all of your pains go away and relax you.
When I was a kid, my father would rock the shit out of the house with his 6' tall rack stereo! I grew up listening to these guys and still love them to this day.
@Rick02809 You are so right!! What a true genius he is....he created a sound all his own.....not sure if you know it or not but neither Jeff Lynne or ELO are in the rock and roll hall of fame....I for one think it is waaaay(and no my "a" didn't stick....I did that on purpose expressing the fact that it's long overdue) past time for him to be voted in!! What's wrong with the folks that vote on this stuff??
ELO & You Tube - who would've ever thought this would make a great combo, I agree - Thank Goodness for You Tube and you all for posting these great music from ELO!
ELO...the band I grew up with in the late 70s and early 80s. We went our separate ways but are now back together again.....such memories....a great band. RIP Mike Edwards.

@Unshackledtruth This is one of their best but it's really hard to choose between their tracks because they are all near perfect! It's great to hear people appreciating music from this time but it just shows how starved they are of real quality today. We were spoilt at this time with a wealth of great artists. I think ELO were unusual because of their heavy use of stringed instruments which gave them their unique sound. God they were good!
I'm just pee'd off mightily that ELO .and especially Jeff Lynne was not recognized as a great composer at the time, it appeared to me ,and others, that critics decided to pan his and their works just for the sake of it. Maybe they didn't throw obscene amounts of money at the critics and thats why they stomped 'em. But we like 'em , so fu** the critics !
Thanks for posting this. I found myself humming this song tonight and went on You Tube to see if I could find it. I have the original Out of the Blue album in a box stored away. I remember being in a cabin called The Place we had fixed up as a hang out at the cottage on Skeleton Lake, Muskoka, Ontario in the summer of 1978. I was 14. I had my first kiss there with this album playing all summer long. I love Telephone Line too. Kelly and Brian if your reading, do you remember? :)
I am Fernando muñoz from ecuador I think ELO is a part of my life because this group came to my life as adream when i saw the spaceship in my dreams for the first time with the shield of ELO so everything start with this strange message now when i need to practice more english i just listen ELO music and i share this with my students. thanks ELO for giving me the best gift of my live.
I remember buying this album a lifetime ago, still have it. It's funny nobody mentioned the colored cardboard spaceship that came inside the jacket of this double album. You had to bend and fold it then tuck in the tabs to get a little model of the spaceship on the cover. Another great ELO album is "Ole' ELO" it's an early greatest hits album. Check it out if you can. One of my favorite album covers as well.
I too lived that other life! Ole Elo was awesome! I also particularly liked Face the Music too. Out of the Blue was by far my favorite though. I would listen to all 4 sides at a time, and I think I wore sweet talkin woman and turn to stone right through! I had it on vinyl, then cassette and have it on CD now. It remains one of my favorites.
One of the geatest bands of all time!!! Really envious of the people who were alive when this band was at the height in their career, I would have loved to see them in concert!!! Oh well:-( I can still enjoy their music!!
i have seen them 4 times in my younger days , they sounded just as good live as on their records..huge unbelievable talent. never equalled. jeff lynne is legend
Im jealous of u!!! I was exposed to this band by my mother, I am 19 and she is 40 and I have been listening to them since I was a toddler, I especially love their music in Xanadu, their music is so authentic and unique, I have never heard anything like it EVER before.
@sabrinacolo15 I was a very fortunate as a girl at 19 when they made their 1st tour in the USA and saw them in Alabama. They were the 1st live band I ever saw and had the most fasinating light show! I was ready to go AWOL from the army and jump on their fan wagon! All other concerts I've attended since have always paled in comparison!
@cowgalhuny WOW, lucky you! another individual who lives in England told me that they were supposed to be getting back together and touring England sometime in the near future, hell, I would travel to the opposite side of the world to see this band so maybe I will get my chance after all!!!
@sabrinacolo15 I feel the same way. I'm 26 years old and have just discovered E.L.O. recently. Now I can't get enough. They are by far the best band ever. My blackberry even rings to "Calling America" lol.
@ChildOfThe1980s... I'm glad you got the opportunity to be exposed to this talented band!!! Most of the newer generation has no idea who ELO even is... and it's kind of a shame:-( I mean marketers and such use their music in many commercials... but to hear ELO on the radio now-a-days just doesn't happen frequently... therefore they are anonymous to many youngins... which, once again, is very sad:-(
@sabrinacolo15 yeah, me too! I hear them ever so often, but thank goodness for Youtube, as it's helped me to really discover them. I just wish they were still together ... I seem to remember that a few band members have passed - I know one of them died in Sept - but I've actually seen Foreigner in concert twice and they still have one original, so I'd love it if Jeff Lynne did some touring or something.
@sabrinacolo15 ---I indeed was lucky enough to see ELO at Madison Square Garden as teen for both the "New World Record" tour and twice at Giants Stadium for the 2 following album tours...they were awesome back them and one of the most innovative bands of the day...Jeff Lynne is a genius without question !
@sabrinacolo15 Actually ELO was my very first concert, back in the day! They played with Wet Willie. Anyone remember Wet Willie? ELO had the most amazing light show, showing my age now, but I have never seen anything like them again. I had the privlege of seeing 3 of their concerts. Something I will never forget thats for sure! Thank you Jeff Lynne & band. You are awesome. Check Jeff out in the Traveling Wilburys!
@sabrinacolo15 Not bragging or anything but imagine a 7 year old sitting in the game room in 1977 listening to this on the turn table.. over.. and over.. and over..:) This got to me then.. it still gets to me. ELO is amazing!
@sabrinacolo15 Hey, Sabrinacolo - thanks for making me glad to be 49 years old! :-) I saw them a few times. Took pictures (on FILM - GASP!). Lemme know if you'd like to see any of 'em - will scan and upload them someplace & post the URL.
hi talos 124, my name is louis clark (the son of....) , the strings and orchestra on any of the elo tracks are all down to to the man himself.... jeff may have done studio mix and produced... but the ol man has the scores to prove otherwise... mr. bluue is nothin to do with this!
@dreaming4000 I have to agree, Out of the blue was so underrated. The sound running through this entire double set was simple yet perfect. This is where Jeff Lynne really hit the mark and refined his sound. It's the greatest rock opera of all tiem.
Brings back some fond memories of my wild teenage years back in the mid-late 1970's about seven years before there were CD's and it was all 33 records and old 8-track tapes.
As well as all the disco fever with all the bell bottom and flared pants, platform shoes, not to mention Afro hairdos.
@unhooked25, I wish I could say the same, unfortunetely I was born in the 90's, but sometimes I'm convinced I have the soul of a much older person. :-)
Had my graduation exams with ELO music playing in the Stereo gramophone ages ago. During study breaks me and my friend did karaoke with this song and felt on the top of the world
im 17 and i LOVE ELO SOOOOOOO MUCH, people tell me they r for old people but if they were in the charts now, almost all their songs would be number 1, their music is timeless :)
Remember buying the Out of The Blue album about 1979 on vinyl. The ELO's music was so uplifting, timeless really. Saw them live at the Royal Ex Centre in Edinburgh in 1981, those were the days, thanx for the great memories guys.
Jeff Lynne is going nowhere.! I couldn't imagine life without him. I scan the mags and surf the net hoping for some snippet of news or appearance of him and when we're allowed a quick glimpse hes looking ageless and better than ever .Ive written on another site that i think hes worthy of a Knighthood or MBE for all the pleasure hes given the world Hope all his fans [and her Majesty] agree with me Gina
Agree. totally overlooked as one of the greatest songwriters. This is the guy that the Beatles turned too to produce their archive stuff - say nomore!!!!
My top five groups are :- ELO ELO ELO ELO and ELO I live and breathe Jeff Lynne I will never tire of His voice and ,Their music . Its said that they were inspired by and even copied The Beatles music, ? I think it may have been the other way round ? Has anyone heard Jeff sing and ELO play an equivalent to the untalented repetative racket of "She loves you yeah yeah yeah "! ? I think not !Jeff Lynne and ELO are National Treasures and were a million light years before their time
Brilliant comments!!! You've hit the nail smack bang on the head. Jeff Lynne is like no-other.a "one-off", "unique" and when he's gone..they will be no one to replace him...EVER!!!!
Hi bikerlady06, love the comment. A million light years before their time that may well be true! But you know what i`m just grateful that their time was the seventies and that i was there to be part of it. A true collection of talented musicians that have brought pleasure to their legions of fans through their music for over 30 years.
I love Electric Light Orchestra. I think they are one of those 80s bands that are fantastic. It is one of those tunes you can listen to again and again. I love the visual elements of this film showing serenity at its best
Though there were a few good hits from Elo in the 80's they were basically a 70's band (started in 1971). "It's Over" was on the album "Out of the Blue" released in 1977.
I'm 14 and I love ELO i'm jealous of my dad :(

sabrinacolo15 2 years ago 2
@sabrinacolo15 I was a very fortunate as a girl at 19 when they made their 1st tour in the USA and saw them in Alabama. They were the 1st live band I ever saw and had the most fasinating light show! I was ready to go AWOL from the army and jump on their fan wagon! All other concerts I've attended since have always paled in comparison!
cowgalhuny 1 year ago
@cowgalhuny WOW, lucky you! another individual who lives in England told me that they were supposed to be getting back together and touring England sometime in the near future, hell, I would travel to the opposite side of the world to see this band so maybe I will get my chance after all!!!
sabrinacolo15 1 year ago
@sabrinacolo15 I feel the same way. I'm 26 years old and have just discovered E.L.O. recently. Now I can't get enough. They are by far the best band ever. My blackberry even rings to "Calling America" lol.
ChildOfThe1980s 1 year ago
@ChildOfThe1980s... I'm glad you got the opportunity to be exposed to this talented band!!! Most of the newer generation has no idea who ELO even is... and it's kind of a shame:-( I mean marketers and such use their music in many commercials... but to hear ELO on the radio now-a-days just doesn't happen frequently... therefore they are anonymous to many youngins... which, once again, is very sad:-(
sabrinacolo15 1 year ago
@sabrinacolo15 yeah, me too! I hear them ever so often, but thank goodness for Youtube, as it's helped me to really discover them. I just wish they were still together ... I seem to remember that a few band members have passed - I know one of them died in Sept - but I've actually seen Foreigner in concert twice and they still have one original, so I'd love it if Jeff Lynne did some touring or something.
ChildOfThe1980s 1 year ago
@sabrinacolo15
I saw them twice, 1977 at wembly and 1980 at the NEC. They were awesome. Still my fav band
david1leigh 11 months ago
@sabrinacolo15 ---I indeed was lucky enough to see ELO at Madison Square Garden as teen for both the "New World Record" tour and twice at Giants Stadium for the 2 following album tours...they were awesome back them and one of the most innovative bands of the day...Jeff Lynne is a genius without question !
urlord24 11 months ago

GRAHAM5020 1 year ago
@dreaming4000 I have to agree, Out of the blue was so underrated. The sound running through this entire double set was simple yet perfect. This is where Jeff Lynne really hit the mark and refined his sound. It's the greatest rock opera of all tiem.

Brings back some fond memories of my wild teenage years back in the mid-late 1970's about seven years before there were CD's and it was all 33 records and old 8-track tapes.
As well as all the disco fever with all the bell bottom and flared pants, platform shoes, not to mention Afro hairdos.
Yes, all that was some era back in those days.
unhooked25 2 years ago
@unhooked25, I wish I could say the same, unfortunetely I was born in the 90's, but sometimes I'm convinced I have the soul of a much older person. :-)

sad reality of these times is people like what their friends tell them to. Its sad really, the production on ELO's music is simply amazing.

? I think not !Jeff Lynne and ELO are National Treasures and were a million light years before their time
Bikerlady06 2 years ago 10
Brilliant comments!!! You've hit the nail smack bang on the head. Jeff Lynne is like no-other.a "one-off", "unique" and when he's gone..they will be no one to replace him...EVER!!!!
talos124 2 years ago 3
Hi bikerlady06, love the comment. A million light years before their time that may well be true! But you know what i`m just grateful that their time was the seventies and that i was there to be part of it. A true collection of talented musicians that have brought pleasure to their legions of fans through their music for over 30 years.

I wish it was played more often, along with the rest of ELO's back catalogue.

I love Electric Light Orchestra. I think they are one of those 80s bands that are fantastic. It is one of those tunes you can listen to again and again. I love the visual elements of this film showing serenity at its best
sparebone 2 years ago 2
Though there were a few good hits from Elo in the 80's they were basically a 70's band (started in 1971). "It's Over" was on the album "Out of the Blue" released in 1977.
x00p3 2 years ago
sparebone, you mean a 70's band. This album came out back in 1977. One of the best from ELO.
