There really is no simple solution. Total collectivism and socialism leads to tyranny. If you base assistance on years paid into social security, then the self employed get the shaft. Thanks to Bill Clinton, there is no straight welfare anymore - only food stamps, and you can't pay a mortgage with food stamps. Getting on social security isn't easy (unless you're a child with a genetic disorder, like my daughter). People who have worked their whole lives get absolutely fucked.

But we did live on my daughter's social security while I was finishing my certification. I see so many middle-aged people, some of them friends, who should be getting social security, but they don't qualify. I don't feel guilty because we get it, I feel guilty because it was so easy for us, based on her condition.

No one "owns" a house. It's called PROPERTY TAXES. What this is is YEARLY RENT.
Even if I were rich, I'd still rent. Fuck the banks, let them sit with the houses they can't sell. Home ownership is a very expensive lie to live, my friends. Besides, if the kitchen stove breaks down, guess who has to fix it? Not me...the landlord. If theres a snowstorm, who has to shovel? Who cuts the grass? Who rakes the leaves? Cleans gutters?

so let me get this right this guy let his mortgage go for 4 MONTHS then wonders why they are foreclosing. he could have signed a deferral or some type of modification as soon as he couldnt pay instead of waiting and doing nothing. not saying the banks are right but come on at least be smart about it
