Second game of 1972 season, Namath throws for six touchdowns and 496 yards on 15 completions out of 28 attempts to defeat the Colts and Unitas. You may want to find the opinion of someone that the Jets didn't humiliate twice.
You're such a passive-aggressive dickhead. You don't know me, and you don't anything about my background. For all you know, I could've been a GM of a pro football team once in the 80's.
And you're making my point for me. You have to cling to one 4,000 yard season as proof of greatness, LOL. Like I said, Johnny Unitas who was UNIVERSES better than Namath considered Namath a BUM. I guess you know more than Unitas though, right? Whatever, dickhead, whatever.
The idea that you would compare Brad Johnson or Trent Dillfer to Joe Namath indicates that you never saw Namath play. Do some research and find out what Vince Lombardi had to say about Namath. Of course, you'll just tell us all how you know more about football than Lombardi.
So Lombardi is God? And what does knowing more about football have to do with anything? Bill Walsh is on record for calling Rick Mirer the next Joe Montana. Was he right? No, and Bill Walsh was arguably the greatest mind in the history of Pro Football.
I saw Namath play. He had a great arm, but his accuracy stunk. He threw a lot of DUMB interceptions. He didn't win enough. And if you take away Super Bowl 3, we're not even talking about him now. He wasn't that good.
@AllPro777 Lombardi isn't God, but certainly more of an expert on football and the value of players than you are. But I guess your argument is that everyone should value your opinion equally with coaches of multiple Super Bowl winning teams. Why don't you send your resume out to all 32 NFL teams, Im sure they'll fall all over themselves to hire you as a scout since your football knowledge is evidently superior to Lombardi and Walsh, because they dont agree with your low opinion of Namath.
Look asshole, this may come as a surprise to you, but everyone is entitled to their own opinion. Just because Lombardi said something doesn't make it true. Just because someone has more knowledge about something doesn't make it true. Since you wanna name drop like a starstruck teenage girl (OMG he sedz itz tru so it iZ!) Johnny Unitas considered Namath a bum and said so many times publicly. Do some research. Unitas knew more about QB'ing than ANYBODY. So, kiss my ass.
I also find it funny how you can't refute a single thing I said about Namath. You know why? Because it's a fact. You need to study because you know very little about the history of the game and its players. LEARN:
*He had a great arm
*His accuracy stunk = 50.1% for his career
*He threw a lot of interceptions = 220 to just 173 TD's
*He didn't win enough = 62-63-4 as a starter, he only won 2 playoff games.
*SB 3 was his ONLY memorable moment worth discussing.
@AllPro777 Listen, the draft is just two months away, certainly your time would be better spent contacting some NFL teams and letting them know you area available to help them finalize their draft board. Or maybe you should just head straight to the general manager position. You may want to mention that you think the first quarterback to throw for 4,000 yards and voted to all-time AFL team at quarterback wasn't very good. Evidently the "idiots" that voted him into the HOF weren't as smart as you
@highintensityairsoft ye but lombardi coached and namath played ball pre mel blount rule hard to compare qbs now and then. i wouldnt hold namath top 25 qbs all time myself but thats just me. trent dilfer wasnt that bad he had horrible luck just like david carr but he was ok alot better than leinart and other such busts
@highintensityairsoft Add in that he was the first quarterback to pass for over 4,000 yards. When Joe was healthy, he was one of the top two or three QBs of the era. The reason his stats look so bad was he was often hurt due to his injury-prone knees.
Why's everyone hating on emmitt? To do what he did for as long as he did it is something other great running backs would wish to be able to do! Don't forget that after 95' the cowboys started losing o-lineman in free agency. (that was also their last SB victory)
Funny how dirty players of the old days are celebrated, meanwhile we fine and demonize those same type of players today. Bunch of fucking hypocrits. Suh is dirty, but this game is already very violent anyways. And its not like he's headhunting out there. That stomp was nothing compared to some of the shit players were getting away with before.
I'm having a hard time seeing LA at no. 95 on this list. I mean, how many offensive linemen in NFL history would be drafted by NFL GMs ahead of Allen? John Hannah? Yes. Anthony Munoz? Yes. Bruce Matthews, Ray Parker, Jim Otto, Forest Gregg, Dwight Stephenson, Mike Webster, Art Shell?? Not so sure any of those guys. No. 95 seems too low for one of the two greatest guards in NFL history.
@highintensityairsoft so did joe willie bench press 692 pounds 24 times on tv? and also does he have 9 years, few super bowl rings, few pro bowls under his belt?
@highintensityairsoft well joe namath was a drunk and only really had 1 good year and did you read my full comment? you know the 9 hard years, few super bowl rings, and a few pro bowls. he basically gave emmitt smith that rushing record because of his strength and because of larry allen troy aikman is probably in the top 10 QBs of all time.
@Mcleod2daMax - Lol, right, John Randle said 'don't get him mad', lol. He wasn't fearful of anyone on the field, but from the way he's revering Larry Allen, he's probably the only OL that he came close to fearing, the guy was a Pro Bowl OL most of his career, and he'll be in The Hall Of Fame soon, count on it...
one of the several reasons why emmitt smith broke records sanders and walton payton had a horrid line that was wayy too inconsistent thats why they let barry line up as wide out since he was already gettin tackled in the backfield
@rockettransam911 barry sanders was a much better running back the emmitt....please trust me....an offense line is so important....its simple barry had no offense line period....not one guy on that loins O line could start for dallas....its the truth...thats why no serious person considers emmit records....
@winningtrolls barry sanders line was never as good as emmitt smith's true. but plenty of times barrys line could have blocks and a lane to run thru and barry would cut in back or bounce it outside and there was nothing there. he would lose 2 yards.he was all over the place. while emmitt would have just hit the hole and gaind 2 or 2 1/2 yards. but more than a few times barry broke a big run. i aggre barry was better. but emmitt earnd them yards. the most underrated quality in life consistancy.
@winningtrolls ... Detroit didn't have an offensive line? Really? Then, how did they beat Dallas in the '92 playoffs? And how did they have the #1-ranked offense in '94? And how did Barry rush for 2,053 yards in '97? Oh, I see, Barry did it all by himself, huh? Please, trust me...you don't know what you're talking about.
Barry was just that damn good. Who was on his Offensive Line again? Because I can count about five pro bowlers Emmit got to play with over his career in Dallas.
@SeanOMatic ... Yeah, Barry was just that good. He was so good that, in addition to being a 1,000-yard rusher, he was also a 4,000-yard passer (or was that Scott Mitchell?) AND a 122-catch receiver (or was that Herman Moore?). Yeah, Barry played every position. In fact, he should be inducted into the HOF at least three more times.
@emantabrizi Watch the footage. He almost did do it almost by himself. I'm not joking. Go watch the footage of him running backward, then juking the entire defense. Barry had no line.
@emantabrizi YES YES YES YES barry did it all bye himself....Thats the point so many people try too make....he had no help...his o line was badddddddd......his quarterbacks sucked......he had herman moore for three years.....trust me you dont no what your talking about.....you proubly donteven watch football BITCH
@winningtrolls Then why is three of Barry's linemen in the HOF? Yes Barry was more elusive than Emmitt, but Emmitt was bigger and harder to take down. Yeah Emmitt had a better O line, but Barry had a decent O line too. Don't justify it like that.
@CampyTheKid I think you might e very mistaken.....I would laugh at you and call you names but....i think you might be a joker,....Dude theres only three lions in the hall of fame,...and if what your saying is true then the lions had the best o line ever....YOUR so wrong and i get it your joking.....Im lauhing my ass off...please provide for me the names and i will stop laughing....
Three of Barry's linemen in the HOF? How about NONE of Barry's TEAMMATES are in the HOF, let alone any of his offensive line? Go the Pro Football Hall of Fame site and look it up yourself. Emmit played with THREE players currently in the HOF (Aikman, Irvin and Deion Sanders) Barry was just plain the best. Go by his YPC average and by his supporting cast and Barry was just plain unstoppable.
@rockettransam911 greatest running back on a star studded team that had playmakers out the yin yang. Jim Brown Walter Payton and Barry Sanders are the big three. smith was a great runner but not the GOAT
@Pusilinka ... Emmitt Smith won Rookie of the Year, led the league in rushing 3 times, won the NFL MVP, and won the Super Bowl MVP...all before Larry Allen was even drafted.
Uhhh..the greatest Lineman in the NFL to EVER play and he is...#95? This guy should AT LEAST be in the top 30. And this is coming from a Redskins fan who knows how many yards he gave overrated Emmitt Smith.
Joe Namath at #100?!?!?! Are you fucking KIDDING ME?!?!?! Wow, the voters REALLY dropped the ball on that one. Namath was a joke at the QB position. Give me a fuckin' break...
@TheJesseGladSaget. NFL Films is such a joke. They leave out First-ballot HoF's (Will Shields, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Randall McDanial) on smaller market teams and throw in random icons from New York and other big market teams despite them not really being all that exceptional.
@TheJesseGladSaget fck you, joe namath was a great quaterback despite his stats, he was obviously good enough to lead the jets to their first and only superbowl win, so just shut your fcking mouth
Don't feel bad, dude, he mostly gets overrated because of him guaranteeing the Jets would win SB III, which the defense and running game deserved 80% of the credit.
@fr3shascanb3 Please take it from someone who actually saw Joe play, he was great and he does deserve his place in the Hall of Fame and this NFL Films list. Unfortunately, some people couldn't recognize greatness if it bit them where they sit. If you feel any disappointment, it should be that you were not able to see him play in person. Some players were simply special, Joe was one of them, as well Gale Sayers, who although his career was short, was one of the most remarkable players ever.
3:15 basically sums it up. "dont get him mad" lmao. I loved the triplets, but without a doubt Larry Allen is one of my favorite cowboys of all time. loved watching him growing up. just a giant of a man
I was team photographer at Sonoma State during Larry's senior year there- watching him play Div. II ball was actually kind of comedic, the way he obliterated defensive linemen. And he was one of the nicest, most humble people i'd ever met- actually very quiet but fun to be around.
@jr5607 Ha that explains why he be getting blocked by rookie free agent guards one-on-one and throwing a fit when he cant have his way. Please Allen would smash him.....
@darthrevan6 hes a piece of shit a dirty fucking player stomps on another players arm because he was pissed and wouldnt wont say hes wrong classless act and btw since u wanna b on his dick fuck u too pussy
You're fucking gay, dude. Emmitt Smith is the greatest of all time. Look at the record books, bitch. Now shut the fuck up and talk about something that you know a little bit about.
And to the rest of you bitches who say Emmitt isn't the GOAT, fuck you too. You punks are just jealous. Suck it.
I think most of the list itself is pretty fair, but this is ridiculously low. It's no coincidence that Frank Gore had by far his best season with Allen in the O-Line.
The BEST that ever did it. Why do people always say Emmitt Smith only got those yards because of his line. Yes, that is part of it but, football is a team game. Its like blaming a dude for marrying a beautiful women who has a personality to match. You don't Rush for over 18,000 yards just because of your line, you need skill and Emmitt had that....
@youngneeley What you said is partially true, but it isn't that simple. Emmit's durability was far more important to him breaking records than his skills. He was able to play for a considerably longer time than most backs because of his durability, and a good portion of why he stayed so healthy was from his amazing line, he didn't take too many direct hits from lineman. IMO there are many backs were skill wise were much better than Emmitt, just not as durable, and didn't have as great O-Line.
in my mind, top 3 of the 90s. how many other people could play so many different positions and still be the best at all of them. also, any one else a more dominant on the OL during the 90s?................NO
@bingbangboombing I know right? I thought there would maybe be only 1 or 2 on here, because everyone knows that linemen are very underrated. But, luckily there are 5 or so O-lineman on this list.
"Its about pride, its you vs him, in the trenches"- Thats what I love about football. I wish those battles were covered more closely on the TV broadcasts. Grimm vs White in the 82 NFC Championship was a good one recently covered by NFL FIlms.

@seanman70 they were the best team because they had amazing players
rockettransam911 2 months ago
@seanman70 Emmitt wasn't always on a star studded team. He was always the best in the league in that position.
rockettransam911 2 months ago

TheJesseGladSaget 3 months ago 28
@TheJesseGladSaget soo your saying he dosen't deserve to be on the list?
Kilox1000 1 month ago
@Kilox1000
Yup. Go do some research on him, bro. He was a mediocre QB at BEST.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget
well a joke won a super bowl lol
IHMKI 1 month ago
@IHMKI ''So?? Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson "won a SB". Namath had an average game in Superbowl III, and was an average QB. PERIOD.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget . Tell me about it. Broadway Joe makes it and somehow Will Shields, Willie Roaf, and Randall McDaniel don't? What a joke!
YonderGreen 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget. NFL Films is such a joke. They leave out First-ballot HoF's (Will Shields, Derrick Thomas, Thurman Thomas, Randall McDanial) on smaller market teams and throw in random icons from New York and other big market teams despite them not really being all that exceptional.
YonderGreen 1 month ago
@YonderGreen
The amount of facts in your comment nearly caused me to black out!
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget fck you, joe namath was a great quaterback despite his stats, he was obviously good enough to lead the jets to their first and only superbowl win, so just shut your fcking mouth
hunterzone2 1 month ago
@hunterzone2
*facepalm*
Yeah, so Trent Dilfer and Brad Johnson led the Ravens and Bucs to their SB wins, too, right??
Give me a fucking break, moron.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago 2
@TheJesseGladSaget wait so are you saying Namath wasnt a good player and doesnt deserve to be on this list?
fr3shascanb3 1 month ago
@fr3shascanb3
He was a mediocre Qb. He doesn't deserve to be on this list.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget mediocre? then why the fuck is he in the hall of fame?
fr3shascanb3 1 month ago
@fr3shascanb3
Because he was overhyped playing in the Big Apple. Go do some research on the dude; he's overrated. He's not even a top-25 QB of all-time.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@TheJesseGladSaget damn i always hear old ppl talkin about how great joe "willy" namath was now im dissapointed
fr3shascanb3 1 month ago
@fr3shascanb3
Don't feel bad, dude, he mostly gets overrated because of him guaranteeing the Jets would win SB III, which the defense and running game deserved 80% of the credit.
TheJesseGladSaget 1 month ago
@fr3shascanb3 Please take it from someone who actually saw Joe play, he was great and he does deserve his place in the Hall of Fame and this NFL Films list. Unfortunately, some people couldn't recognize greatness if it bit them where they sit. If you feel any disappointment, it should be that you were not able to see him play in person. Some players were simply special, Joe was one of them, as well Gale Sayers, who although his career was short, was one of the most remarkable players ever.

3:15 basically sums it up. "dont get him mad" lmao. I loved the triplets, but without a doubt Larry Allen is one of my favorite cowboys of all time. loved watching him growing up. just a giant of a man
TheWholeSystemisFckd 3 months ago
I was team photographer at Sonoma State during Larry's senior year there- watching him play Div. II ball was actually kind of comedic, the way he obliterated defensive linemen. And he was one of the nicest, most humble people i'd ever met- actually very quiet but fun to be around.

The BEST that ever did it. Why do people always say Emmitt Smith only got those yards because of his line. Yes, that is part of it but, football is a team game. Its like blaming a dude for marrying a beautiful women who has a personality to match. You don't Rush for over 18,000 yards just because of your line, you need skill and Emmitt had that....
youngneeley 6 months ago
@youngneeley What you said is partially true, but it isn't that simple. Emmit's durability was far more important to him breaking records than his skills. He was able to play for a considerably longer time than most backs because of his durability, and a good portion of why he stayed so healthy was from his amazing line, he didn't take too many direct hits from lineman. IMO there are many backs were skill wise were much better than Emmitt, just not as durable, and didn't have as great O-Line.
