    How's the chassis stiffness on the 9000? I find the Alfa Romeo 164 just stiff enough but I've heard the Lancia Thema is quite flexible.

  • Love the way the APC guage goes off the dial,mine will only go half way into the red with the mod i have done on my 87 2.0l :-)

  • @Sirobin44 Not as fast. The V6 Saabs were known for being unreliable, heavy and not having any real tuning headroom.

  • @DontBeSuchAHolyFool boost a c900 like that and you can take of with not problems at all not even touching the steering wheel. The engine is in backwards eliminating the torque steer. :D best handling car EVER!

    I know what u mean, Saab 9000s are the ultimate sleeper. I take down chevy camaros and mustangs with my 97 9000 Aero all the time. People (especially in rural American areas) have no clue even a stock 9000 holds. I get shocked ass expressions when I go flying by there Camaro at 135mph in a freaking 4-door

  • my dad has a 9000 aer0 with 600bhp and all the local kids think its a pile of sh*t, apart from one kid who's dad has a r32 golf his dad pulled up at lights with my dad tryin to act hard i bet u can guess wat happend nxt, now his dad is trying to find one to buy one, verry rare.

  • @KingOfTheClutch So what is your estimate then? Do you realize this is in third gear only? Normally, the 2nd gear would end quite high into this 80-180 kph range, which would make 0 - 200 acceleration a breeze. It would probably be 10 seconds, not 11, actually. 600+ hp is about right for the estimate then, I think.

  • @wlsktr i put one into a wall at 30 ( well, took the turn at 40 chasin a wrx ) bounced off a wall not a bother to me, bumper was scuffed light and wiper needed to be changed, everything else was mint !

  • i made my mums faster than this, i put an aftermarket fuel pump in and changed the injectors to larger duty cycle ones, then swapped the hoses on the boost controller around, so it never opend the wastegate, was great for a bit of fun but it always blew all the hoses and stuff off the manifold, never broke the engine though :P

    I definitely dislike the 3.0 v6 engine. It's motor is an Opel engine. And you don't buy a Saab for the luxury, but for the fact that it's a Saab, and a Saab needs a Saab engine. Btw, if you want a powerful 9000, you should drive the 2.3 turbo. That's even faster!

    Actually, it's still original SAAB. GM didn't screw everything up until 1999 :) As 9000s go, '93-'98 was all SAAB :)

  • He start in 3 gear! my 9000 aero in the past with ecu mod with 7100Rpm go up to 220km/h and left 2 speed after ... :-)

  • När jag kollar lite ytterligare så kanske det inte var spolat. Tyckte att det såg ut som om att det var spolat, såg ut som det "hackade" sig fram som det gör när det är spolat. MEn ser att varvmätaren hänger med bra så det överensstämmer. MItt fel, sorry!

  • These are great engines and with a few tweaks make stupid amount of power for a front wheel drive car. Spot the torque steer!

  • Looking at the video again the car accelerates from 80 to 180 kph (50 to 112.5 mph) in 6 seconds NOT 7 seconds. Is that FAST?! It goes from 80 to 140 kph (that's 50 to 87.5 mph) in 4 seconds and from 140 to 180 kph (87.5 to 112.5 mph) in 2 seconds!!!

  • That's 80 to 180 kph (50 to 112.5 mph) in 7 seconds - must be in 3rd gear - very fast indeed - I have an unmodified Saab 9000 Aero with almost 350,000 miles! (that's almost 560,000 kilometres!) on the clock - it still flies, especially in 2nd and 3rd gear. Anyone else heard of a 9000 Aero with such a high mileage?

  • I just bought my Aero off a relative for cheap, its got 210,000 miles

  • I don't think it's in 3rd gear.

    It starts with a too low rpm of 3000 at 80kph already. Looks rather like 4th gear without changing it to 5th. I guess the Turbo does all the job.

    A non turbo wouldn't be able in the slightest to do the same in 4th or even 3rd gear. :D

    But I could be wrong about the rpm/gear part. Maybe Saab900 always has higher rpms.

  • A think it's a 35:låda (does 35km/h at 1000rpm at top gear (fifth)). But the a original saab only rews about 6250rpm, this one is up to 7000 in this vid. My "40-låda" (40-gearbox) does 180-185 at 3 gear @6250rpm. This should mean that the gearbox (at least) isn't an AERO gearbox. .

  • We have a Saab 900 2.0, no turbo or anything, in third gear at 4000 rpm it already does 120 km/h. So i guess you're wrong.

  • Runs pretty well, just curious about whp and torque? Few of my friends have tried same turbo with 2.3 Saab engine and haven't been so delighted, mainly because slow spool up even compared to Holset hx40 size turbos.

  • This 9000 isn't an automatic, look at the display in the instrumentpanel.

  • In the middle display. With an automatic there are four (green) symbols (P R N D) with the current mode underlined, with a manual gearbox you can read out the current fuel consumption, which are shown by a number of lights, and, as you can see, are in this case, by acceleration, all burning.

  • They changed the gearing in '94, plus thats an Aero I think, which had gearing like that anyways. I no my 9000CD 2.3i did 85mph in 3rd, and my 95 Aero does 110.

  • revving out your engine isn't bad for it at all if it's running right and it's warmed up. In fact an engine that gets loped around all the time will usually run worse than an engine that gets wound out on a normal basis.

  • That engine wouldn't last two minutes if it didn't have that build quality. Saabs are built like tanks.

  • I agree with you about saabs being built like tanks, but a stock top end wont support 7K + rpm, atleast safely. MY c900 would rev til about 6300 rpm but I probably would be floating valves past that.

  • Hey dude not at all. The just rely on another mechanism that bring more air into the injection system causing a bigger explosion in the cylinders. The gear box will not have anything to do with turbo engines.

  • Actually there is a diff b/t the turbo and NA 9k's. The turbo had a 4.05 final drive, the NA had a 4.45. I forget teh exact number, but the later 9k's and Aeros has a 3.6(?) final drive. Other than the final drive, all the gears were the same.

  • The SAAB Turbo models are fitted with different gear ratio gearboxes.

    The "dude" 'empathyembraced' wrote like a clown in the answer he gave... perhaps that was intentional ?

    Anyway the Turbo models have higher (taller) gearing to avoid wheelspin and make better use of the MASSIVE torque from the Turbo engines.

  • I have one of those, saab 9000 cse.... beautiful car! the saab is great anyway, my mother crashed into a moose at 90 kph in a saab 900 once and it didn't as much as break a wing mirror...! go saab =)
