I got to see Further in Santa Barbara and at The Greek Theater in LA, I'm 19 and they were some of the greatest experiences I've ever had! Even though I couldn't get in, my finger was raising high for that ticket, and I got to meet some cool cats there!
i went to the jerry garcia night at the sf giants ballpark. and i was raised in sf. but never listen to the grateful dead. all the deadheads at the park were so cool. so friendly funny just great people. so i asked them for someone who never listen to the grateful dead. what album would recommend to someone just getting into. they told me to get shakedown street album. i plan on buying it today but now i love the grateful dead. RIP in Jerry :D go giants
@LSDISGOOD4U gosh i love this album i got a few days later. its so weird i hear so my different styles of music in each song. do the grateful dead have there only genre of music lol. from shakedown street what album would you think would be good.
@Pandabearmadness Well, you absolutely MUST own: American Beauty, and Workingmans Dead, but honestly, you will not hear a bad song on any Dead album from the 60's or 70's. Their live recordings are where the real magic is though.
seriously might be the coolest thing i ever read... i'm excited for you and all the music you're about to get into but if anything, go to a show... not sure how old you are I was like 12 and had a chance to see Jerry Garcia band...he died a year later, now that im such a fan i really regret it... but go to a show definitely...
I recommend getting your hands on some dicks picks. Cornell University 77' would be a nice one. I always loved Europe 72' as well. They really are a great band to get into. They're like the Beatles in the way that they could do no wrong. Enjoy!
awesome...im playin this song on my radio station right now...98.8 Rebel Radio...RIP JERRY!!

Sweet! 1st time playin' "Shakedown Street' live.
"Shakedown" was the opener at my 1st show. After Phil slapped that 1st bass line, my life hasn't been the same since...

If your trying to sum up the dead vibe you have to go back a little further than that. If anything those guys were influence by the dead.

people were starting to get down on SF for becoming so gay. The dead told them-- maybe the dark is from your eyes....
