A step machine combined with a stationary bike is not ground breaking technology in the 21st century. @DefSp 1/I've wanted 1 for yrs, but can't rationalize my budget: I've become an expert on the used market. 2/ No bike: Main unit is full-range upperbody push + upperbody pull. 3/No other stepper has ultra-wide range & high resistance. 4/Self-adjusting:1st rep & last rep fully resist your best effort. 5/ROM has no skill transfer, but neither do barbells: I don't know why teams don't use it. They probably never tried it. 7/Ellipticals have virtually no resistance & no range of motion. 8/Try it.
@yaktipper@yaktipper "Need"? Not the point. This is one -more- VERY effective way to exercise, for those who want it & can afford it. @yaktipper Yes. As a far as equipment, I personally feel quite content with a few heavy dumbbells, a chinning bar, dipping bars, a jump rope, and the floor, along with 30 minutes to use them. I nonetheless believe, after using one a few times , that the ROM takes the place of all of them in the four minutes claimed..so, yes, vanity, but also efficiency & completeness, except for rehearsing sport specific skills

$100G cars do what $20G cars do. Like it. Afford it. Buy it. ROM's good on physiology: Harder you can work, shorter you have to work, (within reason): Elite runners get a workout w/a mile run. Most folks run too slow, (intensity too low), or cant finish mile,(volume too low). ROM allows us to work our hardest for 4min. As long as you give an honest full effort, you're good in 4 min. Not a necessity, a luxury. I don't have one, & don't have a Mercedes either, but I'd love to have both.

@makohit Not what I think, what I know: Athletes spend the bulk of their training time rehearsing skills, very little of it is to 'get in shape' in any general sense, except after long layoffs. If running for long periods is a part of the sport, yes, then they train it accordingly. Otherwise,'cardio' training an hour is an old school tactic long disproven: EX: Boxers once did roadwork for long stretches, now raise intensity to sprint, & go at it for the length & # of rounds of the bout.

@makohit I'm a 'fan' of nothing, but curious about everything: I take what works for me from different systems & throw the rest away. It's called first-hand experience. Try it sometime, you might like it. / If you investigate a bit further, you'll see that I've been very critical of both the 1RepGym & ROM when exaggerated claims were made for them. / If all I am is as you say, what are you for responding?
@lazur1 'Makohit': Why'd you remove your comments? Why'd you send me a private message w/a note that I'm blocked from returning a message ? What made you think I'd send you a private message? i'll take your mass deletion as an admission that you've been defeated. By the way, your mentor,'Scooby' is added to the long list of opionated people who've never tried the ROM. The other pieces he critiques lower intensity too low for effective exercise. ROM RAISES intensity. You'd know if you tried it.
@makohit ? When you train to your limits, whether it's a muitlple-hours long marathon, a split second Olympic lift, or anything between, & your limits increase. If you want to increase the distance you run,(bike, swim), in 20min, you must run,(bike, swim), for 20min. Otherwise, your options are much broader. Ex: "Body By Science": 5 exercises each lasting about 1 minute. Read the book.
wow, what a piece of sh*t! who in their tiny mind would pay 15k for this modern day snake oil? Want to get fit and lose weight? What you need is 6 feet of floor space, patience, effort, knowledge of how to work out correctly (visit a library), and a sensible diet.
Anyone with a basic understanding of bio-organic chemistry can tell you that it takes longer than 4 minutes to β-oxidize fats. During this "4 minutes" you will hardly even be depleting your glycogen stores. Prove me wrong, well actually don't, because I know I'm right.
Yea. Your about as right as those believing the sun orbits the earth or still believes the earth is flat. I'll take that challenge as soon as you can accept being wrong. I have people that come into my gym, Quick Gym of Co/Springs and bet me $100 dollars but refuse to get on the machine and after only showing the studies walk out WITHOUT leaving the $100.
@Nelvarro What people are ignoring is the high rate of long term use, satisfaction,& positive results among ROM owner-users. Start with what's actually happening, & then use science to explain -that-. Obviously oxidizing fats & depleting glycogen stores,(if you're correct this won't occur within 4 minutes of any intensity), aren't the only issues. The positive effect on mitochondria appears to be quite extreme.
You're disregarding the issue: It's the "wussies" who -need- the exercise. Athletic young poeple get their exercise virtually without a thought, just by expressing their high energy levels & competitive spirit. For the population at large to be as healthy & fit as possible: older, fatter, less active, less motivated people,(wussies),must also exercise.
This is not for athletes. The fortunate ones who can run long & hard enough to get an exercise effect without injury should indeed do so. (If you can run a 6 minute mile, you can get a full workout from that alone.) Many, if not most of the population will tire or get hurt before they get any advantage from running. I can't afford an ROM, (nor fit it in my place), but I've tried it, & it works very well.
what a dangerous piece of workout equipment. this should be in the hall of shame with the other crap that is advertised on tv when you should be sleeping. that rowing range of motion WILL destroy your lumbar region of the spine in no time from being hyper flexed and your knees will get jack hammered doing those step mill style exercises too!
Clear the air: W/ just a barbell, you can do a 1 X wk / 20 min workout that'll give you all the strength, endurance, (& leanness, if diet's under control), needed to maintain an active (non-athlete) lifestyle & any related health benefits. Getting any 'fitter' than that doesn't make you any healthier, (& might actually hurt your health: ask Lance Armstrong). If a barbell's the problem-free used Chevy, the ROM is the Rolls-Royce. Cant afford it?: you dont need it. Still a good machine.
I think this thing is great. I love the full body workout that it gives me in just 4 minutes a day, 4 times per week. That saves me time in my day. I need that time to go make more money to pay for my incredibly efficient and effective workout, as well as the rehab to my back and groin. BTW, the music comes with the machine. $15K is a small price to pay for confidence.
This combo StairMaster/Schwinn Airdyne-thing is designed to separate a rich, lazy fool from his money. Promising a workout in "only 4 minutes" with this ridiculous contraption is brilliant advertising/marketing.
Here's a real workout: do as many burpees as you can in that same four minute period, and see how you feel. I guarantee if you're an untrained individual, you won't make it through the first minute. Do the same with 1-minute sprints. Cost: $0.
You've made the point : An untrained individual -won't get - full advantage of burpees or sprints : Due to weight, age, arthritus, old injuries, or lack of co-ordination: Many will give out in less than 10 seconds. The ROM will automatically adjust the resistance to max ability of the user for each rep over a 4 minute workout, thus: as good a workout as they can get. ROM would be the first to tell you: If you can do 1 minute sprints, you dont need ROM.
This thing is a joke. Most of the exercises shes doing look awkward like they built the machine first then said hey, if you do it like this it works out your back. Youll loose more weight and increase your cardio more by simply running. The range of motion isnt going to help your strength unless your fitness is at the lower 10% of America. Also, their employees spend countless hours hyping up this machine in forums...so don't buy the hype.
I'm not an employee, just someone who tried, liked & cant afford ROM. I live in Chicago. 'Most of the exercises'? There are only 2 total: Full-body pull that reverses to full-body press, & a full-range step. Neither was awkward when I tried them. Running: The most injury-causing exercise, even for the fit. Running mags financed w/ads from MDs & physical therapists. Fat, sedentary middleagers running? Please."Fitness..lower 10%..', of high school students maybe : More like 50% of gen pop.
ROM works strength -&- endurance: It's like an automatic barbell, getting lighter according to your strength: Every rep resists your hardest effort, no matter how weakened you've become from the previous rep. This allows you to truly work your hardest for 4 min. No other method does this. Thus a "better barbell", AND a "better sprint", all in 1. It ain't car insurance: Nobody makes you buy one. Might as well complain about a 3-Carat diamond ring,Mercedes V12 or Beverly Hills mansion: Luxuries.
If you make self weaker on the following sets, you will never know it and might make your self weaker overall, while the machine make you think otherwise, nothing is better than gravity.
I don't understand what you mean. 1/You dont do "following sets": You do -one- four minute set per workout. 2/You -will- know what your objective effort was:The meter will register how much total work you did, & the maximum workload level you hit. 3/Exercise itself is -supposed to- make you weaker -during- the workout . It's from the rest & sleep -afterwards- that you get stronger & more muscular.
ATTENTION: "depoteco' has erased my posts @ "ROM Machine Demo Video...". I noted: 1/ Danger in an exercise she invented. 2/ No accountability for reversing resistance in an exercise description. 3/ The questionable need for added exercises in the first place. 4/ The anti-ROM philosophy of her TWO 4 minute workouts BACK-TO-BACK w/a 1min break! (she revealed this in her response, also erased now). I'm pro-ROM, & wouldn't' want her inventions to reflect on the machine.
The most efficent way to combine strength, flexibility,& endurance in 1 short workout. Used as designed to be used: The hardest 4 min you'll ever spend in your life. Anyone who thinks rowers or weights'll do the same thing doesn't understand reversing, accommodating resistence. There's NO OTHER WAY to get constant high-intensity effort for 4min, unless you run a 4min mile. Think of it as a Porsche: You dont need it, you cant afford it, but it's better than what you've got. Don't be jealous.
All of the comments above seem to be purely opinion and no experience with the machine. Perhaps there are a lot of personal trainers out there who are afraid they are going to be out of a job. I haven't tried the machine yet either but I sure would like to.
People who buy this are insane. Come on, just buy a waterrower for $900 and spend 8 min on it. Looks like rowing to me.
When I came across the add in a magazine I thought it was a joke and to my amazement it is not. I wonder, the ROM 2.0 will that be a 3 min or 2 min workout?
When I first saw the picture in a magazine I thought there was some way to lay down backwards on the thing, stick your arms and legs out like an upside down praying mantis, and work every muscle in your body in only four awesome minutes. Wow, the video really disillusioned me.
This thing is the BIGGEST piece of shit....No one better even think about buying this....
Go by a rowboat, do some chest presses and some ab work...its the SAME thing...wait....its BETTER...cause its REAL exercise that takes longer than 4 minutes...4 minutes a day my ass
The greater intensity the less time for aerobic workout. Problem; w/intense effort, muscles fails in secs, before aerobic workout's achieved, (except for world class milers, who can exert intensity 4 min). Solution: Automaticly lowering resistance in reaction to ability, allowing max effort each rep, allowing max intensity for 4 mins: Complete strength & aerobic workout in 4 min. Can't afford it? Kettlebll swings are an aproximatn. Get 10 dif weights, go lighter as you get tired.
so.... what if I need to be hardcore for 5 min? can this help you do anything sweet performance wise? for example help me with my iron man triathlon? Its clinically impossible to burn fat at an efficient rate in 4 min, or even be considered significant cardio. I don't know what the major benefits are, but I know what it doesn't benefit. what a waste of raw materials
You can work ROM as long as you wish, the ROM will continue to give effective accomodating resistance to your lessening strength, until you simply cant move anymore, if that's what you like. Try it first, then criticize if you wish. ROM wont take the place of specific skills & conditioning. No exercise will. Iron Man competitors must practice Iron Man.
Doesn't look like you can do a whole lot of different exercises. Is ROM short for Really Over-priced Machine? For that price I can buy two Bowflexes and still have money for a family vacations many times over.
so you mean to tell me that you can adjust the seat height and flywheel?!?!?!?!? get the hell out!!! that is simply amazing what a scam. this thing looks like absolute shit my back hurts even looking at a demonstration.
There are full range of motion exercises you can do with dumbbells to get a full-body workout in 4 1/2 to 5 minutes. You don't need an overpriced machine to get similar results. That being said, if it was at 1/10 the price (which seems reasonable for what the machine is) I may be interested in buying one. I don't know why they charge so much for it but since they've manged to sell 4000 of them that is over $50 million in revenue, and their profit margin is probably $13000.
I just find it's odd that there is comment after comment from people who judge based on any reason besides results or actual experiencce....This company has been around since 1990 so they are selling these things. I hear there are clubs where you can use them... so let's hear from folks who have actually USED the machine.
It's for people who wouldn't otherwise work out at all. Busy rich people with 14k to drop would like the idea of a complete workout in 4 minutes per day.
The machine is extremely effective, takes about 10 seconds to "set up", and it can be more intense than you would believe. Most people can't do 4 minutes straight their first try.
Individuals who work out regularly can still get a great HIIT workout from it.
So if I do this for an hour I can burn about 7000 calories? That's two pounds. Health insurance companies should be buying these for their obese clients and whipping them into shape in about 6 months. What a joke. I can't believe they have sold any.
True, I was doing some research unlike these other ignorant idiots who just knock it. Apparently this does work and 4 mins is actually difficult to do. And also for 4 mins a day thats awesome, you pay a little more to get from A to B faster, People could spend 150 bucks on a bike to get from LA to Vegas but some pay for an airplane whi is 300 bucks to get from A to B faster. Makes sense to me. ROM OWNS!
Haha that works when the ticket is only twice the price of the bike but this thing is 100 ($150 x 100 = 15 000) to 14x more expensive than a more conventional means. Also this machine does not work your upper lats properly and seems to force your body into sloppy form which isn't the best for the joints. You could do deadlifts and presses on the floor (bench press on the floor) with a barbell and suitable weights for even less then what I said before and get a better full bodyworkout in 4 min.
In order for any really improvement to your cardio you need at least 30 min. (that can mean 10 min bouts x 3. 4 min will stress your heart but not make really improve it. see my other comments if you are interested in discussion.
Read up on HIIT. Short bursts of intense aerobic activity yield different benefits than endurance aerobic training, but in the end, both burn calories, HIIT just does it faster.
My understanding of HIIT is that you do do short bursts of high intensity movement but you then do a period of low followed by high again and so on. Just 4 min of HIT isn't enough you need that other I. I believe HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, which means you need to switch it up. Even so if this was good for HIIT for $14 615 you could buy a stretch of land in the Dominican to do 300m sprints on and a bicycle to get there.
HIIT takes longer than 4 minutes, lol. You simply can't build your heart up if you don't put in the time, since your heart cannot output any more blood once it hits 180BPM. In HIIT you're basically taking your heart to the limit, taking it back down, then taking it to the limit again. But you still need well more than 4 minutes if you want to improve your cardiovascular health.
HIIT doesn't have a set time requirement. The nature of it is to significantly elevate your heart rate to levels you simply can't sustain for more than seconds. 4 minutes is more than enough for 95% of Americans to improve their conditioning. I do concede that at a certain point you will need to begin adding time to your ROM workout if you want more progress. A consistent 4 minutes a day is enough to bring a person to and then maintain above average physical condition.
4min is plenty if you do it right (look up Tabata method). However this equipment is a useless piece of crap. The forced range of motion on the rowing aspect is TERRIBLE and totally out of line. What is the point of stupid stairmaster, just go run 400M repeats. God what a joke, hopefully no one buys this.
4 minutes might burn a few calories but it will absolutely not be a real cardiovascular workout. A human heart cannot pump more than 180 beats per minute without starting to pump LESS blood, so no matter how hard you work out you can only work your heart out so much. The ONLY way to improve cardio function is to keep it at a high level of both heart rate and contraction strength for an extended period of time, which is definitely NOT 4 minutes.
A quick look around any STATE PRISON YARD reveals that superior level of physical conditioning can be achieved with nothing more than a set of cast iron free weights, simple body weight exercises and three square meals per day.... This looks like a really bad rip off.
The models were fit but not super athletes or anything.
You could do a wider range of exercises with a few pairs of kettle bells for a lot less money with similar if not superior results.
And 4 minutes a day isn't going to cut it unless you have extremely strict eating habits. Probably not even then. Not to mention it would take about 10 minutes just to get this thing ready to use.
I think the prize was on 16 grand or something. Dunno might just be a lie but I mean even though it is rubbish it's certainly not cheap making. I pity those who buy it. It's hard to comprehend the stupidity of that industry and that product in one youtube post.
lol @ the $14,000.00 price tag. For a grand one could get a complete set of free weights and stationary bike and then hire one of the best personal trainers in the world with what's left.
Those kind of comments make me thing you're a bot, haha. Or you can invest the money in other ways like season card to a proper gym and hire some real worldly renowned coach to train you.
The ROM is a great exercise machine. I refused to believe that it could actually work until my friend convinced me to come to his house and use it. I did so every day for 2 months and then I bought one. That was 2 years ago and I still use it every day. I get a better workout than I used to in a half hour to 45 minutes of weight training and the bike. I don't really expect anyone to beleive me, you have to use it to beleive it, but it really gives you a full workout in 4 minutes.
Very Cool to see you have the ROM on YouTube. I used to work with Alf and my partner and I sold one to Kelly Preston & John Travolta! For those who need the study proof, USC already did one and found all positive evidance and results. It really works.. DUH!
It should be called the POS exercise machine.

CrossFit body weight workouts are free and will kick your butt in 4 minutes as well.

Read the book.
lazur1 1 year ago
wow, what a piece of sh*t! who in their tiny mind would pay 15k for this modern day snake oil? Want to get fit and lose weight? What you need is 6 feet of floor space, patience, effort, knowledge of how to work out correctly (visit a library), and a sensible diet.
yamabushi170 2 years ago
Anyone with a basic understanding of bio-organic chemistry can tell you that it takes longer than 4 minutes to β-oxidize fats. During this "4 minutes" you will hardly even be depleting your glycogen stores. Prove me wrong, well actually don't, because I know I'm right.
Nelvarro 2 years ago
Yea. Your about as right as those believing the sun orbits the earth or still believes the earth is flat. I'll take that challenge as soon as you can accept being wrong. I have people that come into my gym, Quick Gym of Co/Springs and bet me $100 dollars but refuse to get on the machine and after only showing the studies walk out WITHOUT leaving the $100.
kajalee 2 years ago
The world is flat
Nelvarro 2 years ago
@Nelvarro What people are ignoring is the high rate of long term use, satisfaction,& positive results among ROM owner-users. Start with what's actually happening, & then use science to explain -that-. Obviously oxidizing fats & depleting glycogen stores,(if you're correct this won't occur within 4 minutes of any intensity), aren't the only issues. The positive effect on mitochondria appears to be quite extreme.
lazur1 1 year ago
is this the machine that cost 15K?

Yes it is. But at Quick Gym of Co/Springs we can get you one for thousands less. For more information or to try one call 719-440-1745

Machines are a wusses way out
Alcidefreedom666 2 years ago
You're disregarding the issue: It's the "wussies" who -need- the exercise. Athletic young poeple get their exercise virtually without a thought, just by expressing their high energy levels & competitive spirit. For the population at large to be as healthy & fit as possible: older, fatter, less active, less motivated people,(wussies),must also exercise.

So really that is a $15,000 rowing machine with a stair stepper built on the back. Sure thing sign me up....?

mni09 2 years ago
This is not for athletes. The fortunate ones who can run long & hard enough to get an exercise effect without injury should indeed do so. (If you can run a 6 minute mile, you can get a full workout from that alone.) Many, if not most of the population will tire or get hurt before they get any advantage from running. I can't afford an ROM, (nor fit it in my place), but I've tried it, & it works very well.
lazur1 2 years ago
what a dangerous piece of workout equipment. this should be in the hall of shame with the other crap that is advertised on tv when you should be sleeping. that rowing range of motion WILL destroy your lumbar region of the spine in no time from being hyper flexed and your knees will get jack hammered doing those step mill style exercises too!
sean92591 2 years ago
Clear the air: W/ just a barbell, you can do a 1 X wk / 20 min workout that'll give you all the strength, endurance, (& leanness, if diet's under control), needed to maintain an active (non-athlete) lifestyle & any related health benefits. Getting any 'fitter' than that doesn't make you any healthier, (& might actually hurt your health: ask Lance Armstrong). If a barbell's the problem-free used Chevy, the ROM is the Rolls-Royce. Cant afford it?: you dont need it. Still a good machine.
lazur1 2 years ago
I think this thing is great. I love the full body workout that it gives me in just 4 minutes a day, 4 times per week. That saves me time in my day. I need that time to go make more money to pay for my incredibly efficient and effective workout, as well as the rehab to my back and groin. BTW, the music comes with the machine. $15K is a small price to pay for confidence.

Ok, so this thing is a stair master and a rowing machine... those together should cost less than $2,000! This thing is INSANE!

BWAAA-HAAA-HAAAA-HAAAA!!!!
Cost: $0.
bosszeroboss 2 years ago
You've made the point : An untrained individual -won't get - full advantage of burpees or sprints : Due to weight, age, arthritus, old injuries, or lack of co-ordination: Many will give out in less than 10 seconds. The ROM will automatically adjust the resistance to max ability of the user for each rep over a 4 minute workout, thus: as good a workout as they can get. ROM would be the first to tell you: If you can do 1 minute sprints, you dont need ROM.
lazur1 2 years ago
This thing is a joke. Most of the exercises shes doing look awkward like they built the machine first then said hey, if you do it like this it works out your back. Youll loose more weight and increase your cardio more by simply running. The range of motion isnt going to help your strength unless your fitness is at the lower 10% of America. Also, their employees spend countless hours hyping up this machine in forums...so don't buy the hype.
HOHOHOTCAKES 2 years ago
I'm not an employee, just someone who tried, liked & cant afford ROM. I live in Chicago. 'Most of the exercises'? There are only 2 total: Full-body pull that reverses to full-body press, & a full-range step. Neither was awkward when I tried them. Running: The most injury-causing exercise, even for the fit. Running mags financed w/ads from MDs & physical therapists. Fat, sedentary middleagers running? Please."Fitness..lower 10%..', of high school students maybe : More like 50% of gen pop.

Lusst 2 years ago
when will people realize that all you need for strength training is a barbell, powerrack, and some plates.... christ.
fatcat669 2 years ago
ROM works strength -&- endurance: It's like an automatic barbell, getting lighter according to your strength: Every rep resists your hardest effort, no matter how weakened you've become from the previous rep. This allows you to truly work your hardest for 4 min. No other method does this. Thus a "better barbell", AND a "better sprint", all in 1. It ain't car insurance: Nobody makes you buy one. Might as well complain about a 3-Carat diamond ring,Mercedes V12 or Beverly Hills mansion: Luxuries.
lazur1 2 years ago
If you make self weaker on the following sets, you will never know it and might make your self weaker overall, while the machine make you think otherwise, nothing is better than gravity.
Alcidefreedom666 2 years ago
I don't understand what you mean. 1/You dont do "following sets": You do -one- four minute set per workout. 2/You -will- know what your objective effort was:The meter will register how much total work you did, & the maximum workload level you hit. 3/Exercise itself is -supposed to- make you weaker -during- the workout . It's from the rest & sleep -afterwards- that you get stronger & more muscular.
lazur1 2 years ago
ATTENTION: "depoteco' has erased my posts @ "ROM Machine Demo Video...". I noted: 1/ Danger in an exercise she invented. 2/ No accountability for reversing resistance in an exercise description. 3/ The questionable need for added exercises in the first place. 4/ The anti-ROM philosophy of her TWO 4 minute workouts BACK-TO-BACK w/a 1min break! (she revealed this in her response, also erased now). I'm pro-ROM, & wouldn't' want her inventions to reflect on the machine.
lazur1 2 years ago
The most efficent way to combine strength, flexibility,& endurance in 1 short workout. Used as designed to be used: The hardest 4 min you'll ever spend in your life. Anyone who thinks rowers or weights'll do the same thing doesn't understand reversing, accommodating resistence. There's NO OTHER WAY to get constant high-intensity effort for 4min, unless you run a 4min mile. Think of it as a Porsche: You dont need it, you cant afford it, but it's better than what you've got. Don't be jealous.

hvanriel 2 years ago
When I first saw the picture in a magazine I thought there was some way to lay down backwards on the thing, stick your arms and legs out like an upside down praying mantis, and work every muscle in your body in only four awesome minutes. Wow, the video really disillusioned me.

Get 10 dif weights, go lighter as you get tired.
lazur1 3 years ago
so.... what if I need to be hardcore for 5 min? can this help you do anything sweet performance wise? for example help me with my iron man triathlon? Its clinically impossible to burn fat at an efficient rate in 4 min, or even be considered significant cardio. I don't know what the major benefits are, but I know what it doesn't benefit. what a waste of raw materials
fagitree 2 years ago
You can work ROM as long as you wish, the ROM will continue to give effective accomodating resistance to your lessening strength, until you simply cant move anymore, if that's what you like. Try it first, then criticize if you wish. ROM wont take the place of specific skills & conditioning. No exercise will. Iron Man competitors must practice Iron Man.
lazur1 2 years ago
Doesn't look like you can do a whole lot of different exercises. Is ROM short for Really Over-priced Machine? For that price I can buy two Bowflexes and still have money for a family vacations many times over.

At first I'm sceptical but after watching few more vids I now convinced. The only problem, $14,615! 1/10 the price more reasonable.

i,ll stick to a bullworker it was a bit pricey but a tad more mobile!!!!
garytc3 3 years ago
There are full range of motion exercises you can do with dumbbells to get a full-body workout in 4 1/2 to 5 minutes. You don't need an overpriced machine to get similar results. That being said, if it was at 1/10 the price (which seems reasonable for what the machine is) I may be interested in buying one. I don't know why they charge so much for it but since they've manged to sell 4000 of them that is over $50 million in revenue, and their profit margin is probably $13000.

Don't knock it til you try it.
Individuals who work out regularly can still get a great HIIT workout from it.
ooQueso 3 years ago
So if I do this for an hour I can burn about 7000 calories? That's two pounds. Health insurance companies should be buying these for their obese clients and whipping them into shape in about 6 months. What a joke. I can't believe they have sold any.
shollo14 3 years ago
Your physiological ignorance is astounding.
ooQueso 3 years ago
True, I was doing some research unlike these other ignorant idiots who just knock it. Apparently this does work and 4 mins is actually difficult to do. And also for 4 mins a day thats awesome, you pay a little more to get from A to B faster, People could spend 150 bucks on a bike to get from LA to Vegas but some pay for an airplane whi is 300 bucks to get from A to B faster. Makes sense to me. ROM OWNS!
FatWhiteNerd 3 years ago
You pay more to get more
FatWhiteNerd 3 years ago
Haha that works when the ticket is only twice the price of the bike but this thing is 100 ($150 x 100 = 15 000) to 14x more expensive than a more conventional means. Also this machine does not work your upper lats properly and seems to force your body into sloppy form which isn't the best for the joints. You could do deadlifts and presses on the floor (bench press on the floor) with a barbell and suitable weights for even less then what I said before and get a better full bodyworkout in 4 min.
VikingJaimes 3 years ago
In order for any really improvement to your cardio you need at least 30 min. (that can mean 10 min bouts x 3. 4 min will stress your heart but not make really improve it. see my other comments if you are interested in discussion.
VikingJaimes 3 years ago
Read up on HIIT. Short bursts of intense aerobic activity yield different benefits than endurance aerobic training, but in the end, both burn calories, HIIT just does it faster.
ooQueso 3 years ago
My understanding of HIIT is that you do do short bursts of high intensity movement but you then do a period of low followed by high again and so on. Just 4 min of HIT isn't enough you need that other I. I believe HIIT stands for High Intensity Interval Training, which means you need to switch it up. Even so if this was good for HIIT for $14 615 you could buy a stretch of land in the Dominican to do 300m sprints on and a bicycle to get there.
VikingJaimes 3 years ago
If you say so, buddy.
ooQueso 3 years ago
HIIT takes longer than 4 minutes, lol. You simply can't build your heart up if you don't put in the time, since your heart cannot output any more blood once it hits 180BPM. In HIIT you're basically taking your heart to the limit, taking it back down, then taking it to the limit again. But you still need well more than 4 minutes if you want to improve your cardiovascular health.
tekdemon 3 years ago
HIIT doesn't have a set time requirement. The nature of it is to significantly elevate your heart rate to levels you simply can't sustain for more than seconds. 4 minutes is more than enough for 95% of Americans to improve their conditioning. I do concede that at a certain point you will need to begin adding time to your ROM workout if you want more progress. A consistent 4 minutes a day is enough to bring a person to and then maintain above average physical condition.
ooQueso 3 years ago
4min is plenty if you do it right (look up Tabata method). However this equipment is a useless piece of crap. The forced range of motion on the rowing aspect is TERRIBLE and totally out of line. What is the point of stupid stairmaster, just go run 400M repeats. God what a joke, hopefully no one buys this.
grambo22 3 years ago 2
4 minutes might burn a few calories but it will absolutely not be a real cardiovascular workout. A human heart cannot pump more than 180 beats per minute without starting to pump LESS blood, so no matter how hard you work out you can only work your heart out so much. The ONLY way to improve cardio function is to keep it at a high level of both heart rate and contraction strength for an extended period of time, which is definitely NOT 4 minutes.
tekdemon 3 years ago
Just search "tabata t-nation" on google and click the first link.
