Pisses me off that for over half a decade Crystal Dynamics has been forced to chug out Tomb Raider games instead of finish up the Legacy of Kain storyline. Seriously are Tomb Raider games selling so much that Eidos and Square-Enix can't think of anything else for them to do?
Now the bitch is getting another Reboot with Tomb Raider 2012, didn't we reboot her in 2006 with Tomb Raider Legend?

Wait. I remembered something. Kain drank from a blood fountain in Blood Omen which made him immune to the effects of rain and snow. Rahab and his blood line inherited this immunity to water, and thanks o his accelerated evolution (a result of Kain's corruption, a gift from Nupraptor) he can swim all day long. Plus there is also the fact that they can wash themselves with medicinal alcohol. Oh, and don't forget "that" image :3.
@flamesdemon19 But I did, I still have the saves on my Dreamcast VMU, except for Angel of Darkness but I beat that game aswell.

i hope there gonna make another lok game ore and the end game final conclusion, although if u have to oversee the total story of kain janos and the vampire race and how the hylden war came to be,would it realy fit al in 1 game,i mean if u put the compleet history on a blueprint its damn mutch,we stil need a ful update on how the vampires where and what the hylden execly did that made the vampires lust fore blood they didnt always,i been there a big? stil, but kain should always be a main charc
this game undertook so much for it to be just based in five parts.. such a story line with enough depth to put any lore to shame... I so wish that they do go ahead and explain all the loose ends in the game
The events of BO2 are the result of the paradox created in SR2. If raziel would have entered the sword then, the events of BO2 would never have happened, and they didnt before that paradox was created. The fact that raziel didnt enter the reaver at that time allowed for the creation of the spirit reaver that clensed Kain (note that when raziel entered the reaver it became the soul reaver and the spirit part clensed Kain) The arming of the younger kain with the soul reaver is yet to be played out
Just to continue....the final chapter would have to show the arming of the younger kain with the Soul reaver. We know that the younger kain finds the soul reaver, but we never know why it is there. It is easy to assume that the older kain, knowing where and more importantly WHEN his younger self finds the soul reaver, places it there for him. That done and now clensed he can go back to his own time to do what the balance guardian does, clense the pillars and restore balance.
its all kains fault if he'd have sacrificed himself none of this would have happened. although the games kick ass so i guess we should all thank him lol
On the other hand if he had sacrificed himself, it would have ensured the extinction of vampires forever, leaving the pillars in the hands of the humans, thus allowing the Hylden to escape, which would have been far more disastrous.
yeah i guess so, i always just feel sorry for Raziel being caught in the grand scheme of things especially since he has his wings torn out, his family killed (thats a point why does kain kill raziels clan :S) and then thrown into the abyss and pushed to the brink of madness by the pain...i thought my week was bad Lol
As far as the 'killing off Raziel's clan' part is concerned, it's been pretty much established that the spawn of each one of Kain's lieutenants take on the traits and abilities of their masters...i.e., Melchiah's fragile body, Rahab's immunity to water, etc. So, with that in mind, the common theory is that Raziel's clan, like Raziel himself, began to grow wings and, because of that, Kain felt the need to wipe them out, probably out of the same jealousy that made him rip out Raziel's wings.
The point was, while humans were guardians, the seal on the Hylden decayed since humans were never meant to be Guardians which allowed them access back into Nosgoth, where they possessed Mortanius and killed Ariel. But if all the vampires were killed the seal would also break since they created the Pillars. Thus was Kain's dilemma that the Hylden engineered. No matter which choice he made, the Hylden would break free.
also, In blood omen one, if kain would of sacrificed himself that would of been the end of all vampires and the hylden would of won. This was their original plan, but kain knowing that he was the last vampire knew this and refused the sacrifice.
An interesting thing to do is listen to the Defiance introduction and the Epilogue back to back. Kain is arrogant and self-justifying in the introduction, but just sounds so tired in the epilogue!
this is the best videogame series to ever have been made in the history of mankind. Ive not seen any other game that comes close. To bad it never got any real recognition what a shame.
the story would have ended in SR1, where Raziel would have killed Kain and thus obtained the Amplified Reaver, which he would have used to gain access to a part of the silenced cathedral to play an... instrument wich would kill all the remaining vampires, plus, he would also have killed Vampire Turel, and you could have played in Turel's clan area, which doesn't exist at all in the actual SR1.
I am noticing misconceptions among fans here. Both SR2 and Defiance in particular are the reason BO2 happens at all. So its first BO1, then SR1. SR2 and Defiance change everything; and thus after that BO2 was made possible.
but even the developers aren't certain if BO2 is part of the altered time line or just non-canon since it was made by a different team and have a few inconsistencies (for a change).
I love this series even if the story gets all patched with each new game
You fools... Blood Omen 2 happens before Raziel is even born as a vampire. It's a retracing of the steps that lead up to Soul Reavers 1 & 2 (and, then, Defiance) that was necessary because of the history-rewriting-paradox introduced at the end of Soul Reaver 2.
Blood Omen 2 can't possibly happen until after Defiance, however - Janos Audron is in the hands of the Hylden, which is how Defiance ends, and at the end, Janos is cast into the demon dimension (along with the Hylden Lord). If this happened before SR1 / SR2, Janos would not have been around for Raziel to talk to in either instance, nor would he have been around for the Hylden Lord to possess and effectively capture in the end of Defiance.
You forget that when Raziel meets Janos, it's nearly a generation before BO1...the only thing in BO2 that doesn't make sense is Vorador but it's been thought that Kain brought him back somehow...but hopefully if they make a new game *hopes* they'll explain how Vorador comes back after getting his head lobbed off by Moebius' followers.
perhaps when you reright time in both Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance you alter it so Vorador never died. or perhaps it is simply some pretending to be vorador
Its a timeline limit, i may say..it's because the storywriters of the game never have laid all the information necessary to decipher the complete turn of events. The most practical answer to that is business wise - in order for them to create a new game where they'll lay down other debatable infos.
I think it was more like in SR1, SR2, Defiance and probably the others had the issue that the dev team ran out of time so they had to remove some content and even leave the end with some sort of cliff hangers.
For what I've read it seems that they never planed to have 5 games in the first place and even end the story since SR1 where Raziel would have killed Kain. Of course I wish they'd continue the story.
Kain is unique in that he can breath his soul into a vessel to bring it life. That's how he makes vampires, and is likely a similar method was used to resurrect Vorador
Well, I think the introduction of BO2 has nothing to do with the events of LOK: Defiance. It's a totally new scenario as Soul Reaver 2 taking effect. What I'm saying is that, LOK Defiance is a summation of events being told covering the events in BO1, SR1&2 including never before unraveled facts and events.Let's just say, BO2 does not follow the entire LOK series, but grammatically in the side of the crteators is simply introducing a paradox which is BO2.
BO2 is really an "optional" part of the series. It shows what happens after BO1 due to the effects of SR2. By Kain ripping Raziel from the blade Raziel was able to last long enough to revive Janos (which would allow him to be possessed, an event of BO2). It was not really necessary for it, but explained why Kain had to prevent Raziel from reviving Janos. It was simply there for a filler in the storyline.
You have it wrong. First BO2 never happens. However via SR2, you get Kain shocked because now the Hylden had broken free. But it doesn't matter as in BO2 Kain defeats the Hylden anyway. Defiance was indeed very important to the plot of BO2 as without Janos being resurrected in this game, the Hylden would never have made it out in the first place
BO2 is NOT a filler in the storyline, Jesus Christ!! It introduces the Hylden into the story and, as you said, explains why Kain has to stop Raziel from reviving Janos in Defiance. So, you MUST play BO2 in order to understand Kain's objectives in Defiance, but he fails in accomplish them. BO2's events become facts after SR2's ending, it's not an "optional part of the series".
The Hylden have been around since Blood Omen. Regardless Blood Omen 2 has a lot of events that really don't make sense in any of the timelines in the series because it was made by a different team who didn't bother to do the research. The storyline of the series makes just as much (possibly more) sense without it.
@DiscoBoy001 sorry but you're so wrong :P after the ending of SR2 the events in BO2 DID happen and they DOES make sense in the rest of the story. let me put it this way: at the end of SR2 Kain's memories from his past are replaced by new memories after he saves Raziel from the Reaver, with the knowledge of the Hylden's plans. he didn't know how their plans set in motion, all he knew is they used Janos to do so, so he needed to stop Raziel from resurrect Janos. (continue in the next comment xP)
@zarlieck (continuing...) in Defiance, the Hylden set up in motion their plan; Kain fails in stopping the Hylden from using Raziel and Janos, so the events from BO2 are going to happen imminently, but there were also a historical change: Kain is now free from corruption so he can claim his rol as Scion and Guardian of Balance, and now he's able to: 1) restore the pillars without dying, 2) prevent the rise of the Hylden and the events form BO2 and 3) defeat the Elder God once and for all
@zarlieck (concluding) so BO2 events ARE PRODUCT of SR2's and Defiance's ending, you can't ignore the fact that they are going to happen, as for Kain already and lived them and saw them in his "new" memories
(man, thank you, i mean it, discussing about LoK really makes my day, it's been so long since i did it! :'D)
SR2's ending unleashes the events of BO2. Kain said it quite clear after saving Raziel from the Reaver: "The Hylden! We walked right into their trap! Raziel, Janos must stay dead!". At this point, Kain with his new memories knew what was going to happen if Raziel revives Janos. In Defiance, Kain's first objective is to prevent Raziel from revive Janos and the events of BO2, but he couldn't, Raziel revives Janos and the Hylden Lord takes control of him. But the origin of BO2 is the SR2's ending.
It's true that BO2, timeline wise, falls after BO1 and before SR1 / SR2 - but it's events are not made possible until after Defiance (which ends, timeline-wise, after BO1 and before SR1 / SR2).
This is confusing but I think Joudas is right. Is there a word for these rewriten chronologies? Iteration, maybe? BO2 is in a later iterration of Nosgoth history than Defiance, but it is historicly before Defiance in that iteration. Also BO2 was not developed by the Amy Henning team. They had to bend Defiance to smooth out BO2 contradictions. It could just be ignored like fanfiction. Aww, I'm perplexed.
Everyone here is right in some way. Joudas is right that the events in BO2 could not have happened if not for Defiance, what with Janos and the Hylden Lord, BUT BO2 DOES follow the events of the younger Kain, it just happens that what was caused by Raziel and the older Kain in Defiance, effects the events that happen to his past self. At least as far I can make out having played them.
I rather believe the version Wikipedia laid about the chronologies. I believe as well that the paradox which is the basis for the creation of BO2 was due to the events in SR2. Cause and effect as it may be..LOk Defiance represents a complete scenario over events that happened in relation to those of Blood Omen 1 & Soul Reavers 1&2 scenario. I too has many questions to know..it's true that the creators had some info still needing to be unfold.
If you're referring to BO2 (because Blood Omen 1 is quite obviously the first), it's described as featuring a "young Kain", but chronologically, it can't have happened until after Defiance - in Defiance, the Hylden Lord returns and Janos is resurrected, Hylden Lord possesses him, and escapes with his body. This enables the events of BO2, which begins with the Hylden Lord (known as the Sarafan Lord, there) defeats Kain in battle.
Kain's monologues on fate are always great. This was a grand game; a brilliant climax to the Soul Reaver trilogy which just so happens to be one of the finest trilogies I've ever encountered.
It's actually a 5-game series, not 3! Blood Omen 1 -> Soul Reaver 1 -> Soul Reaver 2 -> Defiance -> Blood Omen 2. (BO2 was made before Defiance, but its events follow Defiance on the timeline.)
Like I said - I meant the Soul Reaver trilogy not the entire Legacy of Kain series. Defiance is the 'meeting' of the two series that make up the Legacy of Kain. Blood Omen could continue but after Defiance, Soul Reaver has met its crescendo.
Actually you are both right. They are, for a fact, five in the whole series but I think Headhanger means that Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance all hangs together as for Blood Omen's and Blood Omen 2's stories stands alone. More exactly; SR, SR2 and Defiance are a trilogy but BO and BO2 are seperate stories.
for al the altering event and al the thinking and headache giving moment the end solution might be verry simple to the story ones it unravels

The events of BO2 are the result of the paradox created in SR2. If raziel would have entered the sword then, the events of BO2 would never have happened, and they didnt before that paradox was created. The fact that raziel didnt enter the reaver at that time allowed for the creation of the spirit reaver that clensed Kain (note that when raziel entered the reaver it became the soul reaver and the spirit part clensed Kain) The arming of the younger kain with the soul reaver is yet to be played out
JJBinks1984 3 years ago
Just to continue....the final chapter would have to show the arming of the younger kain with the Soul reaver. We know that the younger kain finds the soul reaver, but we never know why it is there. It is easy to assume that the older kain, knowing where and more importantly WHEN his younger self finds the soul reaver, places it there for him. That done and now clensed he can go back to his own time to do what the balance guardian does, clense the pillars and restore balance.
JJBinks1984 3 years ago
its all kains fault if he'd have sacrificed himself none of this would have happened. although the games kick ass so i guess we should all thank him lol
Cloud6556 3 years ago
On the other hand if he had sacrificed himself, it would have ensured the extinction of vampires forever, leaving the pillars in the hands of the humans, thus allowing the Hylden to escape, which would have been far more disastrous.
Joudas 3 years ago 18
yeah i guess so, i always just feel sorry for Raziel being caught in the grand scheme of things especially since he has his wings torn out, his family killed (thats a point why does kain kill raziels clan :S) and then thrown into the abyss and pushed to the brink of madness by the pain...i thought my week was bad Lol
Cloud6556 3 years ago
As far as the 'killing off Raziel's clan' part is concerned, it's been pretty much established that the spawn of each one of Kain's lieutenants take on the traits and abilities of their masters...i.e., Melchiah's fragile body, Rahab's immunity to water, etc. So, with that in mind, the common theory is that Raziel's clan, like Raziel himself, began to grow wings and, because of that, Kain felt the need to wipe them out, probably out of the same jealousy that made him rip out Raziel's wings.

i think that whole humans suck as guardians thing is crap. Everything was fine till Ariel died . she was a good guardian
hatesonions 3 years ago
You've never seen Janus Audron have you?
solesurvivor5 3 years ago 2
The point was, while humans were guardians, the seal on the Hylden decayed since humans were never meant to be Guardians which allowed them access back into Nosgoth, where they possessed Mortanius and killed Ariel. But if all the vampires were killed the seal would also break since they created the Pillars. Thus was Kain's dilemma that the Hylden engineered. No matter which choice he made, the Hylden would break free.
returnofyesman 2 years ago
also, In blood omen one, if kain would of sacrificed himself that would of been the end of all vampires and the hylden would of won. This was their original plan, but kain knowing that he was the last vampire knew this and refused the sacrifice.

the story would have ended in SR1, where Raziel would have killed Kain and thus obtained the Amplified Reaver, which he would have used to gain access to a part of the silenced cathedral to play an... instrument wich would kill all the remaining vampires, plus, he would also have killed Vampire Turel, and you could have played in Turel's clan area, which doesn't exist at all in the actual SR1.
Thanks...

I am noticing misconceptions among fans here. Both SR2 and Defiance in particular are the reason BO2 happens at all. So its first BO1, then SR1. SR2 and Defiance change everything; and thus after that BO2 was made possible.
koroigetsuga 3 years ago 4
yeah, sort of...
but even the developers aren't certain if BO2 is part of the altered time line or just non-canon since it was made by a different team and have a few inconsistencies (for a change).
I love this series even if the story gets all patched with each new game

blood omen two is possible because of a paradox that occurs in soul reaver 2
genesismindworks 5 years ago
x-box or ps2?
Gyperos 5 years ago
You fools... Blood Omen 2 happens before Raziel is even born as a vampire. It's a retracing of the steps that lead up to Soul Reavers 1 & 2 (and, then, Defiance) that was necessary because of the history-rewriting-paradox introduced at the end of Soul Reaver 2.
BlightyLume 5 years ago
Blood Omen 2 can't possibly happen until after Defiance, however - Janos Audron is in the hands of the Hylden, which is how Defiance ends, and at the end, Janos is cast into the demon dimension (along with the Hylden Lord). If this happened before SR1 / SR2, Janos would not have been around for Raziel to talk to in either instance, nor would he have been around for the Hylden Lord to possess and effectively capture in the end of Defiance.
Joudas 5 years ago
You forget that when Raziel meets Janos, it's nearly a generation before BO1...the only thing in BO2 that doesn't make sense is Vorador but it's been thought that Kain brought him back somehow...but hopefully if they make a new game *hopes* they'll explain how Vorador comes back after getting his head lobbed off by Moebius' followers.
desolatesoul87 5 years ago
perhaps when you reright time in both Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance you alter it so Vorador never died. or perhaps it is simply some pretending to be vorador
Slixer 5 years ago
Its a timeline limit, i may say..it's because the storywriters of the game never have laid all the information necessary to decipher the complete turn of events. The most practical answer to that is business wise - in order for them to create a new game where they'll lay down other debatable infos.
0uroborosblade24 3 years ago
I think it was more like in SR1, SR2, Defiance and probably the others had the issue that the dev team ran out of time so they had to remove some content and even leave the end with some sort of cliff hangers.
For what I've read it seems that they never planed to have 5 games in the first place and even end the story since SR1 where Raziel would have killed Kain. Of course I wish they'd continue the story.
grimlock047 3 years ago
Vorador does indeed die. In BO2 Kain had resurrected him to help him restart the vampire race, but that scene never made it into the final product
koroigetsuga 3 years ago
If I remember correctly unless Moebius burned Voradors body all Kain would have to do is reattach his head and he would come back to life.
Orois 3 years ago
Kain is unique in that he can breath his soul into a vessel to bring it life. That's how he makes vampires, and is likely a similar method was used to resurrect Vorador
koroigetsuga 3 years ago
Well, I think the introduction of BO2 has nothing to do with the events of LOK: Defiance. It's a totally new scenario as Soul Reaver 2 taking effect. What I'm saying is that, LOK Defiance is a summation of events being told covering the events in BO1, SR1&2 including never before unraveled facts and events.Let's just say, BO2 does not follow the entire LOK series, but grammatically in the side of the crteators is simply introducing a paradox which is BO2.
0uroborosblade24 3 years ago
BO2 is really an "optional" part of the series. It shows what happens after BO1 due to the effects of SR2. By Kain ripping Raziel from the blade Raziel was able to last long enough to revive Janos (which would allow him to be possessed, an event of BO2). It was not really necessary for it, but explained why Kain had to prevent Raziel from reviving Janos. It was simply there for a filler in the storyline.
RednessAlpha 3 years ago
Well,that make sense..hehe,now I see..
0uroborosblade24 3 years ago
You have it wrong. First BO2 never happens. However via SR2, you get Kain shocked because now the Hylden had broken free. But it doesn't matter as in BO2 Kain defeats the Hylden anyway. Defiance was indeed very important to the plot of BO2 as without Janos being resurrected in this game, the Hylden would never have made it out in the first place
koroigetsuga 3 years ago
BO2 is NOT a filler in the storyline, Jesus Christ!! It introduces the Hylden into the story and, as you said, explains why Kain has to stop Raziel from reviving Janos in Defiance. So, you MUST play BO2 in order to understand Kain's objectives in Defiance, but he fails in accomplish them. BO2's events become facts after SR2's ending, it's not an "optional part of the series".
zarlieck 2 years ago
Actually, I've never played BO2 or Defiance, but I know his objective.
encrosby 2 years ago
@zarlieck
The Hylden have been around since Blood Omen. Regardless Blood Omen 2 has a lot of events that really don't make sense in any of the timelines in the series because it was made by a different team who didn't bother to do the research. The storyline of the series makes just as much (possibly more) sense without it.
DiscoBoy001 1 year ago
@DiscoBoy001 sorry but you're so wrong :P after the ending of SR2 the events in BO2 DID happen and they DOES make sense in the rest of the story. let me put it this way: at the end of SR2 Kain's memories from his past are replaced by new memories after he saves Raziel from the Reaver, with the knowledge of the Hylden's plans. he didn't know how their plans set in motion, all he knew is they used Janos to do so, so he needed to stop Raziel from resurrect Janos. (continue in the next comment xP)
zarlieck 1 year ago
@zarlieck (continuing...) in Defiance, the Hylden set up in motion their plan; Kain fails in stopping the Hylden from using Raziel and Janos, so the events from BO2 are going to happen imminently, but there were also a historical change: Kain is now free from corruption so he can claim his rol as Scion and Guardian of Balance, and now he's able to: 1) restore the pillars without dying, 2) prevent the rise of the Hylden and the events form BO2 and 3) defeat the Elder God once and for all
zarlieck 1 year ago
@zarlieck (concluding) so BO2 events ARE PRODUCT of SR2's and Defiance's ending, you can't ignore the fact that they are going to happen, as for Kain already and lived them and saw them in his "new" memories
(man, thank you, i mean it, discussing about LoK really makes my day, it's been so long since i did it! :'D)
zarlieck 1 year ago
SR2's ending unleashes the events of BO2. Kain said it quite clear after saving Raziel from the Reaver: "The Hylden! We walked right into their trap! Raziel, Janos must stay dead!". At this point, Kain with his new memories knew what was going to happen if Raziel revives Janos. In Defiance, Kain's first objective is to prevent Raziel from revive Janos and the events of BO2, but he couldn't, Raziel revives Janos and the Hylden Lord takes control of him. But the origin of BO2 is the SR2's ending.
zarlieck 2 years ago
It's true that BO2, timeline wise, falls after BO1 and before SR1 / SR2 - but it's events are not made possible until after Defiance (which ends, timeline-wise, after BO1 and before SR1 / SR2).
Joudas 5 years ago
This is confusing but I think Joudas is right. Is there a word for these rewriten chronologies? Iteration, maybe? BO2 is in a later iterration of Nosgoth history than Defiance, but it is historicly before Defiance in that iteration. Also BO2 was not developed by the Amy Henning team. They had to bend Defiance to smooth out BO2 contradictions. It could just be ignored like fanfiction. Aww, I'm perplexed.
NemoPawn 5 years ago
Everyone here is right in some way. Joudas is right that the events in BO2 could not have happened if not for Defiance, what with Janos and the Hylden Lord, BUT BO2 DOES follow the events of the younger Kain, it just happens that what was caused by Raziel and the older Kain in Defiance, effects the events that happen to his past self. At least as far I can make out having played them.
DarSerena67 4 years ago 2
I rather believe the version Wikipedia laid about the chronologies. I believe as well that the paradox which is the basis for the creation of BO2 was due to the events in SR2. Cause and effect as it may be..LOk Defiance represents a complete scenario over events that happened in relation to those of Blood Omen 1 & Soul Reavers 1&2 scenario. I too has many questions to know..it's true that the creators had some info still needing to be unfold.

Blood Omen is the past of Kain .. it's ovious cuz he looks a lot younger ..
Darky111 5 years ago
If you're referring to BO2 (because Blood Omen 1 is quite obviously the first), it's described as featuring a "young Kain", but chronologically, it can't have happened until after Defiance - in Defiance, the Hylden Lord returns and Janos is resurrected, Hylden Lord possesses him, and escapes with his body. This enables the events of BO2, which begins with the Hylden Lord (known as the Sarafan Lord, there) defeats Kain in battle.
Joudas 5 years ago
Kain's monologues on fate are always great. This was a grand game; a brilliant climax to the Soul Reaver trilogy which just so happens to be one of the finest trilogies I've ever encountered.
Headhanger 5 years ago
It's actually a 5-game series, not 3! Blood Omen 1 -> Soul Reaver 1 -> Soul Reaver 2 -> Defiance -> Blood Omen 2. (BO2 was made before Defiance, but its events follow Defiance on the timeline.)
Joudas 5 years ago
Like I said - I meant the Soul Reaver trilogy not the entire Legacy of Kain series. Defiance is the 'meeting' of the two series that make up the Legacy of Kain. Blood Omen could continue but after Defiance, Soul Reaver has met its crescendo.
Headhanger 5 years ago
Actually you are both right. They are, for a fact, five in the whole series but I think Headhanger means that Soul Reaver, Soul Reaver 2 and Defiance all hangs together as for Blood Omen's and Blood Omen 2's stories stands alone. More exactly; SR, SR2 and Defiance are a trilogy but BO and BO2 are seperate stories.
