  • it is simple people this horse has it's ears back because it is completely cued in on what the "alpha" is telling it to do. this horse is not angry or scared, it is simply listening and trying to please it's leader, the person.

  • this guy is amazing! he does great work with horses!

  • The bond between him and his horse is ABSOLUTELY amazing. The horse is treating him like a friend playing in the field. The whip is used as an extension of his arm not as a weapon which is perfect. The horse never takes his eyes off of him even with everyone clapping. They both have so much respect for each other. ABSOLUTELY AMAZING.

  • Animal cruelty?! Rubbish! Do you think that horse would perform so well if the person was being cruel? Of course not!! Gosh, think before you type...

  • wow :D

  • WAHNSINN :)

  • as far as his tail swishing, you don't know if there are flys on him. maybe even one. there was a fly on my horse and it drove him nuts. also horses do that sometimes when they are paying CLOSE attention to what they are doing. wild horses swish their tales 24/7 when they run and they're happy! then their ears are back a little when they are listening. when their ears are forward all the way they aren't listening to a THING you say. they aren't cruel by using whips either (not if they don't hurt

  • @8664tonimarie Horses tail swish at annoyance, to push other horses away, at annoyance at flies, and also with people, look at the entire picture, ears, front, back, tail, yes he's annoyed.

  • ppl need to understand that everyone has their own oppinion on things. just because someone has a different oppinion doesn't mean you can chew them out. knock it off with the rude comments and nasty remarks. you don't have to agree because if everyone agreed on everything there'd be a problem. everyone has their own oppinion about EVERYTHING. (that's why it's called oppinion and not fact) stop being so mean because you NEVER know if it's some third grader commenting on something they think

  • This horse loves his owner!

    see u

    Tifa Nazah

  • It's great to have a video registration of Honza's performance, thank you for that! I don't always agree with the methods he uses to train his horses, but he is a big inspiration when it comes to training dressage at liberty, so it's very nice to have a good video like this that I can watch every now and then. Thanks!

  • hmmm.... i really don't like this.... why bring a horse in to all that noise, the horse doesn't seem calm at all, can't you people feel that in your stomach when you're watching this?! take a look at klaus ferdinand hempfling instead! he is really something...

  • @lskfls This horse looks happy to be doing what he is doing, he is calm actually, if he wasn't he wouldn't be "Keying" To his trainer. They also "leave" Which means "Run away" If they get stressed, unnerved and look to their owner or just plain run away for security.

  • omg i love this its soooo cute and the horse is sooo pretty

  • what a beautiful horse! :)

  • For everyone asking about the breed, Gaston is Czech Warmblood.

  • My horse picks up the whip and chases me around with it. Around our place we call those ears"I love you ears." He is an Andalusian cross and will pick up my hat (being naughty) and do the big fancy trot thing in little circles around me. I was up in Colorado and asked some people how to get him to do that while I'm riding him. They said, "Give him your hat!"

  • @janeinthemtns thats very cute :P

  • Similar methods in training movie horses are used where the trainer stands out of camera shot and raises his-her whip to make horse rear , spin.nod etc.

Working with the horses mind and using body language to comunicate....Majical to watch.

BTW check out the crest on that little fatty..

  • wow! Amazing!

  • If he was unhappy, wouldnt he just run away? there is no way he would trust and listen to this guy if he didnt respect and love him. Hes going on the bit when there is no bit!!! that is the horses choice, and he wouldnt do that if he wasnt happy. And most riders use a whip or a crop anyway! he is not thrashing the horse, just giving him the aids.

  • What kind of horse is this?

  • thats verry good there is nothing wrong with a whip like the chick said below its just like an extention of your arms would love to acheve this one day with a horse its actualy excitement when a horse flicks its tail its ears are back because its listning to the man dont u nothice that when yr on a horses back and u go for a canter its got its ears pricked back listning to you

  • wow :O amazing!

  • even if he was using a whip, he uses them as an extension of his arm, not to hit the horse. :)

  • How do you teach your horse to do this !

  • @Eye4Photography92 LOVE LANGUAGE AND LEADERSHIP!

  • @miazhorsecrazy Of course ! I just need to know where to start !

  • @Eye4Photography92 Easy, Study either Klaus Ferdinand Hempling ( on you tube as well) or Dennis Reis. Our horses come into the house, lay down and watch TV with us, follow us on trail hikes without leads or halters and will dance with us and even take the lead. Its not magic, its understanding and taking the time to learn their language and use it. Mine will round up other horses or animals by asking her to do it for me, Try using Mustangs for teh fastest result.

  • Wow!

  • thats amazing

  • I wish I could reach this with a horse once :D

  • absolutely beautiful. that horse is stunning and having the time of his life. i bet if he could smile he would.

  • This man is amazing! I would LOVE to have a bond like this with my horse. There is no way any cruelty could be involved here, that horse is working purely of his own free will. Absolutely beautiful.

  • That is so cool. You can tell that the horses is having fun too.

  • What a special bond these two have:)!

  • OMG! That's awesome

  • it's so amazing!

and that horse really like to do it! ;D

i really have respect for both of them! n.n

  • zo geweldig om te zien hoeveel plezier het paard er in heeft!

  • Thank you for sharing. Lovely.

  • i love i!!

  • i like the 4th coment he or she is nice to he or she,s horse

  • That is very impressive! Loved it!

  • In relation to my previous comment, I'm not saying the man is hitting the horse or mistreating the horse in any way. I don't know the full circumstances, I'm just giving my opinion. And my opinion is, that in this video, in this performance, the horse doesn't look entirely happy. And as I said before, It's probably just the music, crowd, lighting, whatever. The horse might be completely relaxed at home doing this kindof thing. Sorry if I offended anyone...just my opinion :)

  • @Horseylover118 So I understand and I agree by the fact of he isn't relaxed. But music is very loudly (and only comment your post because you speak english better than me!! lol! ^^)

  • @michella1994

exactly, the whip is only used as a direction, not for punishment or what ever!

If you do, you're nothing more than a pathetic little hypocriet

  • a horse's natural instinct is to run away, and if this horse was not happy, he would do exactly that. horses already know how to do everything that us humans make them do, the only challenge we have is showing them and giving them command how to do it.

i think when a person succeds to do this with their horse, they are very talented.

  • Hes not hitting this horse at all hes giving it commands with his whip but not hitting it. The horse is playing a long with him. My horse used to do the same and I NEVER used a whip or made her unhappy.

Gosh, why do people make such a scene?

  • I have to say I don't think this is a happy horse at all. Sure, it may just be the atmosphere or crowd, but whatever is wrong, the horse just isn't happy. It's almost like the horse is completely dominated by those crops, he's angry and stressed if you ask me. Not 'at liberty'. Sorry, but it's just my opinion.

  • i agree!

the guy's in total control here and i thought parelli was a way to teach the horse where you work 'together'.

maybe im wrong? this video is just a guy getting a horse to do tricks, it reminds me of a circus! i realy like parelli and agree with it totaly but this video is just...wrong i think. its not 'natural' at all i mean who's ever seen a horse doing this a field! id be pretty amazed if my horse did!

  • This is not a happy horse. His tail is swishing like crazy...his ears are back...he's totally dominated by this guy...and what is the point? To show a horse doing things that aren't really natural? A happy horse has a relaxed tail (watch some top notch dressage) A happy horse has forward ears. This guy's ears are back most of the time. Just my opinion.

  • My horse does this too when he's concentrated

  • the ears are back, yes, but it dosent always mean that the horse is unhappy, its listening to this guy. when the horse have its ears forward, it means that its curios (or happy) . I think, that if the horse didnt want to do this, he wouldnt.

  • I agree with some things you said, but if you look at 0:23 you can see that the horse's ears are actually sideways, not back. The horse is just listening to the handler.

The horse also might be irritated by the music/atmosphere.

  • have you ever seen horses play? even when they are playing with each other, their ears are back! and a swishing tail shows tension or excitemant, that doesn't need to be bad! but it honours you to watch the horse that accurate!

  • @vickiesampson have u looked at videos of guy mclean ive seen him train and its not cruel at all some people can hit there horses untill they do this but this horse is clearly happy

  • @vickiesampson hahha you think dressage horses are CALM! What about the harsh bits, hours of unneeded stall time, fancy frilly things a horse doesnt need? What about the harsh, "dominating" methods dressgae riders use? This horse is showing its true nature, of which most "top notch" rich freaks cannot comprehend or control.

  • @Cass7422 dont generalize dressage riders, almost all of the dressage riders that i know (and i know alot) are penniless because they spend their money trying the best they know how to take care of their horses! my dressage friends do liberty work with their horses much like this man, give them turnout, and base their training on mutual respect and trust, not dominance. It is easy to generalize the people and horses of disciplines different from your own, but please dont.

  • @Cass7422 are you freaking kidding me?? you clearly have no idea what you're talking about, dressage horses are perfectly happy and calm (at least with the right dressage rider). UGH, i hate people like you who just assume the wrong things, in areas they know nothing about. read a book.

  • @vickiesampson you're an idiot, thats my opinion. if you knew anything you would know that not even dressage horses have their ears forward, the best of them have their ears slightly back to show their relaxed. if their ears were forward it would just show their concentrating on something else and in some cases anxious.

  • that was so lovely go on you what a team good work

  • Awesome performance! What a beautiful boy he is :) May I ask what breed?

  • It is a Czech Warmblood of not very typical exterier :)

  • Very nice! It is such a treat to see a horse perform in this way, knowing that he was taught using gentle and patient methods.

  • You can really see that the horse is loving performing and is listening to all of the instructions his owner is telling him to do ^^ they must have a great bond!

    5/5

  • i'm with julemmie

I'm teaching my horse to do stuff like that but a bit under the level of the video just the basics for now. And i NEVER hit my horse if he does it wrong. People who do that are impesient if you ask me.

  • hitting a horse ruins their confidence and consequently they are scared to try new things. good for you!

  • to teach your horse stuff like that you don't have to beat it?! i'm teaching my little shetland pony to do stuff like that to he does it on signs and i NEVER beat my little boy. Cupid really workes hard to do tricks and he gets treats when he does it really well but NEVER really NEVER do i hit my horse

  • I say this horse is just a big "ham" and loves the applause. Not to take away from the skill required to "teach" the big goof these responses, but I think showing-off is just his nature.

  • for those of you who support parelli, that is awesome. but that doesn't necessarily mean that people who DON't do parelli 'beat' their horses. i ahve personally done parelli and found it was good but it wasn't for me. i ahve gone back to my english/western background and i do NOT 'beat' my horses. i don't even use a crop or spurs, they get a regular bridle with a gentle snaffle bit. that's only IF i ride with one. usually it's bareback with the parelli halter. so please, don't hate.

  • Comment removed

  • Just shows that you dont need a 17hh warmblood with a pelum and spurs to do something beautiful.

People have forgot that dressage is suppose to show the bond and partnership between horse and rider show achive such beautiful paces. But it has now turned into using harsh gadgets to MAKE the horse look pretty, with help from pain.

  • Double bridle (weymouth + bradoon) not pelham. lol. Dressage always had doubles and spurs (part of the dress crode). Not all dressage riders are like that though, its only some that make a horrible name for it, and people are starting to think its cruel. :(

  • Impressing training of that horse! :)

  • beautiful horseeeeeee! what breed ? reply me

  • Cesky teplokrevník =D Czech "heatblooder" =)

  • It looks like a haflinger.

  • Looks like a kinda welsh?

  • Gorgeous horse. Fantastic.

  • That's a pretty nice show with a beautiful horse. My only complaint is that the horse crowds the guy after each 'act' as if he's trying to be a lap-horse...I prefer my horses respect my personal space.

  • absolutly amazing!!!!

  • It may not seem natural, but dressage is based on moves that the horse would naturally perform in the wild. It would be far more cruel if the horse didn't receive any interaction or exercise or if the horse was bored because he didn't have a job to do. Everything about the posture and expression of this horse says that he is listening to his handler and is not frightened. The horse is also in great shape; he has great muscle tone and balance, which is required for dressage.

  • Amazing <3

    PS its not cruel!

    The horse is enjoying it!

You can see this in the way he points his ears FORWARD in happiness in parts of the video. Other times he's just hearing the crowd

  • what breed is that horse? hes gorgeous

  • That horses ears don't "point back for most of the scene" . They are in constant motion. That is the way horses hear. Their ears even move independently to gain better information about their surroundings. His ears are moving in response to the crowd noise and to the gentle tapping prompts from his handler. When they are scared they really flatten back to the scull, and the whites of their eyes show. For those who can really read horse body language, we can see he loves what he is doing.

  • This horse IS NOT HAPPY this is pure cruelty, if you watch the horse you will see that its ears point back for most of this scene - a common sign that a horse is frightened and scared, if the owner has such a great coinnection with this horse he would not need to use whips as a 'threat' anyone who supports this video is supporting animal cruelty. It truly disgusts me.

  • You don't know much about horses do you! He is tapping that horse not whipping him. You can tell he likes working with his handler. Those ears are constantly moving. An upset horse has a very different look and demeanor. If he didn't want to listen he just wouldn't do what was asked of him , and the handler wouldn't have him out there. Please be more informed and stop being blindly rabid about animal training. There are bad trianers out there , but this isn't one of them.

  • @Ansemom Very well said..

  • you have NO IDEA what you are talking about!! its ears are back as it is listening to the man, this is commonly called 'locking on'. the horse is not scared!! and the whips are not being used as a threat they are merely an extension of the arm and are used to give the horse the aids he is not touching the horse with them and never would. Your claim that this is animal cruelty is complete rubbish!!! get your facts straight you clearly know nothing about natural horsemanship!!!!

  • @georgiabates well then i agree with every word u are saying because its true. the man aint beating the horse with the whip. the horse and the man have an awesome bond that cant be broken./

  • @georgiabates you're dead on. it's not only about the ears, either. it's the whole facial expressions and the tightness of the mouth that really clues you in. the ears are jus the most obvious & are often misread when people don't fully understand horses

  • @georgiabates Agreed, dude I have no clue how people mistake this for animal cruelty... i haven't been riding for more than 2 years and I know that horses don't do that for anger or scaredness.

The horse I ride at the ranch I take lessons at puts his ears back all the time listening to me.

  • ... do you know what dressage is?

  • i also wonder if you ever ridden a horse if a horse cares and is listening to you 90% of the time they have 1 ear turned back towards you usually two but occasionally something will draw their attention away it's them focusing and listening do you think those horses are mad??? they are not... when a horse is mad or scared their ears are practically plastered to the back of their neck not just facing backwards this horses body language is him listening but he seems very relaxed

  • oh my god. thats incredible!

  • why?

  • Utterly perfect!

  • stal mansour :D(L)

    he's amazing :D

    xRochelle

  • Honza is awesome, as good as they get!!!

  • wow..what a beautiful horse!

  • STUNNING ANIMAL!!!

  • wow!!!It is very amazing!!!Fantastic!!!!!!

  • that's a gorgeous horse.

  • Much more natural spanish walk than other horses ive seen. More relaxed.

  • That's truly beautiful. You can see the horse having a lot of fun.

  • Good grief, THAT is awesome. I love it!

By the way, do I hear a dog whining in the background? :D

  • Amazing! I Adore natural horsemanship, and it works like a dream! My horse has changed entirely because of it...Beautiful horse, and the owner hadels him wonderfully!

  • I've always loved watching Honza and his mustang, warmblood mix stallion. (Who would of ever dreamed of that mix!) He is such an inspiration and it's been so much fun to see them progress even more with the Parelli program. Bravo you too, bravo!!!

  • Honza seemed a bit irritated actually. He moves his tail and the way he makes the spanish pas suggests he is really irritated. It looks awesome, but the horse isn't that happy. Maybe a bad day?

  • Honza Blaha is the man, not the horse. ;)

  • Honza is the man:)))))....

  • my horse Rhiszo acts the same way, but horses act different ways, I'm going to be saddle breaking a mare that has her ears back all the time but really once you get to know her she is a sweet horse, Honza is just watching all the little commands that the owner is giving. Its just the horse's horseanality!! just like us people, we don't always smile when we enjoy what we're doing we just do it, horses do the same thing. when you have a good connection with the horse, they'll do all they can for u

  • If you watch horses moving within a herd, they look annoyed as well; but horses are happiest when they're with eachother.

Also, if the horse didn't enjoy it, he could choose to stop and leave if he wanted.

I don't like how literally close the horse is to Honza though.. He should set more boundaries. Just look at their feet during the Spanish walk.. eeeep! The horse needs to calm down too..

  • now thats lovely

  • that was cool

  • You do not know what is the name of this song? Thank you

  • I think it's "Light The Fire Within" by LeAnn Rimes....

  • magnifique !!

  • it's like a dog

  • The man does prove that natural horsemanship is the natural thing. Of course he has to make a living, too.

  • THIS ist great.

  • Honza is awesome.

  • that takes a special horse. my mare wouldn't fall for these shenanigans. but i can work with her entirely without a bridle, and that's not just for show. honestly, why would i need her to free bolt around in circles or run circles around me? i just think he's taking it a little far to make a little money. but gifted nonetheless. that horses neck is huge!!

  • that "running in rounds" is a game for horse. funny and joy game. and along with other games it helps to develop horse's intellect and physical form

And his neck is not just huge, it's physically developped because Honza teaches all his horses to absolutely natural collection, in freedom

  • completely agree with you! your very right! i love that natural freedom!

  • That horse is a spunk... *druels* Me like, Me like very much ...He's so muscley and stocky... My dream horse. And so well behaved.

  • well now, we all know parelli is just SHIT. it just makes your horse crazy. and, if you were a knowledgeable horse person, you would also know that it would take alot more than a smack on his "shins" to get him to do an extended trot.

  • Jberban...get a life, OK?

    Sheesh!

  • What's the problem ?? So go to your "sport" and keep killing horses !!

  • what? do you even know what youre talking about? parelli is shit, it's made for arrogant dummies who need want a DIY that leads to the perfect horse. it works, so long as you like frivolous training, expensive wooden sticks and a strong feeling of self accomplishment.

  • Parelli is amazing! My horse will do anything for me willingly once he has learned it! And are you sure your not just jealous because you have to beat your horse to get him to do the right thing?

  • No we all know that parelli is an amazing program. Its where My horse will do things for me willingly instead of forcing him! And with parelli I am the domonaint HORSE not the BIG BAD BULLY!!!!!!

  • wow he has so much control and such a good bond with his horse, pretty magical

  • It's no QH...it's some bulgarian xbred.

  • I do believe he's a Russian mustang something cross :D

  • Actually the guy said on the 'Cowboy and Horse Act Amsterdam 2007' said "His Father was a Ductch Showjumper and his mother was a Pony!"

  • Gaston is gelded.

  • To je krása!!!!

  • lalalashea89,

yes, this horse was completley forced to do all of these stunts. As you can tell, he has metal chains attached to his feet and the trainer is constantly beating him to make him perform how he would like.

Honestly? Get a life. Not everything is cruetly.

  • Honza and Gaston always incredible, so much respect for eachother it is a beautiful thing, and so much presence for such a handsom little gelding ! Yes he is a gelding not a stallion as previously mentioned by someone. Honza it is great to see the clip just wish it were in person again. Maybe Equine Affaire in Calif... one can hope.... miss you keep it natural and give him a carrot for me. T

  • I really admire and respect Honza. His horsemanship is originally parelli based. I know that his horsemanship in not forced apon the horse and he has taken this horse to L4 parelli. This horse is quite a dominant horse and used to be a stallion. He also has an extreme playdrive. This horse has a lot of respect and trust for his handler and wouldn't be achieving results like this if he was forced.

  • Idk about this. I'm at level two parelli with my horse and the key to teaching him to do things is to evaluate his attitude. This horse just looks irritated and upset. He is resisting the entire time. It's great for this guy if he just wants to impress a bunch of people in an arena. But it shouldn't be called natural horsemanship if its obvious that the horse was being "forced" to do it.

  • The horse is a stallion I have seen casper act the same at times with Pat.

My sister had a stallion she did parelli on and he acted the same at times. Stallions are very different to mares or geldings in their attitudes.

  • Alrighty, Miss Parelli, if you're so smart and level 2....What is it Pat and Linda say about liberty being the truth?

You can't force a horse to do freakin anything at liberty. Pay attention before you try to sound smart.

  • don't think you can force them to do anything really. i'd like mine to be bit more responsive as this horse is, if i ask for canter offline chances are i'll get kicked, so i have lots more work to do yet.

  • It's nice that you noticed. A HUGE part of the program is to notice and care how your horse feels about it. Honza is very good and I am sure he is seeing even more than what we do. I think ozwelshcobs is correct. When you really get to playing with stallions, they can be a lot snottier than mares and geldings. If Honza was pushing too hard, his horse would probably just leave.

  • Wow..Like Amazing

  • omg if that is a quarter horse he is the most georgeas quarter horse i have ever seen but he looks drafty

  • To jsou frajeri,fakt moc pekny.Uzasny,jako lipizzan :)

  • Honza je nejlepšíí!!

  • (( و الأنعام خلقها لكم فيها دفء و منافع و منها تأكلون و لكم فيها جمال حين تريحون و حين تسرحون ))

  • Maybe half of "showeys" *could* do that for you. Fewer -- much fewer - than 1% *will* do that for you. Fabulous. Simply fabulous. Another outstanding video: Mikey play with Red Sun.

  • I just love how he smacks the horses shins a few times with the whip getting him to extend. Its pittiful.

  • What on earth are you talking about?

  • he's not smacking the horse, he's touching the horse with the whip as a cue for what he wants the horse to do. whips should only be used for cueing, not beating and this man uses those whips properly.

  • absolutely amazing, im sure alot of showey's couldn't do that!!

  • Excellent !!!! beautiful horse
