Neil's in the same league as Elvis & Johnny Cash. They were NEVER a fad. Just great performers who made the world a better place being what they were meant to be. They never go out of style.
Can't figure out how...but someway...Neil...your music is what people want to be, want to aspire to, want to excel to. I cannot figure out why or how people lost their way in this world...but "your" music is that what humans could be...better than yesterday...better than today. Wish today's music had the heart and soul you have...maybe people should listen more, truly listen, before becoming a performer. Could tomorrows music have the passion...I guess we'll both have to wait and see.
like check out my new song there no one checks out this osng there .. i dont ? know why there so go to johndenverSINGS and check out there. and tell me how it is..george ..

@60fatman The bit from 0:38 to 0:45 sounds the same tune as the start of the verse in 'Dont cry for me Argentina' from 'Evita', but this was written years before so if anything Lloyd Webber nicked it !
@beautifuldarknessluv Here's an idea....DON'T LISTEN TO IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT.... Anyhow, if it SUCKS so much, it begs the question why you're even on here making this DICKHEAD comment.......
@sabrehill1 Speak English, much? "..hear about a frog, who dreamed of being a king - and then became one" is a metaphor. Try Googling that, to see what it is, since you apparently missed out on an education. It explains it perfectly. These lyrics are damned-near Godlike - just because you don't get them, doesn't make them bad.
I never claimed to have written this song. Someone on You Tube needs to see a psychologis or just talk to me man to man. Thils is to me one of the great songs ever written. Only Neil could write something as personal as this.
@Ellie8969 uhmm if you had more than a high school GED or a community college AS or AA you might get the metaphorical chair.....its used by everyone...but appreciated by very few.....or even recognized at all...sorry to overwhelm you with mental depth........ideas are actually more than i-phone punches.....
@fuzzypige222 Oh dear. I'm British, you ignorant yank...our educational system far, far out ranks yours. I also have a degree in English Literature (which means something here). But here's the thing....I have a fucking opinion. I aired it. How dare you imply that your view is the only valid one! Your appalling lack of even basic grammar makes your infantile attempt at sounding intellectual truly laughable. Go listen to pop songs and stop bothering your betters.
@rocky4life6 Yes that is true..But some that I love belong in LA...This is where all that love them are and we want them home....TO LA~ I love Neil Diamond as like an old friend.
Neil Diamond is a real geniuns. I have listened to almost all of his musinc since I was 15. Very deep. Too many good songs, one of my favourites!!! Greetings from Mexico.
The West Coast is no place to live for an East Coast man from New York. L.A. isn't the worst place in the world. It's just the worst place to be when you feel like you can't leave. In my heart my home is in N.Y. and it's something that all the rational thinking can't overcome. Home calls and I feel lost. Yet, I am. I AM!
Thank you Neil. I feel like I know exactly what you felt when you wrote this.

@crateluisjose Your dad has great taste in music. The use of horns in this song has always given me the feeling of a strong Latino influence. I would love to hear some of the other artist your dad turned you on to!

@54nomore I am a massive Neil Diamond fan and this is one of my favourites along with morningside and brooklyn roads, as a songwriter he is untouchable as a performer no-one comes near, please check out my rendition of this song by typing my user name or Dave Radstock in the search bar, you will be surprised, there is also another song you are the best part of me, any comments would be welcome, thank you
This song is to be played at my funeral if I die before my mother. Listening to this song got me thru some rotten times and still does. I took my daughter to a show 20 years ago and when it was over she said-I know why you love his music. It reaches your heart and soul.
@tbrown6225 And it almost had me eating the barrel of a 12 gauge and looking for an empty rafter and 4 feet of rope more times than I care to remember. I'm over than part of my life now thanks be to the grace of God, but if you'll excuse me, I can't even finish listening to this because my eyes are kinda cloudy and I just don't need to go 'there' anymore...
Love Neil Diamond, my favorite...we're the same age...never head of Neil Diamond until my precious daughter, Pamela introduced his music to me...she said to me one day, " Mother, have you heard Neil Diamond's latest song Kentucky Woman?"
Never heard of Neil Diamond or the song Kentucky Woman I answered. Neil Diamond Is Pamela's favorite singer also. She has developed an auto immune disease of the liver, my dear daughter.

I agree with MrEvolution why can't people love more than one type of music. There are plenty of us out there who love Neil but then can turn around and put on Tones on Tail.
I never understood how people can't truly like different types of music - instead of just one type. I love Neil Diamonds music. But I'm also a die-hard fan of old Black Sabbath, all of it. I own and have always liked the lone Sex Pistols cd (Never mind......). I could put in the Bricks are Heavy cd from L7 after hearing "I am I said" easily. Just like people who are fanatics over a food like steak can also love chocolate - two foods totally unrelated but both r outstanding.

ah ...reminds me of when the principal used to take me for dicky back rides around the office whilst i was wearing my tight hockey shorts and long socks....ah the memorys
This song reminds me of being 16 and crapping myself in gym class and running through the hallways out into the snow-covered parking lot screaming and crying like a toddler. That evening as i lay in my bed, still wearing my brownie-filled wranglers, i looked out my bedroom window at a beautiful sunset and this song came on the radio. Ahh wonderful memories. Just a footnote, i was beaten silly by my stepfather that night and crapped my pants again. This time voluntarily! Thanks for posting!!!
Hi Chucky funny you should ask that I saw a guy playing in a pub in sydney (The Rocks) and I kid you not his name was Glenn Campbell and he just played covers and he sounded just like cat stevens. then he did johnny cash and sounded like him but the best was yet to come he did Neil Diamond covers and I thought I was listening to Neil Diamond.
Makes me nostalgic.

The pain, loneliness and haunting beauty of this song is as evident now as the first time I heard it 30 years ago. And I still identify with it...

You show remarkable taste. No rap thugs for me either, and I have been a Neil Diamond fan for more than twice the number of years you have been around; (even though my
favourite genre of music is country! !
