  • Decided I'm having this played at my funeral!

  • Beautiful. I love Neil Diamond and every song he has sung . Love you Neil Always and Forever.

  • Can't figure out how...but someway...Neil...your music is what people want to be, want to aspire to, want to excel to. I cannot figure out why or how people lost their way in this world...but "your" music is that what humans could be...better than yesterday...better than today. Wish today's music had the heart and soul you have...maybe people should listen more, truly listen, before becoming a performer. Could tomorrows music have the passion...I guess we'll both have to wait and see.

    Thks

  • Neil please call me. I'm in the book.

  • There are two types of people in the world - those who hate Neil Diamond and those who love him. I am one of the latter.

  • a great bittersweet song...a man trying ti find himself is a big lonely world..

  • neil at his finest.....

  • I remember hearing/reading that this song was inspired/written about Lenny Bruce, the comic... Either way, it screams loneliness...

  • "I am" I said..........

It's all about being oneself, "I am, I say, I am and cry......." that's what it is all about

in a world where being yourself is the most important thing for you, me or whoever!!!

  • Everyone has felt this way at one time or another...

  • a good pick me up tune dudes ;)

  • Like it or not . If you enjoy the song go ahead and listen to it if not move on to one you like don't waste your time listening to something you object to.

  • @60fatman The bit from 0:38 to 0:45 sounds the same tune as the start of the verse in 'Dont cry for me Argentina' from 'Evita', but this was written years before so if anything Lloyd Webber nicked it !

  • i don't know or even care where hr is from I just thank god he is!

  • The people in LA never got behind this song.

  • theme song of my life

  • I love this song thank you.

  • one of the greate4st artists ever, song for woteva mood!!! absolute genius, Neil we salute you!!!!!!

  • lovely song

  • this song is my grandfathers song ! he is dead ...

  • @beautifuldarknessluv Here's an idea....DON'T LISTEN TO IT IF YOU DON'T LIKE IT.... Anyhow, if it SUCKS so much, it begs the question why you're even on here making this DICKHEAD comment.......

  • @beautifuldarknessluv Then don't listen to it and let those who do enjoy it.

  • You may not like this, but then I guess if you had any talent you would have something here we could listen to, or call s#$t.

  • This song sucks ass.

  • goodbye grandpa this is your song(L)

  • Great Video! Bobby G Covers This Song On My Channel!

  • what a song

  • If you disliked this song you are retarded.

  • @robertfeol If you liked this song you're a fucking fat ass who lives in Memphis and wears fucking Scrunchies. Douche bag.

  • barmy lyrics crammed in. suumat about a frog?

tune and singing is fantastic tho

  • @sabrehill1 Speak English, much? "..hear about a frog, who dreamed of being a king - and then became one" is a metaphor. Try Googling that, to see what it is, since you apparently missed out on an education. It explains it perfectly. These lyrics are damned-near Godlike - just because you don't get them, doesn't make them bad.

  • @RitzyTrailer

love the tune but hadn't heard of the fable before. googled, and now I know.

    cheers

  • I never claimed to have written this song. Someone on You Tube needs to see a psychologis or just talk to me man to man. Thils is to me one of the great songs ever written. Only Neil could write something as personal as this.

  • is england muslim yet??

  • @fuzzypige222

it may as fucking well be theres enough of the fuckers here

  • When I read the comments on these pages I can not help it, I must laugh there

is nothing else I can do, and yes, I am a citizen of the whole world and my formal

education has been shaped by the whole world I took a little from here and also

from everywhere and my ethnical background is european, mediterranean and

    american and I love everybody.

  • my gosh how many songs has this guy had !!!!!

  • i love this song so much :) it makes me feel amazing

  • HE IS MY NIGHT AND SHINING ARMOR!WITHOUT HIS POWERFUL ENERGY AND INSPIRATIONAL BALLADS, IT JUST WOULDEN'T BE THE SAME!!!!!! DOROTHY

  • I suspect Neil is crying out to God in this song. I AM is how the lord references himself in the bible... I love it.

  • @bubba85715 fuck your god

  • This song makes me cry. )':

  • Damm this is good music----------- I miss it so

  • I really want to know the Chair's feelings about this song!

  • @bluesgurugod haha omg funny

  • @bluesgurugod Ha ha.....but I have to say that's the only bum note in this song...."not even the chair!" WTF? I think they stuck it in cos it rhymed.

  • @Ellie8969 just use your imagination and listen and appreciate the talent.

  • @irishpaddy99 Excuse me, pillock....but I gave my OPINION. Or is that not allowed in cretinland? Feck off.

  • @Ellie8969 uhmm if you had more than a high school GED or a community college AS or AA you might get the metaphorical chair.....its used by everyone...but appreciated by very few.....or even recognized at all...sorry to overwhelm you with mental depth........ideas are actually more than i-phone punches.....

  • @fuzzypige222 Oh dear. I'm British, you ignorant yank...our educational system far, far out ranks yours. I also have a degree in English Literature (which means something here). But here's the thing....I have a fucking opinion. I aired it. How dare you imply that your view is the only valid one! Your appalling lack of even basic grammar makes your infantile attempt at sounding intellectual truly laughable. Go listen to pop songs and stop bothering your betters.

  • @Ellie8969 Now Stewy, are you getting fussy?

  • You Rock Neil.......hope one day to see you live. isa

  • This song is so profound....to feel so lonely and alone, that when you cry out, no one hears, not even the chair....damn....

  • Congratulations, Neil, on your induction into the Rock & Roll Hall Of Fame !! Way to go, Solitary Man !!

  • no better singing voice

  • This song clearly dates itself by saying that the rents are low in L.A.

  • @rocky4life6 lmao yeah I'm a native I would love to see low rents :)

  • @rocky4life6

    compared to NY?

  • @rocky4life6 Yes that is true..But some that I love belong in LA...This is where all that love them are and we want them home....TO LA~ I love Neil Diamond as like an old friend.

  • @rocky4life6 Unless you have rent control like Whitey Bulger

  • @rocky4life6 Not really. He's comparing L.A. to New York.....

  • i dont agree atall marce35164 its very difficult to be original in a phony world. the heart !!!

  • this is one of my favourite songs of neil diamond apart from cracklin' rosie...

  • you are the best ever x

  • love you neil forever x

  • one of yhe absolutely greatest songs ever. so sad and moving.thanks neil.

  • This song describes my life fairly closely.

The West Coast is no place to live for an East Coast man from New York. L.A. isn't the worst place in the world. It's just the worst place to be when you feel like you can't leave. In my heart my home is in N.Y. and it's something that all the rational thinking can't overcome. Home calls and I feel lost. Yet, I am. I AM!

Thank you Neil. I feel like I know exactly what you felt when you wrote this.

  • HOLY MOLY PAP & PELONY

  • Neil is a Diamond

  • Timeless Classic!

  • Gracias a mi padre, he llegado a conocer a este gran interprete, que letras, inigualables al igual su estilo..... le agradecere siempre a mi apdre, por darme estas influencias musicales

  • @crateluisjose Your dad has great taste in music. The use of horns in this song has always given me the feeling of a strong Latino influence. I would love to hear some of the other artist your dad turned you on to!

  • I made a CD and it played this song at my Aunt's funeral a few months ago.

She loved Neil Diamond :) And so do I... I'm 16. She was 49.

  • @taleydaley2012 Sorry for your loss. She had great taste in music.

  • @lj33p Awh, thank you so much. Yes, she did :)

  • Wonderfull Song!! Thank You......

  • a masterclass in music,

  • NEIL ROCKS!!!! god bless America!!!

  • Beautiful song, sung by a wonderful singer.

  • This will go down as one of the greatest songs ever penned. This genius singer/songwriter will most definitely go down as one of America's best. His music will go on long after we are gone.

  • @54nomore I am a massive Neil Diamond fan and this is one of my favourites along with morningside and brooklyn roads, as a songwriter he is untouchable as a performer no-one comes near, please check out my rendition of this song by typing my user name or Dave Radstock in the search bar, you will be surprised, there is also another song you are the best part of me, any comments would be welcome, thank you

  • None better. Thanks for sharing

  • This song is to be played at my funeral if I die before my mother. Listening to this song got me thru some rotten times and still does. I took my daughter to a show 20 years ago and when it was over she said-I know why you love his music. It reaches your heart and soul.

  • @tbrown6225 And it almost had me eating the barrel of a 12 gauge and looking for an empty rafter and 4 feet of rope more times than I care to remember. I'm over than part of my life now thanks be to the grace of God, but if you'll excuse me, I can't even finish listening to this because my eyes are kinda cloudy and I just don't need to go 'there' anymore...

  • Love Neil Diamond, my favorite...we're the same age...never head of Neil Diamond until my precious daughter, Pamela introduced his music to me...she said to me one day, " Mother, have you heard Neil Diamond's latest song Kentucky Woman?"

Never heard of Neil Diamond or the song Kentucky Woman I answered. Neil Diamond Is Pamela's favorite singer also. She has developed an auto immune disease of the liver, my dear daughter.

  • I LOVE IT!

  • @easyed3211 areosmith still rocks -getting older- but as they say the older the better but for most of us the 70"s will always be the best of times party on

  • I agree with Ashley.. irrespective of age, religion.. his songs take you somewhere... and you start to live in his songs

  • i grew up listening to neil diamond, as he is my mom's favorite. i can listen to him for hours, but i can't watch him. he just looks too overwrought when he sings.

  • My girlfriend bought this double album a short while ago.

I like oldies very much too, "I AmI Said", "Beautiful Noise" and "Sweet Caroline" are my most favourite songs by Neil Diamond.

  • 70"s ROCKED ---NEIL---JOHN DENVER---AREOSMITH---LED---STEVE MILLER---

QUEEN---BREAD---REO---KANSAS--- i could go on and on lets just say there all icons ,70"s was the best times to grow up loved it and I still do ROCK ON

  • yeah!!! great song love it! true artist! i love neil diamond and johnny cash!!!!

  • HIS BEST.

  • Epic!

  • .., :truely a diamond"!

  • LEGEND !

  • This is a great song...

  • I now live on the opposite shore than the one on which I was born & raised. I've known this song for what seems like my whole life, and it just now made me cry. I love his voice, I love his words.

  • @mammothroller the song gets me too. i kinda feel like the country mouse that went to visit his cousin in the city. i didn't go back and sometimes i wish i would have and now it's like i've stayed away too long

  • neil diamond owns this song all the inflections and his vioce

  • not az good az elvis but still brill

  • diana , no brasil ,canta essa musica

  • Excelente versiòn, gracias por subirla.

  • Pues si es la original. El es el autor, el escribio la musica....

  • A Classic !!!!

  • i luv this man's voice...romantic...husky...oh...am gonna melt......i want him to kiss meh when he's singing...

  • I agree with MrEvolution why can't people love more than one type of music. There are plenty of us out there who love Neil but then can turn around and put on Tones on Tail.

  • I have this CD. Neil Diamond is like THE best! He is (he said) super handsome, too!

  • I never understood how people can't truly like different types of music - instead of just one type. I love Neil Diamonds music. But I'm also a die-hard fan of old Black Sabbath, all of it. I own and have always liked the lone Sex Pistols cd (Never mind......). I could put in the Bricks are Heavy cd from L7 after hearing "I am I said" easily. Just like people who are fanatics over a food like steak can also love chocolate - two foods totally unrelated but both r outstanding.

  • The pain, loneliness and haunting beauty of this song is as evident now as the first time I heard it 30 years ago. And I still identify with it...

  • You took the words right out of my mouth :)

  • RAP! (Warning: This genre is known to have elements known to the state of Sanity to cause brain damage, loss of culture, and other reproductive harm.)

  • I'm seventeen and I love listening to Neil Diamond and have for years, thanks to my grandma. <3 No rap thugs for me ;D

  • never mind the bollock ..heres the sex pistols.. luv !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! that will change your opinion???

  • well done lad !! you got good taste!!!

  • You show remarkable taste. No rap thugs for me either, and I have been a Neil Diamond fan for more than twice the number of years you have been around; (even though my

favourite genre of music is country! !

  • ah ...reminds me of when the principal used to take me for dicky back rides around the office whilst i was wearing my tight hockey shorts and long socks....ah the memorys

  • This song reminds me of being 16 and crapping myself in gym class and running through the hallways out into the snow-covered parking lot screaming and crying like a toddler. That evening as i lay in my bed, still wearing my brownie-filled wranglers, i looked out my bedroom window at a beautiful sunset and this song came on the radio. Ahh wonderful memories. Just a footnote, i was beaten silly by my stepfather that night and crapped my pants again. This time voluntarily! Thanks for posting!!!

  • Haha great memories

  • "Simply amazing,voice lyrics.everything".

  • Beautiful song, who is going to take the place of these great singer songwriters?

    Bless you neil

  • It's a dead art! All the youth has is useless rap thugs!!

  • @chuckee19

Hi Chucky funny you should ask that I saw a guy playing in a pub in sydney (The Rocks) and I kid you not his name was Glenn Campbell and he just played covers and he sounded just like cat stevens. then he did johnny cash and sounded like him but the best was yet to come he did Neil Diamond covers and I thought I was listening to Neil Diamond.

  • @chuckee19 i am
