The images you picked are fabulous, but I have to say that the playing behind it is marvelous, thanks for posting such beautiful work... keep going... inspire... we all need it!!!!
Is it just me or does the mix on this song seem a little off? Don't get me wrong, I absolutely love Neal Schon and his playing, tone, his songs, everything. But the mix just seems a little...strange...But maybe it's just me.
I remember seeing Neal Schon on Dio's Hear n Aid video (which had Vivian Campbell, George Lynch, Brad Gillis...just to name a few)...and I when they got to his solo part it was a goosebump on arm moment. Yeah, he plays the Journey lovey dovey stuff, but when he gets down he can shred with the best of em, no doubt.
Truly beautiful! Really good phrasing, and amazing tone! I believe he is using a Fender Strat (with his custom pickups), I never knew that you can get such an amazing warm tone from a strat lol. I agree with many people on here...he really is an underrated guitarist. Schon's intrumentals are the best of the best guitar instrumentals out there :)
Neal Schon is not an underrated guitarist. It's just many of the "younger generation" today don't know of him, Journey's music along with many other bands only gets promoted on classic rock stations even if they release new material. Guitar mags also often promote the newer bands/musicians,etc....Anyone who grew up in the 70s-80s or knows about the great bands/music of days gone by know Neal Schon is one of the greats. My fave bands were Van Halen, Scorps etc, but also knew and loved Journey...
@guitardude2508 I couldn't agree more that Neal is one of the most under rated guitarists ever. I've been a fan of his from Day One. Neal is the God of guitar players!!!!
Schon's album is amazing! He plays so fluently and with feeling. The photos are amazing and go along with this music....the photos give more of an atmospheric feel to Schon's instrumental piece :)
Why is it that if I go to school and talk about Neal everyones like who is that, but I talk about Van Halen and everyones knows who i'm talking about? Personally Neals much more talented than other guitarists.
@Newbell2 That is easy to answer. Neal never got the press the others got partly do to the type of music Journey plays. He undoubtedly is one of the best.
I mean, when all of the band members parted and did their solo stuff, they would have an obviously different sound from the usual "Journey sound." And from Neal, I expected to hear something a bit more aggressive, edgier rock, perhaps similar Journey's very early material...
So to listen to this pretty little masterpiece, entirely opposite of my expectation, just blew me away. :P
It's almost as if you can tell who the guitarist is whenever you hear Neal Schon by chance. He has that certain "something" that always shows that "this is Neal Schon playing".
Onelightburning Do you made that video? Neal Schon is asking who made it and wants to know..Go to his FB site and let him know who made the video..Thanks, Beverly (rosemarieblue1)
Neal Schon has the BIGGEST influence on my guitar playing. The best guitarist to live. His music has thought and meaning behind it,unlike these freakin death metal CRAP!!!!LOVE the Master.
I am so pleased to see so many people coming to realize what a musical genius this man is. I found this EP (Beyond The Thunder) 14 years ago and it has and always will remain my favorite of all time. A lot of folks also don't realize that Jonathan Cain, Journey's keyboardist and composer of most of their big hits is Neil's collaborator and producer on this EP.
Great slideshow OneLightBurning! I do agree that Send Me An Angel is one of the best off that solo album...Neal Schon's soaring guitars just sort of take you away- ya feel what I mean?...
Simply Beautiful, like all of his music, thanks for the posting, when I am down I watch this and It Puts me in a Good mood..Thanks Neal..And OnelightBurning for a great slide show and song. One of my Favs...

Neal and Carlos (Santana) share a kindred beginning. Both have been blessed with a talent that many guitarists would want but so few posses.

There really isn't a bad song on the album. His later solo stuff never measured up to "Beyond the Thunder".

If you like this music try one of the best ever:
