  • Technology didn't rot the brain it improves it, technology rots the earth. With our improved knowledge we should save the earth and technology

  • I think its a good idea to put the phone or computer away, and just pick up a good book and read, every now and then

  • "Hand-eye coordination"? Basketball? Baseball? Football? Even table tennis! I can't believe he said that. lol

  • @isbourne why does gaming increasing hand eye coordination lessen the effectiveness of sports for the same purpose? It's not one or the other.. it can most certainly be both. I can't believe YOU said that.

  • @Ejwoods08 HE said that "children today, if they're not in school and not asleep, are online on some form of digital, mobile or computing or gaming device", which seems to leave out the possibility of sport. I don't say it's one or the other. However, I question how much hand-eye coordination online gaming requires.

  • Hmm.

  • I know i read more, not less. If it wasn't for the internet i would barely ever read.

  • My 5 year old nephew taught himself to count using games and also taught himself some english using games!!!!

  • Very honest response.

  • @InishowenEstate So you are seriously suggesting that gaming will save you from "the man?" So tell me sir, do you have your tin foil hat on???

  • And there you have it: I game to make myself smarter.

  • younger kids are reading better because of browsing through the internet all the time.

  • Browsing the internet has led to more skimming and less deep cognition, which is what he said.

  • This is a good "get" for Fora. Thanks.

  • Frequent technological use does NOT reduce intelligence, provided the time spend with it does not override other education; some technological activities, however, do. But on the whole, technology probably increases mental fidelity.

  • i spend about 80% of my online time to educational purposes - science, politics, economics, etc.

    i'm more educated everyday.

now, those who spend 80% of their online time watch yt vids of people getting hurt....

stupid people view entertaining content, smart people view educational content.

    it's all relative.

    ;d

  • @666norton420

i has nothing to do with how smart you are. it has to do with how you've been raised up.

  • I liked this quite a bit, it's a perspective I can agree with,

    Five Stars

  • I read LOTS of books, and I am a nerd..

I really don't see an decrease in book reading for people who play video games or not...

  • The advancements and potential for advancement through tech in education and cognition are enormous. There is also the potential for advancement in stupidity. It's all in how a person chooses to use a tech device.

It's easy to see the effect on reading. Simply look at most comments posted on YouTube or other popular sites. Grammar and spelling of some are so bad, it hurts to read those posts.

  • @On1yCheryl

On the other hand, youtube commenting has forced many to type written words more often than they normally would. In reading other people's comments, they're also developing their vocabulary. The benefits of this too are yet to be quantified.

  • I agree completely. Nicely said!

  • People have gotten worse at writing for many decades, mainly because writing wasn't very important. Before things like the telephone a letter was the only way to contact a distant friend, so people spend their days writing. Then people spent their day talking on the phone instead.

With the internet, writing is becoming more and more important in everyday life since people who use it have to write and eventually have to get better at writing.

  • yo man thats wut i ben tellin my ma 4eva but she dun get it!!!!! !!!1

  • Chub foe laughs, I pity him.
