I like that... no heavy breathing, no waving of fingers, not even a wind up... nothing... just whack and walk away... best brick break I've ever seen.
@kcwliew I saw him do three with no gaps between them (cheating) just walked up to them and broke them. They didn't just break but more exploded. Awesome power.
ok some one plz help me ...i need to practice brick brakeing ,ive got to do it for my TKD black belt wich is soon, what kind of bricks are usally used? so i can get some and go through a few before gradeing...plz help
i wouldnt have a clue im black belt karate :L but ill try 2 find out i have a friend that is black belt TKD =D for me kicks wer a bad weakness lol practiced atleast 1hr a day now im ok with them =D jus practice itl make u perfect =D
Well,at 70 years old,how much later do you mean? Seriously, like any other conditioning,it has to be done carefully and built up gradually. Most of the injuries I've heard of have been "too much, too soon".
Many years ago I saw Mr Rhee illustrate a finer point by three-inch punching a dojang wall. There was a wet thud and two knuckle marks were clearly visible. On closer examination it looked like someone had used the round end of a ball-pein hammer.
@0ptriX There has been debate as to whether or not it can cause long term damage, but the short answer is not really. All that really happens is it causes microfractures in the bone, which when healed make the bone more dense. If you look at a professional breaker's hand, you will notice that one of their hands is slightly bigger than the other (due to a build up of tissue) and that their knuckles are usually flat. it does not cause arthritis either.
One reasoning on why he did this was simple, I was in a school which was part of Master Rhee's Scottish academies, and he made 14yo+ boys do press-ups on the first two knuckles for grading so when we trained twice a week it was part of the warm up to do 20 of them on the knuckles, strengthens the knuckles to effectively do more damage if you mean to punch with them.
Great teacher and mentor, and he always remembered me - "You, have you fixed your annan sogi yet"
The head of my organisation was one of grand master Rhee's first 12 black belts. According to him his party trick was to line up 5 pieces of wood, ask someone to nominate a piece, then hit the wood so that only that piece broke. He had excellent control and power.
So relaxed, some day i hope to be half that good. And maybe have the pleasure of learning directly from him. Masters always leave their mark in the smallest fraction of time, though the last one i met graded me and pretty much told me i sucked, lol - but i still learned something. Remember if you're too old to learn, you're too old to fight. :)
The same guy who granted his brother in law (William Shannon)a black belt. A sell out, without doubt. All of this in the late 70s early 80s at 230 Renfrew st Glasgow.
I'm soo excited he's coming to do some seminars at our school!!! Even though hes like 70. I'm a first degree .. So its all good. I wish i could break a brick
Chong Chul Rhee & no thats not him. Master Rhee does not believe in displays of any kind on a media scale. Good luck with you black belt ive Been there, enjoy you black belt dinner after. its been awhile since ive trained but gwengay yong & porang yong is the black belt patterns if i remember it correctly. You only really start learning after black belt to turn training into second nature. hope you do well Gingerninga
Yes very strict on video. Very rare to issue a first Dan level to 15 yo. You must be very good, double graded at some stage. I had to spar 2 0n 1 for 55mins then did my pattern twice straight after, then 30 push ups & finally break the boards. After getting thru all that i thought it was over,I did another 30mins of sparing to end. I was dead on my feet. If you feel he is pushing you to the max just dont stop or show sign,s of defeat with good stance & speed. Good luck & be brave.
Hi i also do Rhee Tae Kwon Do (Australia) I went for my junior black belt at the age of 14 and was double graded to 1st dan. Been going strong for 6 years now. Good to hear about other Rhee TKD Members.
think you may have your wires crossed guys, this is Rhee(Lee)Ki Ha - president of the UKTA, vice-president of the ITF (Chang Ung). He was the pioneer of TKD in the UK and was never based in Oz
Hey that sounds very tough, Im thinking of Joining Rhee TKD, If Done Tae Kwon Do Before and got to brown with two purple. Im 16 and getting out of shape. Do you think it would be good for me to start In these classes?
Remember ITF TKD has 5 coloured belts with 5 tags between them (white, yellow tags, yellow, green tags, green, blue tags, blue, red tags, red, black tags, black, then 2nd degree and up!!) no purple or brown belts... Mr Clark 2nd degree ITF
Very easy to get junior black belt in itf anyway,if you start young enough and just keep showing up youll get it.The requirements are not difficult enough. There should be no such thing as kid blackbelts, let them wait till 16 or 18 like judo and bjj when theyre mentally mature and can actually do what the adults can.
I was at a seminar with Grandmaster Rhee on Saturday,(been to 3 of his in total)sadly he's retiring next year so probably not too many more seminars, but he's earned a break! Watching him doing this you wouldn't think he turns 70 next year! The man really is a legend and I'm sure we'll still see plenty of him, I can't see him retiring completely!
For me GM Rhee is the Pionier who made tkd respected for destruction, unfortunately no other masters are comming through showing his original malice and destroying everything in his path.Remember he was not a pionier master just a pionier the master came many years later. He was awsome and is a nice man
It look as though he is more concerned about his uniform being clean than his fist! What a wonderful gentleness of this Grandmaster! Great respect I have for him!!! Thank you for posting this!
Actually Grandmaster Rhee celebrates his 70th next year. That was awesome! I've had Grandmaster Rhee grade me twice. Passed both times - he graded me on the Sunday just gone actually for my black belt.
Anyway that was cool and both Grandmaster Rhee and Mr Clark look young haha!
Don't they teach respect at your gym? It's also political crap like this that hurts Taekwondo. Every Grandmaster past their 60's that I've seen (only 3 or 4 so far) can break several bricks.
I believe it depends more on the individual and what kind of training they received then the organization they belong too. Every teacher & every student are different.
Why the would you say that? Why are the World TaeKwonDo Federation Bullshit? There are plenty of ITF guys who can not do this at even a younger age. That statement was really uncalled for. I am however very very impressed with Grandmaster Rhee. (5 stars rating!) I would give him 10!
Look up GM Lee Kyu Hyung, Look up Master Kang, Look up Korean Tigers, lol, you don't know what your talking about look up Kyuk Pa, you idiot, ITF should unite before they start talking shit.
i met him at my grading

I wonder if knuckle conditioning like this will have an effect in later life.
0ptriX 2 years ago
@0ptriX it does, the cells of the knuckles are dying so later on, when elderly, the fingers and hands stiffen up and are extremely hard to move.
kaiwingwong 1 year ago
You live to a thousand before turning entirely into stone from all the conditioning.

he really didn't put any effort or form into his punch must of been a weak brick or his fist is hard as fucking steel

not quite chap - the black belt ITF patterns are Kwang-gae, Po-Eun & Ge-Baek. Your porang should be HWARANG. hope this helps
