hey what about preping those spots and going all the way down with that roller, people now that he didnt prep those spots they will burn thru and see them after the wall is painted ......just to let u know..
@UardiP lol but cant you see that just maybe that this is an instructional video? Would it have been better to fast forward through it so everyone trying to get instructions could see the details of the proccess? No...no it wouldnt FIRED for lacking a brain. Right about that corner looks like shit lol wtf
First off you should spot prime those patches in the wall, THEN roll out the wall. And please use an extension pole lol just watching you makes my back hurt
dude would not make it for 10 mins on my job site. the only reason any of us clicked on this vid is cuz the pretty color. to avoid needing a lot of coats on a dark wall, use a grey tinted primer (your paint store will tell u - unless u go to home depot). use plenty of drop cloths. load the roller completely - i could pick on this guy all day.
the color made me clicc on it..Listen, this video is not the proffessional way,,up and down, w pattern.. but when you roll in a small spot you see the streak lines..but he shouldve scraped, sanded wiped, dusted primed before truly, but his title does say painting walls with a roller....
Doesn't everyone do everything different? some people spell color like colour? he paints in sections while others paint up and down? it came out fine, isn' that what matters?
i have painted for years and if you have ever used a bright red paint you sometimes do need 3-4 coats.priming is also key and using the right shade of primer for your finish paint will help the amount of top coats. this dude clearly does not believe in primer or sanding I see huge chunks of putty on the walls.as for those who think rolling straight up and down is the way to go you are wrong too if you want to eliminate lines use a "w" pattern then roll back into it .also a nice thick nap helps.
@joecollins024 yep your rights its true he should of primed the wall or atleast added an under coat. theres going to be a different texture where the patches of filler are too.
@blackned21 I only do one thick coat to apartments and houses that I work for is that bad? Never had any complaints.....two coats if its a dark collored wall
@blackned21 I work for a owner of some apartments some guy painted his bathroom black. I had to coat it 4 times to make it look good. I did a swiss coffee white color.
I remember the times when me and my dad used to paint walls. Now the fact that the police took him to jail because of his record is just way too hard for me to handle. Pardon for my randomness. Only that, painting reminds me of what he used to do.
anyone have any tips on how to avoid lines from the roller using low sheen paint. is it because im rolling too much mayb and the brush more dry as i go over dry wall and back to wet area or applying uneven pressure as i go along? any usefull advice will be appriciated
@MrPersian001 Don't apply any pressure, just let the roller do the work, don't load up with too much paint and make sure the roller or brush is evenly coated. roll in a Z pattern from the center to the cut and don't just stop mid roll to get more paint, make sure to feather out your edges or it will look horrible :P

@sp0rkz 1. A good pain job is done more in prep than paint. Use drywall compound to fill in holes and sand the whole wall smooth. (in the cut in video top corner was never sanded)
2. Primer should always be used. Primer sticks to old paint and fresh drywall compound. The paint then sticks to the primer.
3. A light sanding after each coat to ensure a very smooth surface.
@sp0rkz 4. When rolling you want to use the paint pole and use long strokes from top to bottom of the wall. (rare 2 story walls excluded) Putting pressure on the unpainted side of the roller (direction you are painting in) so that there is less pressure on the trailing edge leaving a smooth finish.
I'm confusing now. One video says do it in a 'W' pattern (which I think is bad), a 2nd video says to do it top to bottom to top, then shift 4 inches and do that same vertical pattern (which I think is better technique than the 1st vid), but now this video....which is the correct way?
Video was okay. My suggestion is to spend more time on prep. Especially sanding which this gentleman neglected to do. He should probably have used primer, then 2 coats of paint. Also, avoid hitting the trim or baseboards at all costs. Keeping the pole on would insure more even coverage as well, and save your back and wrist. Otherwise, nice video....very helpful to beginners!
@eravulgaris9449 Perhaps to make sure people are giving quality tips. As a professional I would have primed the spackle on the wall because you will see it otherwise in certain light. Also, I generally roll from middle out all up and down till one whole width is covered from top to bottom. His technique will work ok on that small wall but on a longer wall the paint to the left will dry. When you paint up to it you will see the roller marks because the paint will not level properly.
@eravulgaris9449 Watch a Lowe's instructional video if you're looking for DIY advice. This video is fundamentally wrong in so many ways. Frankly, it's insulting to those that paint professionally. Believe it or not, there is an enormous difference between this video and a professional contractor. If you'd like some tips, or would like to discuss further, email me and I'll help point you in the right direction. Painting is my trade and I've been doing it for a long time.
@louielouie12345 Start off by doing all of your repair work first. Small holes should be filled with a patching compound and sanded smooth, and large holes should be repaired with durabond and or a topcoat of drywall topping if needed. Spot prime all of your repairs with a latex drywall primer, or a cheap flat if you don't have primer. Also, you may even want to consider priming the room first if it hasn't been painted in awhile. If you are planning on a dramatic color change..
@ADAMKTN or if you have a ton of repairs to cover, then it is probably a good idea to prime first - ask the paint retailer to tint the primer to the same color as your topcoat to insure better topcoat coverage. The next step is to caulk any door and window casings that have opened up. Run a bead of caulk down the outside of the casings (where the trim meets the wall) and windows, as well as along the top of the base molding. Next step is to cut in your ceiling. Run a 2 1/2" or 3" brush..
@ADAMKTN around the perimeter of the ceiling using whatever paint you choose for the ceiling. If its a bedroom, flat is typically used. Make sure your are using paint and not dry brushing, otherwise your cuts will look thin when compared to the rolled portion. Next, roll out the ceiling. If its a standard sized bedroom (12x14 x8 ft.) then you should be able to complete it in two passes. Use a 1/2" or 3/4" nap roller with a 4 ft. extension pole and start in one corner of the room..
@ADAMKTN and roll from the wall out to the center of the room. Once the roller cover is saturated, you should be putting on no more than two roller widths of paint at a time. Think of the room as being two 6 x 12 ft. areas of ceiling that need to be finished. Roll tight to the walls, and don't roll back over something that you have already painted. After the ceiling is dry, the next step is to finish the walls. Start by running a roll of 1 1/2" masking tape around the perimeter of the base
@ADAMKTN molding, as well as around any casing or window moldings. If you are feeling confident with a brush, don't bother taping casings. Do not tape your ceilings. Take a sharp pencil and draw a very light line around the perimeter of the ceiling. Cut in the walls at the ceiling line by following the line that you created. Cut in around door and window casings and cut in your base molding. Make sure to feather out your brushed areas. If your brushed portion is heavy it will be visible.
@ADAMKTN The next step is to roll out the walls. Always roll from corner to corner. Do not start or stop in the middle of the wall. Keep a wet edge and lead with the framed side of your roller. Put a roller full on to the wall at a time and lay it off. Try to maintain consistency in however you are applying your paint. The goal is to maintain uniform texture, as well as coverage. Roll tight to your brushed portions. Force dry your walls when you are done by using a fan..
@ADAMKTN After the walls are dry, cut everything in and roll everything out again. Two topcoats of Satin are typically required - if you are using Flat, one coat may suffice. Force dry the second coat and pull the tape.
Notes - if you are painting trim, this should be done after the repair stages are complete (including the sanding)
Also, a pole sander is typically used to smooth out the ceilings and walls before painting.
Many Pros who see videos like this see it as an insult to their Craft. Taking it to a professional level and providing proper instruction requires experience, technical knowledge and a developed skill-set, none of which were portrayed in this video.
wow hope he wasn't doing the whole house he would be there for a year, really poor roller technique too, no laying of just really poor video for any one who really wants to know how to paint a wall, sorry but this is a fail in so many ways
This guy is a fuckin joke he makes the pros look bad and they are the kind of retatards that call me and tell me they have so many years experience and they want $26/hr. fuckin jokers
wtf is wrong with people? of all the things to be all high and mighty about, i never thought painting walls would be one of them. I think it looks nice and the color's pretty too.
I've been learning how to paint from a pro painter in the last few weeks. Its impt to get good brushes and rollers. Those cheap-o ones make the job much harder to do well....
i like these guys with the comments ive been painting 22 years no offense to your proffesion but come on a moron can paint.im a plumber and seen some real retarted painters.put your egos aside.
Sorry about this but i have to say after painting for 22 years I still will not take my roller off my extension pole to roll the lower half of the wall. you realy cant paint all day long like that and do a good job. I say his skill level is "Johny Homeowner" at best. Still looked decent, but not professional.
@vegasheat07 I tried it that way. It gets tedious to take off and put back on. Youre right. Youre better off just learning how to do the upper and lower parts with the ext pole on there....
Why dont you use a real paint scuttle. £5 at most, better than using an old tin with a wire griddle. If you turned up on my job with them tools i would give you your marching orders sorry.
"In some cases, I've had to use three or four coats.".......Yes, much like the next poor bastard to own that house who will be spending hundreds of dollars to simply paint that wall white.
I love expert village!!!! Is this man blind? Where is the primer, corner bead, and sanded drywall????? This is what I call shamrock mashed potatoes!!!
why should he prim the wall its had paint on it before and prim a wall what !!!! if its bare plaster then first coat it with water based paint not primer (oil based) u only prim wood and thats if it is having gloss or eggshell on it
@MR0Reptile0Adam dry wall primer then 2 coats of the colour you want, you should always dry wall prime any bare walls,or even use watered down white emulsion as a mist coat but the dry wall primer is cheaper :)
I need to start making how to videos! I do have a few videos on YouTube of jobs we have painted. All I can say is if you cant say something nice don't say anything!
@Billymarkz If you are so skilled and a professional then what are you doing spending your time on youtube leaving stupid comments on videos. lol lol lol
WOW just wow.. you cut in to the corner and didnt even sand any spackled areas that 1 corner in making me crazy!! there is no reason to get paint on the trim at all!! i cut in faster nicer even never ever touching the trim the way you did and would not painted at all unless that wall was sanded !!plus i wouldn't do the job even if the owner said aw don't wont worry about it ..its a reflection of you would you do..whatev
It is also to keep you from working harder than you have to by bending over and kneeling down to get paint on the wall. Take a look at my wall painting video if you want a lesson on the right way to use a rolling pole. lmao I have been in the painting business for over 30 years, I tell you what I'll send you a FREE copy of my basic wall painting video if you promise not to teach any one else these bad habits........
He dumped a lot of paint on the first 5 strokes.....in 1 spot, waste of paint, and the walls aren't even textured. The cutting in should have been feathered out. Is that raw drywall with no primer??
SORRY SOME ONE SENT THIS TO ME AND IT SCARED ME SO I HAD TO DO IT PLZ FORGIVE ME IM NOT TRYING TO ADVERTISE BUT IM SCARED OF WHAT IT SEES in 1908 a lady named sally rusa was in the woods looking for a dog until a ghost came and killed her so if ur reading this u will find a bloody body in your closet hanging there haunting you and will kill you and ur family and if u want to stop this just sends this to 6 videos in 30 mins or this will happen good luck im scared ahhhhhhhhh
and gratz to you becoming a teacher nothing wrong with it but its not "better" then being a pro at something else the true pros are the people who find peace in what they do not rushing to get home you have to truely love what you do. By you saying "better" u truly dont get it :)
k first of all why is one job better then another were all different dont say there is better things to do out there i love what i do i love working with my hands especially painting and taping and when u have passion about your work there is no job better suited for you then your are doing what you are supposed to be doing
dude chill! some guy told me this while i was painting the crown molding in my livingroom and it sounded funny at the moment. Bout your BA, thers a guy in NY with a PhD workin at mcdonalds!
He did have a point! There are better things you could be doing. I am now training to be a teacher. However, I still splash the paint about once in a while.
this guy is a professional painter? pss this guy rolls like a 45 year old soccer mom, y would u bend over when u can just use the extension pole to reach all the way day, plus u dont do the top first the the middle, n then the bottle, because ur paint wont be even, i have been painting for 3 years and i can tell u this guy doesnt know shit

Hope this helps!

@ADAMKTN Sir, you should be making the videos, not this guy!

@eravulgaris9449 I do agree but some people may know the basics but want to know how to do it properly. I do think they should just stop insulting

@eravulgaris9449 Exactly! There's always a critic!

I've been learning how to paint from a pro painter in the last few weeks. Its impt to get good brushes and rollers. Those cheap-o ones make the job much harder to do well....

Sorry about this but i have to say after painting for 22 years I still will not take my roller off my extension pole to roll the lower half of the wall. you realy cant paint all day long like that and do a good job. I say his skill level is "Johny Homeowner" at best. Still looked decent, but not professional.
vegasheat07 1 year ago
@vegasheat07 I tried it that way. It gets tedious to take off and put back on. Youre right. Youre better off just learning how to do the upper and lower parts with the ext pole on there....

Why dont you use a real paint scuttle. £5 at most, better than using an old tin with a wire griddle. If you turned up on my job with them tools i would give you your marching orders sorry.

"In some cases, I've had to use three or four coats.".......Yes, much like the next poor bastard to own that house who will be spending hundreds of dollars to simply paint that wall white.

why should he prim the wall its had paint on it before and prim a wall what !!!! if its bare plaster then first coat it with water based paint not primer (oil based) u only prim wood and thats if it is having gloss or eggshell on it
MR0Reptile0Adam 1 year ago
@MR0Reptile0Adam dry wall primer then 2 coats of the colour you want, you should always dry wall prime any bare walls,or even use watered down white emulsion as a mist coat but the dry wall primer is cheaper :)

WOW just wow.. you cut in to the corner and didnt even sand any spackled areas that 1 corner in making me crazy!! there is no reason to get paint on the trim at all!! i cut in faster nicer even never ever touching the trim the way you did and would not painted at all unless that wall was sanded !!plus i wouldn't do the job even if the owner said aw don't wont worry about it ..its a reflection of you would you do..whatev
homemademom1 2 years ago
um yeah this guy is making it alot harder than it really is.
dubloduce 2 years ago
It is also to keep you from working harder than you have to by bending over and kneeling down to get paint on the wall. Take a look at my wall painting video if you want a lesson on the right way to use a rolling pole. lmao I have been in the painting business for over 30 years, I tell you what I'll send you a FREE copy of my basic wall painting video if you promise not to teach any one else these bad habits........
artmorehead 2 years ago
Dude, I really thought you knew what you were doing until I seen you take the handle off the roller to do the lower half of the wall lol geeeezzz,
