Amazing work! My first car that I drove for high school was a 1980 Mustang Hatchback and my Dad and I went through the exact same restoration process that you did. It brought back some great memories. Thanks for sharing!
I love these quicker videos. Just get to it already. You showed the whole thing start to finish really quick, but I gotta say Man, get some other wheels for that thing. Those things are terrible brother.
hey man, its me XNathanTX, i just wanted to let you know i was just playing around, i also recieved a 79 mustang 5.0 and im planning on doing a total restoration of it, yours truley is a beautiful car. idk why i posted that before, but i apologize.
@NiceGuyAC The paint has held up great! I keep it always clean and waxed. and buff it whenever it's necessary. I'm expecting that since It's always garage-kept I won't have to worry about any issues with the paint.
nice car but not crazy about the rims,,black cobra R rims would've been the way to go...painting the interior was a bad idea....and come on its a notch wings are bad for the look of a notch and that might be the worst wing ive seen on a restore! but other than that good job
@EarthAngel916 You have to remember that it is not your car and he can put what he wants its a good looking car if you wanna bitch about peoples car's type in honda civic or rice burner.. Which is probably what you drive
Just curious...how much did the whole project cost you? I've got an old one myself (posted a video of it on here too) that I'm hoping to restore, but worried about finances!
Nice, but it kills me that you painted over the old wood grain in the dash... My '83 has it and it hasn't even faded much over almost 30 years... Oh well, still looks good though.
@speedtrap100 Thanks, Runs pretty good. Its got enough power to make me happy. I dont know exactly how quick it is because I havent taken it to a strip or had it dynoed yet,
@poilenese Ford never made Cobra coupes from the factory. They were all hatchbacks, I decide to make mine a cobra just because there was never a cobra coupe, so i guess you could say that my stang a "limited edition".
our opinions are irrelevant about your car. never the less. she is an incredible looking set of wheels. very nice job you did there. i myself own an 83 former texas dps police car. lot of fun. however i have been rather dormant with cars lately myself. no interest in them right now. maybe in the future.
By the way, personally, my dream model of the Mustang is this: a 1993 GT Cobra Mustang body, with a Saleen tail spoiler, a 1979 302 engine block with flat pistons and a 4 bbl carburator, 93 Mustang GT headers independent or X-pipe 2.5 or 3 inch exhaust tubes, 2.5 or 3 inch dual flowmaster mufflers, a manual 5 speed tranny, 1.5 inch lowered suspension, and very wide read tires (270's perhaps )... Dosnt that sound great? ( I am building myself one like that )
Great job you did on this 79 Mustang, I have always thought that the carburated versions of the 80's Mustangs are the best sounding and more powerfull engines there where on the Mustang ( powerfull because they carried a lot of torque, with is the fun part in drag racing, the one that fistails the car) and although your model is great, I think adding some floor effects spoilers would make it look absolutelly lethal, congrats on your car its great
Dont really like that coupe style of the STang but sure looks clean.. about around how much was invested in it??.. I picked up a 1980 Hatchback from an old man in my block but i cant seem to find one dat looks like it .. they all have the hood scoop but not the spoiler like mine.. anyways im gettin mine painted a Turquoise blue in two weeks other than dat i still have the original 255 CI engine all clean its alright for an everyday ill thrown in dat 302 when this one gives out
my dads restoration of his 88 is almost done bought the car for 375 dollars on 90k miles from an older lady it was totaled but since my dads job is body work hes a good one at that we did all the body work for free and hes a certified masters mechanic to so we did all of it our selfs accept some some help he had from his help toeing to his shop at work im gonna post of video from start to finish and show you when its done
looks kool one of the nices ones around, wish u didnt put the wing, and also put diff rims like cobra 5 lugs or gt's or even black with chrome lip bullits would look nasty with 10.5 out back hahah its jus everyone and there moms puts those same wheels on 90s below... now im jus goin crazy thats a bad ass color though good job
@BLKustoms Thanks! Finally someone understands the point of the spoiler. It's unique! That's the whole point. You don't see it often. The goal with this car was to make it like no other. Thanks again
great looking car man im in the process of redoing a 79 hatchback i was wondering if you have any suspension work done to that baby or not? and what size rims and tires.
@1989stangGT yeah the rear suspension now has air shocks, which gives its a super smooth ride, and the front suspension is stock. I dont know the wheel and tire size off the top of my head (because the rears are taller and wider than the fronts) but I will look at them tomorrow and message you the sizes.
My father purchased a 1979 Cobra in 1979 when I was just a kid. Beautiful silver exterior with maroon leather interior. 5.0 302 that would send you sideways in all four gears if you jumped on it.
Your's is really nice. Maybe consider getting a NOS rear window louver... makes it look so sweet.
@gener8tr, Thanks, and yes I think a NOS louver would look awesome on it, I'm concidering purchasing it this summer. the only thing holding me back from buying one now is the cost! haha.
And 79 Pace cars are a dime a dozen. I know of about 10 in the small town I live in. Cobras are hands down the best. Plans for mine include a 427 stroker.
Thanks. And yes, I do know that Ford never made Cobra notchbacks from 79 to 81. The car came with a cobra hood, so I decided to make it the only '79 Mustang Cobra Coupe.
And one other thing, your '79 Mustang is pretty cool, but it's just a nother indy pace car, I've seen like a million of them, that's why I say mine is the best looking, cuz it's an original design, and you'll never see another one like it.

Nice restoration job, excellent choice of an exterior colour. The engine detail looks nice, too bad you didn't carry it over to the tranny.
Just a minor correction, all '79 to '81 Cobra's were three door hatchbacks. Ford did not build Cobra notchy's.
And by the way, I have the best looking '79 Mustang on Youtube ;-)
