  • she telling da truth°

  • i was very young when i saw this movie for the first time and this scene specifically showed me how greatful could be helping pipl majority stay away or how that could be a kind of mission to fill my days...

  • classic <3

  • The heavenly voice AND message, pulling her hands from her face to let her smile, how can 14 people be so utterly heartless and soulless.

  • WHAT SOUL COULD DISLIKE THIS HEAVENLY VOICE.

  • ,,,,,, z&azzztzzzz#za!

  • Love this song! love it when she stuck her tongue out to those women too! lol you go Miss Celie

  • I love this song it makes me love my sisters even more lol its a beautiful song.

  • What Was The Song Shug Sung Before This Onee ??

  • MY HEART IS FULL WHEN I LISTEN THIS AMAZING SONG

  • What Song Did She Sing Before This One ?!?!?

  • Essa Musica me trás boas

    recordações.

Meu irmão venho correndo falar dessa musica!!

    E toda historia!

    Que nunca Separariam a gente!!

    Mas..

  • awe i love Celie's happiness!!

  • Love this song, love this movie!!!

  • I love this song and sing it to my concerts. See my channel! Thanx!

  • This song brings me to tears.

  • I did not realize that Tata Vega was the voice behind the movie on this song. She has amazing flexibility.

  • @Flextones I know, right? All this time i thought Maragaret Avery had the voice of an agnel. :-/ Oh well. She's still a great actress that brings Shug to life. And as far as the movie goes, that IS Shug Avery and that IS her voice. Woo!

  • fantastic song

  • Comment removed

  • Wonderfull!

  • Did Tata Vega write this tune?

  • i love that part at the end when she sticks her tongue out at the disrespectful ass ladies! cracks me up every time i see it! XD

  • great movie, great actors, great story, great song!!!

  • Shug Avery is by far one of the most amazing characters in cinema history

  • Whoopi is awesome heartbreaking good!

  • This is beautiful, Shug is my all time favourite character, her relationship with Celie is incredible <3

  • look @ his face from 0:11-0:18. Looool Miss Celie taking the piss out of them girls 2:35

  • Love this song this song go out to my baby sister deonna love u sister

  • Does anyone know the song she sang before this one ......

  • Whoppi is amaizing in this movie.... amaizing.

  • just love this song:)

  • P.S. MF EliteMrBubble...I bet you POP in about 10 seconds. Enough said.

  • To the MF Elite Mr. Bubble...Why would an Idiot like you even listen to this song?? You obviously don't get the meaning of the song. Did you watch the movie to pacify some unsuspecting Woman with the hope of sexually using her for your own needs ?? I would bet that you are another chauvinistic dick wad that looks down upon Women. Your name says it all.

  • i love this scene, I almost bawled first time i saw it

  • love this song...stays in head all day :)

  • This is kinda..... Stupid..

  • Why is this song NOT in the musical? COME ON! This song needs to be in it. It's GOLD and a pivotal moment in the story :-/

  • no filme esta cena me fez chorar muuito...memorável!

  • Fabulous!!!

  • ...alot of people talk about how "The Color Purple" was snubbed in the acting categories, how about this song was nominad for Best Song AND LOST as well...this was a big "OH OH" moment for the Academy who tried to "right their wrongs" by giving Whoopi the Oscar in '91, Speilberg the Oscar for Shindler's List, and Oprah will be getting honored with an honorary one later on this year.

  • "sister, remember yo name..no, twisters gonna steal yo stuff away!"...Yeeeeeeesss!!

  • I would of given Meryl Streep best actress that year for Out of Africa, but this film should of won best picture. It's spiritual, emotional and just beautiful. The acting is terrific.

  • Marcou minha vida

  • I agree that this film should have won lot's of oscars, but who would have won best actor? No one knows because this cast is such an ENSEMBLE, everybody was sooo good. Every actor screamed "GIVE ME AN OSCAR!!! I wouldn't be able to choose who was best. To tell you the truth, I wish every movie had such perfect casting like this one. I couldn't picture anybody else in these roles. :O

  • My mom used to sing this song for me when i was younger.. I miss her a lot. But this song reminds me of her.

  • i cried when nettie got kicked out and celie was begging mister (albert) to have her stay

  • LOVE this part! And, look at Mister over there feeling guilty.

  • @CrownJewel32 Nawl, mister is jealous, lol

  • my mom cried when she watched this movie so i had to hold her tight

  • J'adore !

  • I loved this movie!!! It should have won many awards!!! All star cast....excellent acting....excellent story line. Thanks for sharing.

  • @TheAnn1948 It was Whoopi Goldberg's first role in a movie and she has never done anything better since.

  • Favorite movie!

  • That's right "Mr."! Hold your head down in shame lol this song is great and every time I watch this movie I cry my eyes out. This movie is a perfect example of how the Oscars ignores "Black" films(No Racial)

  • 3:40…. hmmmmm mmmmmm!!! *click fingers in Z formation

  • Thank you! My favorite movie! I love Whoopi Goldberg!

  • JAMÁS ME CANSARÉ DE ESCUCHAR ESTA CANCIÓN. REALMENTE HERMOSA

  • "So let me tell you something sistah,

    Remember your name,

    No twistah,

    Gonna steal your stuff away!"

    My alltime favourite part <333!

  • this song is mine and my sisters favorite song still, after all these years and I listen to it and cry everytime!!

  • Truly such a beautiful movie. Almost moves me to tears whenever i watch it.

  • Great song from my ALL time favorite movie.

  • Her name is not tata vega!

  • @nokeshi The actress's name isn't but the singer of the song is. The actress who playes Shug is only lip syncing. The voice of Tata Vega actually sings the song.

  • "This song I'm bout to sang is called Miss Celie's Blues....cause she scratched out my head when I was ailin'...." I absolutely love this movie (and the book).

  • illgobby, lmfao. So do I.

  • O LOVE IT SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO MUCH

  • gggguuuulll!!!

  • In the book I remember Celie saying that Shug looked like a queen, this scene pulled thatoff perfectly!!!

  • whoopi is soooo cute i love her... love this scene, amazing voice, dont get that kind of voice very often

  • I do love this song but then again, you can't live anywhere near New Orleans and NOT love this type of music. My oldest daughter, after some convincing, sang this song for the residents at a respite care center. I only wish she loved the blues as much as I do; she's got the talent & w/practice & voice lessons, she could be great, not as great as this but she could do well...

  • la canción es fantastica, la pelicula es fantastica, las actrices son fantasticas... en fin una de las mejores peliculas que he visto

  • Sistaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa! When I saw this movie as a little girl, I never put two and two together until later. Lol.

  • @JMU1023 Well, then can you elaborate for me from one sista to another? lol

  • who is this woman?!

    i love her voice

  • @adexus10 thats not her actual voice. shes lip syncing.

  • @adexus10 The womans voice is Tata Vega the actress is lipsyncing.

  • One of the best movies EVER made. Two thumbs up!!!

  • i always thought it sad that she always covers her smile after he said it was ugly, someone told that same thing to my grama and she covers her smile to this day.

  • The best moment on film! Period!

  • It's hard to get me upset, but this movie made me shed a few tears. Classic film.

  • I love this song!!!! I have to call my lil sister, big sister, and my gurls that I call my sista ... and sing my heart out to them for this song!!!!

  • Next to Nettie, Shug was one of the only other people in The Color Purple who reminded Celie that she was worth something more than how she was treated.

  • Deux personnalités opposées, deux passés et deux façons d'aimer, et pourtant je suis tout autant Shug que Miss Célie... Ca dépend des jours... :)

  • i think michelle can kill this song...

  • lmao at 2:00 minutes husband mad as hell in the background.

  • I don't know if Mr. was the biggest insect or his father Adolph-what-is-face...they both sucked as human being go.

  • whoopi is such a great actress, definitely :´)

  • You go sista !!!!

  • Sister, you've been on my mind

Sister, we're two of a kind

So, sister, I'm keepin' my eye on you.

    I betcha think I don't know nothin'

But singin' the blues, oh, sister,

Have I got news for you, I'm something,

I hope you think that you're something too

  • @masstintin I think I heard it before.

  • @masstintin Scufflin' I been up that lonesome road And I seen a lot of suns goin' down Oh, but trust me No low life's gonna run me around So let me tell you somethin' Sister Remember your name No twister, gonna steal your stuff away My sister, sho' ain't got a whole lot of time So shake your shimmy, Sister 'Cause honey this shug is feelin' fine!

  • WONDERFUL

  • HAPPY BIRTHDAY SISSSSSSSSTAHHHHH CARLA MULLINS!!!!!!!!

  • One of the best parts in the whole movie...... Still love the movie too.

  • My mom and her sisters were very close. they took this track, made a cd, and each of the 5 got a copy. It reminded them of how close they were, and how they would stick together no matter how many ups and downs this life had to offer. Unfortunately my mom has now passed, and this song makes me cry thinking about her, and what she taught us about loyalty to family. I still hear her voice sing this song to us. Love you always, Lady T!

  • I love her Character in the movie.... Although I thought It was a bit strange when she kissed Celie lol :P

  • i love this song it remind me of my cusin quita she is lyk my sis......she act lyk the big sis which she is da older cusin...............

  • when celie stuck her tounge out she was like yeah bitches

  • When I first heard this song while watching the movie I couldn't believe it.I can't discribe the feeling I got but it was somewhere along the lines of a dream, like I wasn't really hearing it.I don't know why or how that happened and it has never happened to me before during a movie and the weird part is that after listening to it a thousand times I still get that feeling.Man that song is EPIC !!!!!!!!

  • Thanks so much for this clip from this great movie!!!! Love this song.

  • I just love this song,,,,, make me think of my big sister, RIP, KRC, love u girl.....

  • Happy Birthday Licia x ma x

  • can u get this as mp3?

  • i love the whoopi's eyes while she's singing to her!

  • "no low-life is gonna run me around!" Love it!!!

  • As far as I'm concerned, Spielberg still owes us a full musical. A few great musical scenes here and there don't cut it anymore :) !

  • Shug actually says ,"This song I'm 'bout to sing is called Miss Celie's Blues 'cause she scratched it out my head when i was ailin'." Not scratched up. Celie literally scratched Shug's head, combing her hair and takig care of her when she was sick.

  • @chocolatepaisley Its a southern expression. Shug didn't mean that phrase litterally. It has to do with how Celie healed her and brought her back to life.

  • @Cuseshorty87 NO BLACK PEOPLE LITERALLY SCRATCH THERE SCALP WITH A COMB LOLZ!!!!

  • Yasss Shug!!!! Sistah!!!!!!!!!

  • Miss Tata Vega - does the voice over on this. A world class singer...love Tata Vega!

  • 0:13 what does she say there??? she did what wen she was ailing ????

  • @RaeRae914 miss celie scratched up shugs hair, wenn she was ill.

  • @cannotrackz oh and whats scratched up mean?? sorry im Irish i cant understand this english ,,thanks for ur reply though xx

  • @RaeRae914 do you know the scene when shug lays in the bath, celie takes her hair, and then celie beginns to sing a melodie...

and the beginning of "miss celies blues" is the same melodie as celie singed in the bath :)))

thats the reason she says: CAUSE SHE SCRATCHED UP MY HAIR WHEN I WAS ILL!!! :)))))

she means: SHE WAS THERE FOR ME WHEN I WAS SAD!!

  • @cannotrackz Ahhh ok thanks only took 100 replys for me to get it ,,,lol thanks hunni xx

  • Love it.

  • This scene is so friggin' beautiful and powerful! Superb acting all around!

  • Whoopi is so CUTE in this scene.

  • I still don't understand why color purple? What special want to say about this color in this movie?

  • @rgegu05 ...research and you'll get it. It's really clear as day. Even the fact that Shug is in "red" singing the 'blues" pertains to the color purple. But there are plenty of references if you can catch them.

  • Miss Celie was beaten up and broken down mentally and physically. No woman should have to endure what she did. Always in my heart Miss Celie. I got your back. <3

  • @Kell1295 that's why i loved this book and movie. So many black women in those days were beaten mentally and physically. Black men were being beaten by society, and many took it out on their wives.. so in essence black women were not only invisible to society but beaten by their men, it's a lot to endure.. that's why this movie was all about black women lifting each other!

  • @octoberstarify This is so true. My grand mother grew up during those times. She was lucky to have a spouse who felt that mistreating your wife, mother of your children was a sin worse than any other. She would tell me about the less fortunate women who had to endure daily verbal, physical and mental abuse. Why would a man treat his woman this way? I always felt that you should take your anger out on the person you're really angry with, not your loved ones. God save us from the men. <3

  • Shug like honey... and now i's just like a bee so i fallows shug everywhere.

  • lol lol i love this movie love this song top three movies of all time foe me.makes me fell proud to be black love this movie
