Black men were being beaten by society, and many took it out on their wives.. so in essence black women were not only invisible to society but beaten by their men, it's a lot to endure.. that's why this movie was all about black women lifting each other!

She was lucky to have a spouse who felt that mistreating your wife, mother of your children was a sin worse than any other. She would tell me about the less fortunate women who had to endure daily verbal, physical and mental abuse. Why would a man treat his woman this way?
