NOT THE BEST PERIOD IN THE GLERS HISTORY. STILL,JJ IS DOING A STIRLING JOB, THATS THE BEST I CAN SAY ABOUT THIS REALLY. GLAD THEY ARE BACK ON FORM POST 2006.
one of the great punk songs...by one of the great original punk bands..with a bass player up there with John Paul jones, Sting, Deacon...and then Simon Cowell's younger brother comes on stage and commits murder...how could The Stranglers let this happen?
That singer whom The Stranglers deemed to have sing 4 them,.....YES,!!!! Now let me see, just exactly who that was that wanted 2 employ him 2 sing 4 them was it....their manager....NO ...was it....Huw Cornwell...NO.....was it.....The BBC.....NO,yet again.....so WHOOOOOO was it........YES !!---BINGO!!!!!!..........It was JJ and.......THE STRANGLERS .....That's who's fault it was ,yes it was their choice and their choice alone ---it must have been their fault !!!!
Singer looks like he's in a boy band, and if this had any semblance of Stranglers past, all them girls with fiddles would be in basques and suspenders not dressed like peace camp dykes.
Why did roberts leave? i was at guilfest and they had to change to JJ all of a sudden . plus while i was there hugh did his bit, so in a strange way i watched two lots of stranglers...weird. but still great!
Of all the "Live Sewer versions" the All Live Day/night is my all time favourite.Lets not forget kiddies,we were Teenagers when Rattus was for sale in the local Boots Chemist.................Time flies by when your getting old ;-)
i for one think the stranglers are better since cornwall left, paul was an amazing singer and i think the albums he recorded have been the stongest and they were much better live because he had an amazing presence and was a very good singer, since he left baz has filled the void and although i thought suite 16 was a weak album i went to see them live a few weeks back and they were better than i have ever seen them so all these people saying they should have given up when hugh left are idiots
Compared to the original Rattus recording I think they play most of these live versions too fast. In so doing the phraseology is lost. The instrumental section beginning at 510 is to me the most powerful piece of music ever. When it is hurried it loses that heavy hitting feel. I agree that the David Bowie imprersonator does not really embrace the men in black ethos but I see potential. Love the machine gun guitar work.. 5 10 couldn't help wondering why Oliver Stone's Apocalypse came to mind.
Who's the boring grumpy bastard on Lead guitar? Not bad song but what a boring cunt that grey haired guy on Lead looks!!! Nice tits in the orchestra too!! The lead singer looks a bit of a bigheaded wanker!!!
he has good voice...he is good singer...just his style is more for a band like Take That, than for classic rockers as The Stranglers!!!he looks more like a pop idol!!
i listened to some of there new stuff by accident not long ago. it was hidious. but then again, i think alot of there stuff after la folie was gash, so maybe im just being a dick haha
black and white period was when they where at there best
Actually in essence you are right, La Folie and in part some of Feline was when they were still edgy and artful - after that it was too produced and commercially sounding pop with the horns - ouch (Always the Sun and North winds the only exceptions)
Oh ffs. Paul Roberts is nothing like Hugh Cornwell. He's Paul Roberts. You'll be pleased to know he's left the Stranglers now and Baz is on vocals (and is better)
When will people get over the fact Hugh left the Stranglers? Get over it!
God I hate this. Compare this and Stranglers NOW. Paul Roberts is a nice chap but he wasn't for the Stranglers. John Ellis I've never really liked, but hey...Stranglers were shot even with Hugh post Dreamtime imho, so I'm glad PR and JE help keep things alive until now. The Stranglers are at their very finest now, certainly since post Dreamtime.
Is it empty Diet coca cola cans. I worry about his teeth. Mind You, I reckon the amount of methadone that he went through, his teeth were bladdered anyway.
No Hugh on guitar/vocals, strangled sub-Greenfield keys, a bored lookin' guitarist and an "action man" frontin' don't do it for me (to say the least). The Stranglers, to my mind, were an equal alliance of 4 quarters - it just doesn't work with 2 missing!
Fine song and good to see Jet & JJ still goin' strong though.
Hugh is better.. But i love this performance! Its my favourite down in the sewer performance. But yeah i agree with most that Roberts isn't as good as hugh.
waaaa hahahahaha i was watching the video thinking how much better the lads are without John Ellis and when I saw the bit you pointed out I nearly shat meself..At least he wasnt wearing that fukn medallion he wore a lot..the twonk
You're right for this band but not for the original one.
Music is not only made with "playing technic" ... for me, a rock band is linked to the energy thrown to the audience.
What i see here is sad ghosts of the original Stranglers (excepted bassist and drummer). They used to be noiser and more electrified with 4 musicians !
And all these keyboards won't replace the 2 they used to have.
Look at the guitarist ??? He is thinking "i want to go home, kiss my wife and sleep ..."
roberts was never very good at singing the songs hugh sang but he was a fantastic singer in his own right, some of the stuff on Norfolk Coast is better than Cornwell's efforts since the late 70s.
