My father is dying of bone cancer which is terribly painful. I would be FOR euthanasia in his case. Life goes on... it does not end at physical death. Why make these people suffer any longer than they can endure?
It's a rough topic. There's points on every side of it. I have a hard time with people telling me how I need to live my life, and especially taking my own decisions and freedoms from me, but I have an even harder time with the notion that we can place value on life -and when said value is not profitable or enjoyable anymore, all of a sudden life itself is no longer valuable. It's the debate between the literal liberty to hang yourself with your own rope of freedom.
If I want to end my life after an informed decision, It should be my choice. If you disagree with that, you're probably an inbred retard, because how the hell do you think you should make such an important decision for me, you idiot? Most people involved with supporting the right to choose whether to live or die have watched a loved one die, usually slowly and in pain. Most of us would put an animal down if it was suffering/could no longer walk/defecate without it being into a bag. Most of us would feel the loss of that animal, too, but would feel relief at ending their pain and suffering. Without quality of life, there is no life.

I believe that primarily, take the person's consent, secondarily, take the family's consent, and finally the consent of a medical professional. If all of these people agree that the person is suffering, and that their life quality is terrible, and that it can't improve, euthanasia should take place. If the person is unconscious for a given period of time, then the family and medical professional should make an agreed decision depending on the condition of the patient.

haha well i am a Christian, but I do know what I believe. I don't blindly follow. I try to be as rational and sound as i can always. For example, I sorta believe that whatever religion brings you closest to God is okay. I still like to believe in the Lord, Jesus and holy spirit, however, so I label myself as a Christian. I don't think some of the people commenting here realize that Euthanasia almost always takes place only through the person's consent. The family does not just take away their loved ones life if they "think" they are sick and dying. It is the dying person's choice. (unless the person in question is unconsious)
@rovington Learn what you're talking about before posting a comment. Hospitals will ONLY euthanise a patient without their consent if the person is in a coma state, and there's no likely chance of then waking up even though they would be alive. (or if surgey or work is possible to keep someone alive after an accident, lets say, but it's unlikely to succeed.) Then in that case, the responsiblity is handed over to the family, where they make the decision on behalf of the patient.

@grant8220 it's the persons sole choice we don't get a say in it. My grandfather was euthanised because of the 3 years of unbearable pain he went through. in the end he himself decided his life was too painful and went peacefully. We can't decide what is right until we are in their position

I'm Christian, I believe God loves me. I loved my sweet cat, Bandit, SO much. He had wet FIP & was suffering.There is no hope with wet FIP,once it starts death will follow. Miserable, suffering death. I loved him so much, I would not let him suffer.God's love is supposed to be greater than any other. My grandfather was a firm believer. He was diagnosed with terminal lung cancer and experienced terrible, excruciating pain. Painkillers didn't really work, and he begged my father to assist him in suicide. My poor dad couldn't do it, and before death, my grandfather went mad from pain.

Sadly in the western world and the UK in particular this is something most of us will face, as many more will live to 100. Is this really what the NHS or any medical care groups envisaged when they set up their hospitals? Here in the USA we already have a wonderful option available - Hospice! Several of my elderly relatives with terminal and potentially painful diseases were kept very comfortable to the end with care designed to prevent pain and to assist breathing. They went very peacefully, but no one actively killed them. For those of us who believe that only God creates life and that only He has the right to end that life, hospice is a terrific alternative.

FYI2: I have taken part in two such versions in the last 10 years in medical school in Europe at 2 different faculties, 2 different countries, and the oaths being taken by the students were (a) different and (b) different from the classical oath. Why can't healthy people also have the right to die? Why the hell do I see so many videos that are pro suicide in the invent of of terminal illness but not in the invent of overwhelming mental illness? Sometimes those that are overwhelmingly mentally ill such as myself lose independence to some degree are emotionally in pain become a burden on their family and friends while the family/ friends have to watch us suffer are forced to go the counseling,take meds,live with a stigma! YES, i'd prefer to LIVE (even like this) than die. i hope that in that case i wouldn't be a burden to my children and they would do it for me. so far we only have one child and another one is on it's way but i'm hoping that when the time comes and we need care of our children, they will be there for us. if not, then we'd have to go elsewhere but no matter what circumstances, i'd rather live. God gave me life, I'll let him decide when he wants me to die. I'll put my trust in his plans with me.

Euthanasia should be a right for anyone with pain, illness that puts one in a wheelchair for life, S.C.I., A.L.S., M.S., P.S.P., for example, dementia, stroke, anyone who needs care, Incontance, disfigurement, Major mental illness hearing voices. Need to be on any machines, feeding tubes, Needing a nursing home ect should be a right. A right not to suffer. I don't mean to save the goverment money or insurance, people have a right to live also besides to die.

Most people involved with supporting the right to choose whether to live or die have watched a loved one die, usually slowly and in pain. Most of us would put an animal down if it was suffering/could no longer walk/defecate without it being into a bag. Most of us would feel the loss of that animal, too, but would feel relief at ending their pain and suffering. Without quality of life, there is no life.

I believe that primarily, take the person's consent, secondarily, take the family's consent, and finally the consent of a medical professional. If all of these people agree that the person is suffering, and that their life quality is terrible, and that it can't improve, euthanasia should take place. If the person is unconscious for a given period of time, then the family and medical professional should make an agreed decision depending on the condition of the patient.

I don't think some of the people commenting here realize that Euthanasia almost always takes place only through the person's consent. The family does not just take away their loved ones life if they "think" they are sick and dying. It is the dying person's choice. (unless the person in question is unconsious)

Hospitals will ONLY euthanise a patient without their consent if the person is in a coma state, and there's no likely chance of then waking up even though they would be alive. (or if surgey or work is possible to keep someone alive after an accident, lets say, but it's unlikely to succeed.) Then in that case, the responsiblity is handed over to the family, where they make the decision on behalf of the patient.

Sadly in the western world and the UK in particular this is something most of us will face, as many more will live to 100. Is this really what the NHS or any medical care groups envisaged when they set up their hospitals? Just because we CAN help someone live to 100 dosnt mean we should, it causes immeasurable suffering and pain and a person should be able to choose about their own life, for some it wont be an option but for others it should. Here in the USA we already have a wonderful option available - Hospice! Several of my elderly relatives with terminal and potentially painful diseases were kept very comfortable to the end with care designed to prevent pain and to assist breathing. They went very peacefully, but no one actively killed them. For those of us who believe that only God creates life and that only He has the right to end that life, hospice is a terrific alternative.

As they overdosed this guy with morphine without this relatives knowing he died alone around 8 in the morning prior to him 10 mins prior he shouted a weak help I tried summon help to be with him in which I pressed I emergency button but no one came for half an hour I could not get out of bet myself as I had big huge pumps on my legs cont

@melkquelk And no 2: "No one is proposing that a patient force a physician to perform euthanasia" In the NL where I do live, many hospital codes of conduct DO force medical doctors to perform euthanasia if the patients force physicians to perform euthanasia. I can say this from own family experience. And no 3: learn facts before being rude. Okay?

@FMGalaxy This is NOT murder and God (if he existed) does not have any rights over us, nor do the Church... how DARE anyone else tell us when we can and HOW we can die! It is up to US! God did not give us life... our PARENTS gave us life! Doctors can only do so much for people who are dying... if I was terminal, then I would want to die peacefully, not agonizingly and violently... wouldn't you?

The moment you die will be the moment your brain dies, and there will be no more memories or religious beliefs in there. They will die as your neural structures break down. You won't be religious anymore. Why is it so hard to think for yourself? To think rationally and be honest about life? What is wrong with people like you?

oh my God...all these images of old people. please government...legalize euthanasia so that i do not have to see old people constantly reminding me of my own mortality. please Western governments, condition your sick unthinking societies into believing that people of a certain age have no value and kill them when they can no longer work and pay taxes. Begin with cases of people terminally ill and progress to simply people past, say, 60 yearsold

Why can't healthy people also have the right to die? Why the hell do I see so many videos that are pro suicide in the invent of of terminal illness but not in the invent of overwhelming mental illness? Sometimes those that are overwhelmingly mentally ill such as myself lose independence to some degree are emotionally in pain become a burden on their family and friends while the family/ friends have to watch us suffer are forced to go the counseling,take meds,live with a stigma! We have rights 2!

@PGWARNER mhmm because hes made lots of those in recent times. Nice job 'God' in helping those people in Australia, a real miracle would be excepting that he is'nt going to help anyone and we should be able to take control of our own lives and not have some imaginary man in the sky tell us what we can and cant do.

YES, i'd prefer to LIVE (even like this) than die. i hope that in that case i wouldn't be a burden to my children and they would do it for me. so far we only have one child and another one is on it's way but i'm hoping that when the time comes and we need care of our children, they will be there for us. if not, then we'd have to go elsewhere but no matter what circumstances, i'd rather live. God gave me life, I'll let him decide when he wants me to die. I'll put my trust in his plans with me.

@marymyselfandme you cannot say you would rather live like this if you do not know what it feels like to be in that position. i work in a nursing home; i see this everyday...ppl just had enough and want things to end. i see this all the timeso you cannot say any different if you dont know.

@MsAppleofmyeye if you really mean this, then you can't say you'd rather die cause you've never been in that position either (as far as I know). we can only assume what those people feel BUT people should protect lives of human being, no matter what circumstances and there's always a chance as long as someone is alive. just because you work in a nursing home doesn't mean that you know what it feels like. however, I'm sure you've seen more than me cause I've never worked at such place.

unfortunatelly, our generation is much more comfortable than previous generations, we don't want to take care of anyone (even our parents), just the thought of doing so is a big burden to us :-( we're selfish and lazy.

oh please. i'm only 26 and i've already wanted to die a few times. if somebody killed me when i wanted to die the first time, i would have died as a teenager and i'm sure that a second after the death i would have regretted my wish. people naturally fight for survival, when they want to die, that means that something extraordinary is going on with their minds / bodies. this is the reason why they need help, not death.
