when i was young i played the violin. my music teacher that taught me to play if we got a note wrong would tread on our toes. i wounder how many of his toes have been crushed

I had the same problem but a year and a half ago I finally started. There is no way to top this but there is no need to be Kogan or Oistrakh to enjoy the violin. This is something I am learning now. It's great to be able to simply see yourself improving everyday because with daily practice this is exactly what happens. You improve everyday. My teacher is a very good violinist but he is no Kogan. There are only a handful of virtuoso but thousands of good musicians happy to play.
