It's the SNES version, known as Super Mario All-Stars. Super Mario All-Stars also contains Super Mario Bros., Super Mario Bros. 3, and the Japanese version of Super Mario Bros. 2, which is also known as Super Mario Bros.: The Lost Levels.
There's also a version of this game for GBA, which is known as Super Mario Advance.
This also happens when you throw the block at the vine/chain/ladder.

This Mario game is really underrated. I mean, it's probably my favorite Mario game.

In one of the desert levels you can endlessly copy the blocks. I'm not sure if it was in the NES version or the SNES version.
