  • Search here "oil storm" and watch the barrel overtake Dallas!

At all those who say "why pay double" (because solar is still too expensive, what are you going to do when prices go up do to fossil fueled depletion?

  • @skywake - I pay $0.0874 for kWh for electricity in MA from National Grid, and that is after the transition charge, Transmission charge, energy efficiency charge (tax), and renewable energy charge (a 2nd tax). Thus I am paying for wind power twice, and I have no choice in the matter according to Atty General Martha Coakley. If you're paying $0.20kWh for coal, you should check your math again. In MA we will be taxed a third time to fund CAPE WIND LLC, a Democrat boondoggle if there ever was.

  • JEFFREY IMMELT is a SCANDALOUS CEO. BOYCOTT GE until it assigns a new ceo with a new direction. Its raping its shareholders while it reaps the benefits! Say NO to GE.

  • This is something really great. And I admire Jeff for making a huge investment on renewable energy business when the gas prices were low. Its paying off now. He is a far-sighted visionary. - Sebastian

  • This is great. The renewable energy industry can (and if we support it) WILL get this country out of debt and on the right track.

As an added bonus, we might not all die horribly in Hothouse Earth.

  • This will not get the country out of debt, it is exactly the opposite. We will tax coal + oil so that GE can make billions selling windmills to farm cooperatives. Your grandchildren are going to pay for this. Google "cost per kilowatt hour coal gas wind solar" and learn somthing for once.

  • @yupoboy That's mostly because of the large upfront capital required to build infrastructure. Think about it this way: A 1.5kw solar system costs say $10k upfront and lasts for 25 years. I conservatively estimate that it would produce 45-54k units of power so the unit cost of power is 18-22c per unit. I currently pay 20c per unit for coal fired power which is before a carbon tax... and, like everywhere, prices for power here are expected to rise.
