And by the way, he actually got 2 weeks, which is fair for a shirt front, but because he had carry over points he got 3!!! Then the moron challenged the tribunal and got 4!!!! So, in reality it was a 2 match suspension- which i think is fair for a shirt front. Then, as always, Collingwood and it's supporters cried and stressed and danced on the streets; "this is outrage, i can't sleep at night!!! How, why???" and the AFL showed that it doesn't have the balls and bent over like a b.... as usual

I hate Collingwood so much, but I am glad Maxwell got off. That was totally within the rules; the ball was less than 5 metres away, McGinnity was clearly going for the ball, It was a good hip and shoulder, and the head high contact was minimal and accidental. If they take these things out of our game, we may as well convert our game to soccer.

As much as I would've loved to see another Collingwood player on the pine for 4 weeks, I'm really pleased this was overturned. Makes me sick watching all of these players lately playing for the high contact, putting their head down to initiate the contact when the tackler has no other legitimate option. Now I'm not saying McGinnity did this here, but it seems to me they are keen to save the bump and inject some common sense back into the adjudication of these situations.

also why would maxwell go for the ball he will only be able to run it over the line anyway. he blocked his team mate but i am pretty sure his team mate would have got to the ball in space (ie before mcginty) under no pressure. maxwell turned a disputed ball in to collingwood ball under no pressure (if it hadnt rolled out of bounds)

No, he hit the head which isn't legal so it wasn't a fair bump. If you watch, the eagles player head is moving down to get over the ball, Maxwell comes in with sole intention of bumping and so has to make sure he doesn't hit the head. This is spelt out in the AFL Rules DVD that Maxwell should have seen.
If you bump, its your responsiblity not to hit the head! End of story!

BUT, as Collingwood argued, it was a head clash that caused it. If a player has the ball and is tackled from behind, and the tackler's head hits his opponents and causes injury, will he get weeks for "negligent" impact? If they are consitent, then they have to rule that way.
Not to mention, even the Legal Counsel Jeff Gleeson agreed that "Maxwell had displayed good technique while shepherding", and yet it is still considered negligent and not accidental.... disgracefull!

The Law on bumping spells out that if you bump you must avoid the head if you had other options. The tackling law doesn't have those things in it. In fact if Maxwell had of tackled him, he problably would be okay. If he had of went the ball he would have been okay.!

I'm an Eagles fan and I would be outraged if one of my players got suspended for this bump. Looks totally fair to me... S**T HAPPENS sometimes its a knee, sometimes its a jaw, just like Hirdy back when he had the facial injuries. Maxwell wouldn't have meant it and I'm sure he probably feels bad about the overall outcome.
It's not like it was a Barry Hall sucker punch.... I say over rule the suspension and keep toughness in footy!!!
