I love all the Doctors. Matt is great. But everyone has their Doctor and Ten is *my* Doctor. Mostly because of the story arc and character development, but yes, also because Tennant is an awesome talent with amazing range. I adore the 4th Doctor as well, and see a bit of him in Ten from time to time.
This is my favourite episode because it deals with human curiosity and subverts all the cosmic horror clichés which I personally always found ignorant. Not only is this two-parter epic as hell, but it thrust the Doctor into a situation where his alien tech doesn't help him at all, compared to the beast, he's as 'puny' as the humans around him. He gets to show off his true qualities, those who come from his personality and intellect
The original will always be the best, even though it was older, and maybe less fashionable today it HAS to remain the best because it is the original!! without it you wouldn't be watching these episodes today so give it wraps!! I used to watch it when it was on at 5:30 on Abc (australia) and I'm only 14 I loved it back then and love the new ones... but ppl just don't appreciate the old ones like they should... Tom Baker was my fav :)
I respect the old series, but where I live was not broadcasted - never... I know there are DVD's out, but I don't have a work yet... Still, I respect it because it's the original like you said, because every concept on which the new is based was settled those years.. but I think there are far more haters of the new series than old ones...
@Poplolli131 Like Tom Baker was the original. Hartnell was. This show has, even in what they called the 'classic series' (which I would actually split into three main eras) has constantly been improving and adapting to modern standarts - if the show hadn't gotten BETTER but just worse and worse, it would have been canceled and forgotten.
I love both donna and martha, am looking forward to a fresh regeneration and wish matt smith luck, I thought the old series was ingenoius and the new is just brilliant, but you write me comments claiming me not to be a fan because I like rose. I am aware she is not the be all and end all, but you DON'T snog and consider living with someone you don't love. A true doctor who fan is someone who watches the show, and loves it and has opinions about it, not some who is critising everyone else !!!!
Oh yeah, and by the way the only reason I have never watched the old series is because i have opinions about it and was not quite old enough to catch it. I enjoy the new series and asses like you who go burstin ppls bubbles because they dont think the same about the show is just nasty! Cos there are many unanswered questions, everyone thinks something different to the show, stop oppressing that! This may be a suprise, but you dont have the answers to to those unanswered questions so zip it!
Regarding the third, I think it'll just take some getting used to. For those of us who haven't been able to watch the original series, we're probably VERY used to Tennant. He was my first Doctor, after all! But when I got around to watching the whole series, I got used to Eccleston, and I'm sure I'll come to appreciate Smith. Doesn't mean Ten won't hold a special place in my heart. :P
DW works because of the writing, directing and the acting. If I wasn't entertained and intrigued by DT's acting abilities, I wouldn't have taken the time to watch. I watched DW thirty years ago and didn't like DW didn't like the special fx, acting or the story line. With the new who, its more to my tastes. I wish DT wasn't leaving but I will watch 11 just to see his take on the character. Having said that, DT will always be "my doctor"

Stloidsphile, if you didnt like DW thirty years ago then you arent reall a DW fan at all, you only like it because of RTD's writing pandering to your lifeless philsiophies.

no offense to any of the dr.who fans but ...chris and rose made the show ...and if chris didnt leave dr.who ...well ...if your honest ...i dont have to go any further .....david tennant didnt thank chris then he should ..because it was chris and billie ...that made the start ...what do u think ..imop
Tenannt was my favourite doctor, he was just awesome. He's so dark at times, but he always slaps on a smile so he doesn't scare his companions and so he can go on.
Donna was my favourite companion, she had spirit and personality. Neither Rose nor Martha had a character beyond the doctor, everything they did they did it for the doctor, wereas Donna tries to help the other planets/races, like the doctor does. This can be seen in Fires Of Pompeii, when she disagrees with the doctor.
I've watched Doctor Who since '63. Each Doctor has his merits and demerits. Preference is personal. I do like Tennent's Doctor. After the loss of Rose he turns a little darker. Donna and Martha helped him but he needed Rose. Seeing her go off with the Donna/Doctor broke his heart. Losing Donna at the same time was just too much. To quote a song, "The show must go on. Inside my heart is breaking, my makeup may be fading, but my smile still stays on."
ouch why all the thumbs down. Rose just happens to be my favorite. I don't like Donna or Martha one bit. The Doctor even says so that Rose made him better. Oh well, at least I know I'm not the only Rose fan. I didn't mean that I don't like David, I actually love him. I was just stating the impact Rose had on him after the loss of his planet.
Ogm, i so agree! I liked donna, she made me laugh but while she made him hyper, she never made the doctor happy like rose did. Marhta was acceptable but did not make him happy. I thought i would never go on after chris but david is fantastic and now my fave doc. i get miffed when people do martha/doctor love stories because for cheeses sake, they weren't in love! she pushed, he backed away. donna was never like that, yay, and our darling rose was just right! Even he thought so, if he loved her.
Rose was a generic cipher. The Doctor didnt love her the way you think he did. "Love" has thousands of definitions. Rose loved The Doctor, true, but he ADMIRED Rose. He never said he loved her, it was always left ambigious. Even Metacrisis Doctor doesnt count because he's partially Donna's personality.
Rose is overrated. Women shouldnt admire characters like her, she takes her friends around her for granted just for the sake of a knight in shining armour. That ISNT love.
I agree. In fact, I personally feel he's a better Doctor than Chris Eccelston. I mean, Chris was OK, but David brings an infectious enthusiasm to the character that I can relate to.
i'm a fairly new fan to doctor who and i started watching when david was the doctor. when i started playing catch-up is when i saw the episodes with christopher eccleston. chris had his funny moments but i like david better. my friend actually says i act like the doctor played by david sometimes and i say that she acts like donna sometimes. she says i'm like him because the way i think and react to things. she's like donna because of some of the things she says and the way she says them. lol!
I also began with Tennant and then started watching Eccleston. I personally like Tennant's Doctor better, but I think they each played their parts extremely well. The Ninth Doctor had just come from a war, which he survived as the last of his race. He was therefore slightly broken and more than a little dark. After he met Rose, as he said, she made him better. The Tenth Doctor is far lighter and carefree. But both actors got the underlying "Doctor" personality exactly right.
I also prefer David. He's just got not even enthusiasm, but raw, POWERFUL talent that blows you away. As an (ameatuar) actor I have SO much respect for him, but I disagree with the happy/dark thing. He is happier, but anytime the war or Rose or any assistant he's lost is even touched upon, David's talent shows the most raw and heartbreaking pain. His pain is worse; therefore darker in its own way although overall he hides it more than Eccleston. But both brilliant, brilliant men.
(And I also think that the Doctor could have gotten by without Rose. IF Number Nine had just shown up a few seconds earlier he could have saved Wilson the Electrician from the Autons. And he would've given him the hand and they would've both saved the Earth, and who knows? The Doctor could've had a new best mate instead of some whiny little blonde fresh out of high school following her around--and if you don't think Rose is whiny just watch when she finds out there were others before her.

Of course you're going to like David better b/c his doctor is happier. You know why? Because of Rose. He had just come from Time War and lost all his people. Rose healed him and made him who David plays. If you're that happy after you lost you're entire planet then somethings wrong. I don't think I'll be watching Doctor Who anymore b/c Bille & David is gone. In fact I didn't watch any w/o Rose.
I'm an Eccleston fan. Tennant is a good actor, but his Doctor is a bit shallower than Eccleston had him. He's racier, sure, but the Doctor was never meant to be a sex symbol. A lot of the time it seems to me that they just have him to wild and crazy stuff just for the heck of it. Which is cool, but not good for character development.
Oh don't get me wrong I thought Eccleston was brilliant and really liked him too, but I just like Tennant more. I do agree with you that he is some of a sex symbol though. I think his character now is showing how Rose has changed him and made him better. I don't know that much about acting but I do know some and I can give my opnion.
I'm pretty sure they had Ecclestpn like that on purpose because the Time War had just ended and he lost everything but the TARDIS. So of course he was going to be dark. I do like Daivd better though...

True fans
-People who understand that Rose isnt the end-all/be-all and respect other companions and developments
-People who love the original AND modern series
-People who can get over a Doctor regenerating or a showrunner leaving
Fake fans
-The opposite of the above

You don't know who I am or what I did to make sure DW's Tom Baker visit to a convention here in St. Louis was a successful one for DW fans.
I wasn't a huge fan of the show then but I cared about the fans of the series and the Guest of Honor Tom Baker. Especially the Masqurade.
Real fans respect each others' opinions even if they don't agree. I am hoping with age and maturity you'll understand that.
But if you don't not a problem you're one of those people we SMOFs watch at conventions.
