  • What is this chant in the background? It sounds like Sunday at solemn vespers.

  • @PaedoProddies Fact: in December of 1936 it became law in Germany that all boys must join the HitlerJugend at age 10; though one could join willingly as young as age 6. Thus Ratz joined the HJ no later then April of 1937 at age 10; entering the senior part of the HJ at 14, thus entering Nazi military service.

By his own words in his biography, Ratz willingly joined the HitlerJugend.

As his dad worked for the SS the assertion that he was 'anti-Nazi' is beyond ludicrous.

  • At 0:56 is that one catholic family?

  • What version of the Magnificat is this???? I have never heard it.

  • He was so adorable! Which is the song?

  • I have no time for this pope, I am a Cristian too!.

  • @boscott THEN YOU ARE NOT A CHRISTIAN.

To Be Catholic you have to accept the Pope as head of the Church. In order to be Christian you must be Catholic. As St.Pius X said "Only Catholics are Christians"

  • @priest008 To be Catholic you must believe in & strive to LIVE the Gospel, the true core of which is the Sermon on the Mount & Beatitudes. If you do not or scoff at this, then you are not of the Kingdom.

All the masses, rosaries, novenas, etc. will do no good.....without the Gospel.

  • @19lfm12 of course the Gosepl is the most important. You don't seem to understand the Rosary then, the Rosary is literally praying the Gospel, all 20 mysteries taken from the Gospel, and whilst meditating the current mystery you pray the our father (also from the Gospel) then you pray a Hail Mary (also taken from the Gospel)..........The rosary is a fast road to salvation.

  • @priest008 You do not comprehend the Gospel. Unless you strive to LIVE the Sermon on the Mount & Beatitides, you are not of God.No matter what 'group' you belong to or how much (false) external piety you do.

And you would thus have NO Faith!

Saying the Rosary without Faith is pointless. Ditto for any other 'pious practice'.

Jesus clearly teaches that those who say 'Lord,Lord' will not be saved, as they are not of the Kingdom. The ONLY Key to the Kingdom is to live the Gospel.

  • @priest008 The Rosary does not = the Gospel. It alone will not save you - not without Faith.

The only 'Keys' given to the Apostles are the Gospel itself; the core of which is the Sermon on the Mount & Beatitudes. LIVE this & you unlock the Kingdom of Heaven; & are of the Kingdom.

"The Kingdom of God is within you; not in buildings made of stone".

If you do not live the Gospel, then you do not love God & neighbor. He who does not live the Gospel - Jesus shall deny you before the Father.

  • @19lfm12 The Rosary= Gospel praying and meditation, try it out! take all the mysteries and as you meditate on a particular mystery for ex: the crucifixion, you pray the hail Mary's and our fathers. Regarding buildings, I think we all know that a building can't save you but your own faith in Christ and his Gospel. The sacraments are a MUST for salvation and Christ makes his clear in the Gospel "unless you eat my body and drink my blood....." & "unless ye be baptised..."

  • @priest008 Saying the Rosary without Faith will NOT help you. Ditto for any other prayers. If you remain Blind toe the Truth of the Holy Spirit, these are empty words.

...and obviously, you are yourself, quite Blind.

  • @priest008 The Sacraments mean NOTHING without Faith, which = LIVING the Gospel. Reception of them while NOT living the Gospel is Duplicity....& God is not mocked. Such is self-condemnation, which applies to MANY priests & laity. And Prelates.....

Jesus made it very clear: "I demand MERCY; not sacrifice', indicating the ONLY religion acceptable to God, as described in Isaiah 58. If you do not live this yet use God as a talking point, mouthing empty prayers, you are doomed.

  • @19lfm12 Yes but I didn't mention that because what you speak of is obvious. It is obvious that the reception of the Eucharist without having faith is pointless and sacrilegious. Indeed many priests bishops and laity are condemned as our Lady had pointed out also.

  • @priest008 No - it is NOT 'obvious', as most Catholics have not the slightest clue of what the Gospel is. They have been conditioned into thinking that: 'obey clergy/bishop/pope/vatican = go to heaven'. Nothing could be further from the Truth of the Holy Spirit.

Reception of ANY sacrament without Faith (which = NOT living the Gospel) is mocking God. The reality is that very few 'pious pew sitters' will be saved. Because their 'faith' was in externals. Not in God.

  • @priest008 Jesus did not come for the 'pious ones'; He came for those who knew not God yet would live His Gospel; even if they never heard of it.

The 1st ppl whom God brought to see the infant Christ were non-believers...impious...considered low, bestial, & even gay......Shepherds. The 2nd ones were literal wizards/occultists/pagans: the Magi. These are whom God loved most

To he who is given much (i.e. those raised in Faith), much is expected..& far greater punishment for not heeding Jesus.

  • @19lfm12 What does gay have to do with a sheppard? The use of Shepard is a symbolic gesture, Shepard are used continuously in the Bible to show the care of a father to his children as a sheppard for his flock. Gay Sheppard he says............................The magi again are a symbolic gesture as Kings. They were kings. As Jesus born a King he deemed that he too be visited by Royal Kings from far and wide to show that their authority comes through him. They maybe have been non believers...

  • @priest008 You are cognitively challenged & clueless of social/cultural context! Shepherds were considered & the 1st century as now to be freaks, bestial, even gay. They were non-religious at best....

Magi is the plural of the Latin 'Magus'; a sorcerer, wizard, high occultist or literal witch. They were literal Pagans.

The point was to show that God was more interested in these then the self-appointed 'pious ones' of Judea.

Political authority DOES NOT come from God!

  • @19lfm12 .....but as you said they still visited him and he was happy by it. But as Christ taught us we too must teach. With the words of Christ that man not be saved unless he be baptised, or that unless we eat his flesh and drink his blood, for his flesh is real food and his blood real drink, and to do this in memory of him, thus the Church with her divine authority proclaims that Christ is clear that those outside the Church can't be saved (provided they are aware of Christ)

  • @priest008 You twit! GOD invited the shepherds & Magi to visit HIM, incarnate as a baby. He did NOT invite anyone else; for good reason: THESE were the ones whom He loved & was concerned for. As He created them & knew their hearts would respond to Him, as they were open to Him, they were invited.

    NOT the pious ones!!!

You are utterly clueless of Christ & the Gospel.

  • @priest008 And.....when the Roman soldiers were making Jesus carry the cross to Calvary & saw that He was too weak to carry it, they forced Simon, a Cyrenian, to help him....a literal PAGAN. Legitimate mystics have told that Simon at first resisted, but was moved to pity by the condition of Jesus.

It was not the soldiers who chose Simon, a Pagan, to help the suffering Messiah, but God. As He is in control of all. Showing clearly whom He really loved.

Convert to Christ - leave Opus Dei.

  • @priest008 NO - the Rosary is not 'praying the Gospel'. God is not mocked! The Gospel is to be LIVED...not a talking point; not mere words in empty prayers of Opus Dei groupies.

The core of the Gospel is the Sermon on the Mount & Beatitudes; these summarize all Jesus' teaching,in fulfillment of the Old Testament. He who LIVES those teachings is of the Kingdom. He who does not, while pretending to be 'pious' is destined for perdition.

  • To the person below - Michaelmorley - who thinks I am sad and deluded and who has responded in similar ways to others: Joseph Ratzinger has always fought against sex abuse of minors by priests. He did so when at the CDF. The present smear campaign is against him personally and it must stop.

  • @Wellymary1 "Joseph Ratzinger has always fought against sex abuse of minors by priests. He did so when at the CDF. The present smear campaign is against him personally and it must stop."

How about the child abuse? Should that stop too?

  • @Wellymary1 There is no 'smear campaign', only the manifestation of Truth:

Ratzinger is the architect of the Vatican orchestrated global coverup of sex abuse; wherein all bishops were ordered to conceal abuse & refuse to cooperate with police. There is hard copy proof of this now.

  • VIVA IL PAPA!!!

  • @Audinos Grow up.

  • When I read this kind of comment about Pope Benedict, it brings to my mind certain passages from Matt 7 "first take the plank out of your own eye " and from John 8 "let he who is without sin cast the first stone". Joining this organisation was more than obligatory in Nazi Germany.

  • @jpitera123 ".... let him who is without sin first cast a stone..." From "The woman Taken in Adultery " Is a known Christain forgery inserted into the Gospel.

  • Didn't he join the Hitler Youth?

  • God bless B16.

  • i love you pope benedict

  • May God blesses him, he's firm enough to rule the Catholic world! And not only!

  • The people who criticize Pope Benedict for being a "Nazi" should first get their history straight, and then reflect on what they would've done if they were in his situation as a child. Yes, he was in the Hitler Youth. If we were growing up in Germany in the 1930s, we all would be as well.

And yes, some bishops have covered up clerical pedophilia. No, Joseph Ratzinger was not one of them.

  • As we now know, he did, in at least one case.

Believe me, I take no pleasure in reminding you of this. As a Catholic, I want badly to think well of the pope. My impression has always been that his chief gifts are intellectual, not pastoral. It's one of the hardest paradoxes of our religion, having to trust boundlessly in people whose abilities have easily recognizable bounds..

  • No, we do not know that he covered anything up. The media, if you haven't guessed this by now, hates him and the Catholic Church, and will do anything to suggest that he was involved in a cover-up. We simply cannot project what we now know about the disorders of pedophilia and homosexuality (yes, disorders) in 2010 with what was known ten, twenty, or fifty years ago.

  • Back in the early eighties, when Huellerman first stood accused, psychiatrists were somewhat less unanimous on the impossibility of treating pedophilia than they've become since. That much is true. But the doctor who examined Huellerman recommended his removal from ministry, We have his word on that, and no one in either the Vatican or the archiocese of Munich-Freising has contradicted it.

  • Ratzinger or whoever was acting for him ignored very sound advice. No matter how much hay the media make of that, we do ourselves no favors by denying it.

  • @spluaddict If you were a Catholic or any type of Christian growing up in Nazi Germany, your only loyalty is to God. Period. You cannot serve both God & Satan. To join the HitlerJugend or in ANY way cooperate with the Nazi regime = service to Satan.

REAL Christians refused to join or support the Nazis. Risking torture, prison & death. Some fled Germany; others worked with the underground resistance.

The Ratzinger family was well known in their town as staunch Nazi supporters.....

  • Thanks for your comment, I agree with you and thank God for giving him to us.

  • @jpitera123 May I also remind you Jesus said suffer little children to come unto me. He didn't say let the children suffer!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

This Pope is a hypocrite conservative heallows children to be born with aids (no condoms). Don't thank God for giving him to us. Ask God for Christ's sake why was he elected! Forced to join Hitler youth.. not forced to keep quite about the rape of children. Why has he given sanctuary to Cardinal Bernard Law in the Vatican? Please answer.

  • @jpitera123 When do you think God will want him back?

  • This is a beautiful slide show of the early life of our holy and prayerful Pope Benedict XVI. I thank God for him every day. I just don't see the point of some of the comments here. Being Christian and Catholic is the most wonderful thing on God's earth.

  • @Wellymary1 You are a sad deluded woman...yes brainwashed with the need for a crutch in your life.

Would you say what you say if he had covered for a priest who abused your child...would you??Please answer.

  • when will the brain washed people of the catholic church realize their church is run by a bunch of perverts that have caused untold horrors on its congreation for at least decades.what part of the churches bingo money being used to pay off little boys parents is it the catholics fail to understand???i can see why the ancients wrote this pope would be the last!!!damn the catholic church to hell quit supporting their abuse of mankind see them for the perverts they obviously are.close the pope down

  • @ez3usx2 Please see "Catholic Inquisition the Tools of Torture".

  • @bayreuth79 He is NOT a traditional catholic. Read one of his books. How about you read the one where he denounces and doubts the stone tablets and even says that he doubts very much that they were written by the finger of God. He is a heretic, an apostate . He condones ecunemical thinking and that alone makes him a heretic. He equates all other religions with catholism! He is NOT a legal pope, NO ONE should follow him. Follow Jesus and save your soul before it is too late. Denounce this demon!

  • I do not know what are you talking about and I do not think it is appropriate to post comment like this. If you post anymore slandering comment I will block you.

  • the blob is against the Pope and he´s using my comment to make himself feel better. i think if you do well making this video. so much hatred in this world. i will not add anymore to his comments. thank you, jpitera123

  • I wish you well, akoitosan, and God bless you

  • it seems our friend akoitosann thinks its ok for the pope to cover up for peadophiles do all you other catholics agree

  • Thanks for your comment. The fact that someone was born and lived in Germany when Hitler was in power does not make him/her automatically the Nazi supporter. The father of young Joseph was very much against this political regime and making this kind of accusation is a slander. Shame on those who do this.

  • thank you for making a video out of a gentle man so deeply misunderstood and always attacked. Can´t they leave him alone? he was just a young boy when Hitler was in power. Oh please.

  • yes and he covers up for pedophiles is that not his fault either

  • Comment removed

  • I am not of German extraction, but, yes, I am proud of Him as a Catholic and thanks for your comment.

  • i see so your saying its ok then to cover up for peadophiles i thought so killer catholic

  • thank you for all your comments towards me. May God bless you and make you happy.

  • well well were4realy quiet now come on admit it you approve of the cover ups ill post yopur response to another few cathoilic vits ok

  • @akoitosan Many young boys...who were REAL Christians...refused to join the HitlerJugend or serve in the Nazi military. Knowingly risking torture, prison & death. They chose to obey God & serve Him.

    Ratzinger & his very Pro-Nazi family...did not.

Many REAL Christians either hid, fled Germany, or joined the underground resistance efforts- exhibiting true bravery in the face of overt evil.

While Ratz guarded Catholic slave-laborers of ...Dachau.

  • Why should I do this????

  • You didn't include the young ratzinger with hitler's youth uniform.

  • My apologies to Zionic144NZ who posted the last comment on the video, I removed it by accident pushing the wrong button! The pictures showing Joseph in the military outfit did exist but I did not include them in the video as it is tribute video, therefore by the aim made to to cherish and praise the Pope not to induce criticism or controversies. He lived in totalitarian regime.

  • i love this man sooo much(i dont think hese hot) wen he was younger heck yes i just love himmmm sooooooooo much and i hate wen people talk bad about him hese a great papa

  • Thank you for sharing this clip. I enjoy it very much. Papa's hairstyle, smile and facial expressions haven't changed much these (81) years.

I love and respect papa a lot. He is a GENTLE man and always seems to have answers to all questions =)

  • I just simply love him.

  • Furthermore, if anyone does the slightest bit of reading (I know a horror in our modern days) Joseph Ratzinger's father was outspokenly against Hitler's Nazi regime.

  • exactly what ive been attempting to explains to many a moron on youtube, did u know Benedict refused to join the Nazi party? very brave

  • I can't believe how many people don't know their history. Yes the young Joseph Ratzinger joined the Hitler youth, but weren't so many others? Yes, because it was mandatory for young boys and there was also a female equivalent, are you saying that all German boys and girls who grew up during those times were Nazis? What an absurd and frankly ignorant accusation.

  • Really nice video. I've never seen most of this pictures before. He was a sweet little boy.

  • Great job! Just like JPII, he was absolutely adorable as a little kid. The sticky-out ears! LOL It's so cute seeing figureheads as children. Thanks also for the bio in the description--very informative :)

  • Please get your information correct before making judgments. Actually, he was first FORCED to join the MANDATORY Hitler Youth at age 14, but dropped out early to continue his study towards priesthood. In 1944, however, at 16, he was again, FORCED to join the Nazi army. He later RISKED DEATH (probably by firing squad--mind you, he was still only 16 or 17) by deserting the army in 1945. While deserting, he was captured by American forces and kept in a POW camp until the end of the war.

  • It was certainly not easy for those with anti-Nazi convictions to live in the totalitarian system under Hitler's dictatorship. Joseph's father had been devoted Catholic with strong anti-Nazi sentiments. For this reason the family was made to move a lot during his working life in Nazi Germany.

  • Yeah, that's what I heard. It's sad, really :( Like so many others, he was robbed of a normal childhood due to Nazism.

  • @DuchessAliana So the pope deserted his own country? He's not a patriot then.

  • Mate, the Pope is not a prick and is not a former Nazi.

Seriously, get it right and stop violating!

  • Great Childhood video of the Holy Father.

Who is doing the Chant in this video?

    Which song is it?

  • The Chant is remastered original recording of Benedictine monks chant made in late fifties. The album is entitled 'Salve Regina' and I suppose is still available in Amazon worldwide.

  • WooooooooW!!Fantastic!!!

  • Great Video what are lovely childhood..God Bless Our Holy Father..

  • Really amazing Video!

I live in Aschau am Inn and I know all the places that are named in the text.

We are really proud of "our" pope here in Aschau!

  • 'We are really proud of "our" pope here in Aschau!'

...and rightly so, he is great Pope, the best we could dream of. God bless.

  • yes, I agree. For the first time I read a book written by a Pope (Jesus of Nazareth and Spe Salvi) and actually understood it. You must be very proud to have him for a countryman. God bless you.
