  • Luciano, what did you do ???

Why did you destroy my opera ??

Send this girl into the nothing !

  • @222mozart fuck off i would like to see you try better

  • @MegaVenacava2

    better then this girl ??

    i can it.

  • she's no singer at all is she?

    she's awful.

  • Cute!!

  • considering this is not an opera stage, I feel Sheryl's singing is likeable. If other pop singers attempted, I probably felt different.

  • she is magnificent!!!

  • @TheEpicus666

yes, she is !!! a very large zero.

  • Why,why,why?

Pооr Pavarotti he was too nice and generous to accept this partner.

And who's idea was this anyway?

Is this American cancer society charity event or torture for the history of opera?

    .

  • She and her italian are terrible!

  • I don't even know what to say to this.

  • Sheryl's a little out of her league here, especially singing next to a seasoned professional like Pavarotti.

  • Love her...so many different colors

  • @buginyourear

    she sings horribly.

  • What in the Sam Hill was Mr. Pavarotti doing singing a duet that was meant for a baritone; he was a tenor!

  • Oh my god. She's terrible. Ma almeno pronuncia bene!! Azzo che disastro.

  • I don't know who would complain about Crow's performance. It's far better than the standard too-much-vibrato squealing by too many operatic sopranos (soprani?)

  • @timboleo Um what you're complaining about is the style they're supposed to sing in

  • @iamblue337 Supposed to sing? Maybe. But I can't imagine Mozart or Puccini wanted to listen to squawking catterwalling from his singers.

No, what you hear is what tradition tells you it's supposed to sound like, and it's god-awful.

  • orrore

  • BEAUTIFUL SONG AND SINGERS

  • Beautiful

  • She just makes Pavarotti sound even more fabulous

  • @foltano Maybe, but to me it sounds really wrong when sung by Pavarotti: Mozart wrote it for a baritone not a tenor, the male part requires a lower voice, it sounds all wrong. Check out Samuel Ramey with Dawn Upshaw for how this should be sung.

  • He could do that aria in his sleep while she's gasping for air. Thankfully it was done all in fun and for a good cause.

  • Pavarotti is amazing, as always... But what the hell is she doing there?

  • Pavarotti is a star!!! she is .. shit?

  • SHIT!

  • Well, she has guts! I don't know who is worse: Crow singing Zerlina or Pavarotti singing the Don. Totally horrible on all accounts. Poor Wolfgang.

  • @MrZeitun hahahahhahaha!

  • Respond to this video... She is sooo cute hahhahaha

  • @MrZeitun Lmao! Very funny and true!

  • Her voice... Horrible, this song would be perfect without her

  • Mazetoo? what? sorry Sheryl, keep to contemporary. you suck at this, so stay away from this precious genre.

  • sheryl sucks but pavarottis facial expressions maid up for it

  • So, she can't sing. What does she do for her millions? Is she just famous for being a loud Yank - or am I missing something?

  • Well I understand that Sheryl Crow is not trained as an opera singer, plus the performance is more like a charity concert so I don't mind a pop singer attempting arias, but please AT LEAST GET THE PRONOUNCIATION RIGHT....she sounds like she does not even give a shit on trying to get it right, which kinda piss me off.

  • en el 2:30 pavarotti dice que esta diciendo??? ...me insulta.???

Mah.....

  • Thank you Sheryl for having the guts to attempt this,

  • Why did she accept to make such an ass of herself? This is just embarrassing.

  • Ok, I think Sheryl Crow isn't great...but for untrained pretty good and it's for a good cause she wasn't aiming to be the next Maria Callas or anything.

  • Sheryl has a beautiful voice!!! And I'm an amateur fan of opera, but Sheryl really deserves credit. She can do anything, even imitate Michael Jackson as a child ;)

  • Hey Sheryl gave it a crack, I'm sure the audience wasn't expecting Tebaldi or Barbara Bonney. Takes a lot of nerve to get up there with someone like the master. Props to Luciano for keeping it very middle of the road and not eclipsing her entirely. These folks are here to mingle with the beautiful people, drink good wine and spend a small part of what they pay for clothes and travel to help children of war, not hear 1st class opera.

  • That was a "standing ovation" performance! I can't believe all of the nay-sayers here.

Frankly, I was stunned by Sheryl Crow's performance!

  • @you8888zz

well, I guess some people are very easily impressed then. And in french we have a very pertinent expression for people like her: people who "want to fart higher than their ass". She has to be quite an arrogant twat, when, with such crappy "singing", she tries to reply to pavarotti. (of course it was a standing ovation; it's Pavarotti!!!)

  • she did a great effort, at least she was not as bad as dolores o'riordan singing Ave María

  • You know what, I'm pleasantly surprised at Sheryl. I wasn't expecting her to do so well, this is so out of her comfort zone! Well done, I say.

Please, before you judge her remember that Pavarotti&Friends is not a party of highly trained classical opera singers - they are all pop-musicians and usually do not sing opera. Look for polished classical technique somewhere else and let us enjoy.

  • they sing a lot of money with anyone... Pavarotti was better than anyone

  • Pavarotti, magno!

  • She should have learn some italian first...

  • Could have been worse. Not bad for a pop singer!

  • Pavarotti should never sing this. Ever.

  • She did just fine!

  • If any of you knew anything you would not be judging. Sheryl is doing fantastic for a non classically trained singer. I studied Classical music it is not easy to sing and I also sing other styles mostly . She did Excellent especially out of her comfort zone. I Thoroughly enjoyed this performance as Sheryl is very talented and gives her all. Classical music is not easy to sing and I feel she did an awesome Job. It takes years of training. Fantastic Sheryl

  • If any of you knew anything you would not be judging. Sheryl is doing fantastic for a non classically trained singer. I studied Classical music it is not easy to sing and I also sing other styles mostly . She did Excellent especially out of her comfort zone. I Thoroughly enjoyed this performance and seeing Sheryl sing a classical piece of music . Kudo`s to you Sheryl Your awesome :)

  • I think a person's first clue to knowing Sheryl Crow isn't an actual classic singer, besides the quality of her voice (not saying she has a bad voice, but it's not as full as a well trained singer's), is how she holds herself on stage. She reaches out and holds the microphone, moves her arms about, and tilts her head from side to side.

I don't know much about classical singing, but you can see a big difference when she is put next to Pavarotti.

  • While the performance leaves much to be desired it does bring opera to a new audience. Now - those that heard this will come across a better recording or live performance and know it. Kudos for her to giving it a shot.

  • Guys, do you really think that Sheryl Crow could embarass her like this? She is a Western Singer and this was done for Charity yes @certifiedwench. It was called Pavarotti & Friends, where he featured legends like Brian Adams, and the likes. I think she was fine! Well done Sheryl!!!

  • bless Sheryl's heart for trying.....

  • I'm a classical musician and singer, i also compose classical music..... i don't think this is that bad.... she can't speak properly italian (i'm italian) and that's the only thing i think it's bad.... she is not a classical singer, and she looks a bit unconfortable.... but i liked this... and i think Mozart would have liked it too :)

  • Haha. It sounds like a countertenor is singing instead of Sheryl Crow. :) . So bad.

  • What a horrible pairing. Could she look more uncomfortable? She should NOT be singing with Pavarotti

  • Dear dear dear! This is just so SAD........it cruelly demonstrates the VAST gulf twixt 'pop' rubbish 'pseudovoices' & the fearful power/pitch/phrasing of the REAL songster, and Lucky was only firing on 2 cylinders at best! I s'pose she deserves 1/10 for having a go though, but better she'd NEVER bothered. Point taken re. the abyssmal "Sting", that ludicrously named charlatan......his effort really makes yer toes curl with sheer embarassment. Still, he's worth mi££ions so who has the laugh?!

  • The most annoying thing is not her pitiful performance but the fact that Luciano's tempo is sooooo stroppy ....

  • What were they thinking???!!!

  • Horrible...

  • no one from the pop should sing with a tenor like pavarotti... It sounds miserable

  • @SavonarolaGirolamo True, and Pavarotti shouldn't touch baritone part either.

  • I think I just thrown up! I <3 Pavarotti! Crow shut up...

  • I think I just thrown up! I <3 Pavarotti!

  • Gosh her Italian diction is terrible, it's too fast... besides the obvious lack of lyrical character in her voice...

    just for fun, yes

  • OUCH.

  • nooooooooooooooooooooooo !!!!!!!!

  • está claro, cada uno a lo suyo...

  • Pavarotti = The Voice of god.

  • agree she is fantastic ,being not prof soprano.

  • 'Got nothing against Sheryl, I've got a problem with Pav. What is he doing with a baritone part??? a lyric tenor like him? this way we shall soon hear a bass singin ardon gli incensi!!!

  • @jotahuene Why not... for fun why not.......

  • i think they do a great duet together xD!!

  • crow's voice is not for opera. just not proper. and that thick american accent. but that does not mean she' a bad singer. but should stay away from opera. but Pava... Pava was the greatest. I truly regret i did not have the opportunity to attend a live performance...

  • I really like this! Look for the beautiful, mischievous eye-roll and turn of the head from Luciano at 1:19.

  • Mrs Crow, SHOOT YOURSELF

  • Povero Pavarotti!

  • yes.. pavarotti was readin, what's the problem??

  • Amazing! Best video I have seen Yet!

  • was pavarotti reading at the end?

  • Bravo Grande Maestro ! RIP, always your voice is here, in my heart!

  • leave her alone...bless her, she's having a great time! Get over it!

  • Sheryl is a soprano and had some professional opera training when she studied.

People here should just understand the ironic approach: Pavarotti (opera singer) sings pop songs during the entire show but in this case they reversed the role with a rock singer singing opera... It's that easy. No need to start argueing if Sheryl is a good opera singer! Of course she is not at the level of a professional one but it's not the goal of this performance.

  • @Riverwide76

    She sings like a ringbell.

She has nothing to do with opera music.

If you take some lessons it doesn't mean that you can do something.

You are right when you say that the goal is something different: yeah, sure, money!..

You mix poetry with sh*t put everything on screen, and everybody claps his hands.

Well, not everybody, not me and many of those who wrote below this video.

    Peace!

  • @forversus You just don't get it... did you read what I wrote? This is not Don Giovanni at la La Scala, it's a charity rock concert and this was simply an ironic, playful duet... I don't see why everyone gets so excited... For the rest of the show Pavarotti sings pop songs and he also sounds weird and not necessarly appropriate but that is the goal of this event.

  • distasteful and offensive

  • I love opera, but this worked for me

  • love it !!!!!!

  • that's pretty impressive

  • liked her better then the female opera singers

  • i love it

  • yes it is a pain......to listen. but good to know how it is like, a possibility, although it din work.

  • When opera singers attempt pop, that's bad; this is the other side of the coin. Still, allowances must be made for the fact that this was a charity concert, not an operatic performance.

  • Am classical singer. Kudos to Sheryl Crow for giving it a shot, but it was just unfair to throw her, without proper training, onstage with someone as amazing as Pavorotti.

  • @certifiedwench I belive this was something of an exchance for charity, he would sing pop songs for charity and they pop artist would do the same with him, pavarotti and friend it was called I believe.

  • Pavarotti's face is hilarious at 1:15... he's like get me away from this shitty singer.

  • @pinkyshoes13 and the irony is his singing vieni vieni at that moment:

so he sings come with me, come with me and then that face.... priceless!

  • haha - MasettU!

  • would be funny to hear some of the complaining idiots to sing this. most of critizisers in classical music have no or little practical experiance in music and it`s instruments. so just shut the fuck up, fucken besserwisser`s. they are just the same bloody morons as the art-critics are.

  • I wonder what mozart would think of this.....

  • @snuffypoo he would take a biljartball and throw it at Pavarotti.

and the rest of the rack to Crow !!

My god they raped La ci darem!!!!

pavarotti in a baritone part ???... eehm no

    and crow...... no words

    WHY??? WHY??

  • Lol! her italian! Massetooouuuee!

  • Sheryl is trying (and failing - but who cares!) This is fun!

Pavarotti is a terrific Don Giovanni.

    Andiam :-)

  • I love this! Her voice is so special and of course he is fantastic!

  • Lighten-up America! They are having fun! Pavarotti and Friends is about fun! If you want more than fun, get tickets to La Fenice or La Scala. He had fallen in love with a young girl that hated opera. He tried to sing with pop singers and please her. Lighten-up.

  • Hilarious.

  • Wow, that was pleasant ffrom Sheryl ... she's quite the thing

  • Disgusting...

  • @ davygun I agree with you. Sheryl Crow does a fine job - all things considered. If one would take a moment to notice the finer points of this performance... Sheryl Crow is doing everything from memory - notice there is no sheet music stand anywhere close to her and nor onstage teleprompters. And judging from the smile on Pavarotti's face, she has earned his respect. Good job Sheryl. I too applaud this performance.

  • sheryl crow is a joke

  • WTF? Pavarotti sings baritone part, and that woman is something very bad. It was a mistake to sing this.

  • @AnryK2690 I agree totally. Poor Sheryl sounds so awful... mike doesn't help when Pavarotti uses one too..

  • Yes she did the best. He use to do this all teh time for charity and such it doesn tmatter we know that all the stars he sang with WERE NOT opera singers DUH for not being an opera singer SHE DID GREAT

  • She basically made up half of the notes...but she has balls for getting up and trying to sing w the PAV!

  • @davygun, I listened to Pavarotti and Sting, and sorry, but Sting sounded better than Cheryl Crow.

  • che cavolo è????

  • where is the crow's voice? but she is so pretty and fell arrive the same :)

  • I love the american accent when she sings in italian Mazzetoue! :P

  • Miss Crow didn't do a bad job of this song even if its outside her comfort zone.

and the most important part of this concert is to raise funds for children. I don't know about you people I miss the "Great Man" Mr Pavarotti one of the greats of modern singers

    Taff

  • no words. truly terrible

  • Sheryl Crow Did A Great Job!

  • What is this????:))

  • I'm going to throw up!!!!!!!!!!

  • It is not possible talking about "Katastrophe". It is really difficult for a pop artist to sing along with an opera singer as Pavarotti. I can remember a duetto between Montserrat Caballé and Freddie Mercury. Sheryl sings her part with a great dignity

  • I kind of like her. Obviously she is not an opera singer but she sings in a very charming way. When pop singers dare to get into the classical field you can have some nice surprises... Alison Moyet (Dido´s lament), Streisand (In trutina),,, By the way, he was great, as usual. thanks for posting

  • Katastrophe!

  • poor Mozart!!!

  • This truly is unlistenable. Apparently no one tells these pop divas that close-miking doesn't make one equal to great opera singers. She sounds like a tuneless 4-year-old next to him.

  • You're the one that sounds like a four year old!

  • For a song about seduction, they don't seem to be paying much attention to each other. But wow, Sheryl Crow -- I was pleasantly surprised. She hit every note.

  • I like it, Pavarotti singing a bariton-song gives one a chance to enjoy the soothing feeling in his lower range. btw, ain´t it at this concert he sings "Too much love will kill you" with Brian May?

  • No tak to zkusila. Zpevacka vyborna, nicmene v jinych mantinlech se ji bude darit lepe..

  • Oh my God!!!!! That´s so terrible! 1) her italian is terrible 2) her voice is terrible - she has no voice... 3) Pavarotti is a tenor (not baryton)!!! Terrible!!!!!

  • @barborakozakova

    aaaaaaatH. NOT WAY TO FUN

  • @barborakozakova COLON DIDN T DISCOVER THE INDIAS.

  • question:

is there an accent on the "NO" syllable in "la ci darem la maNO"?

some versions on youtube has accent while others don't. On my score there is an accent.

    thanks

  • @charmingemily

In everyday language the accent on the word "mano" (hand) goes on the first A. So you should say "màno". But in this case, singing, Pavarotti splits the word in two singing "là ci darem la maaaa-no". The accent stays on the first A anyways. :)

  • Caruso used to climb onto wagons and sing to the (then, mostly Italian) street cleaners after he had left the opera house. McCormack, Caruso (and others) also used to record and perform "popular" music; until the advent of the Jazz Age and crooners.

The concert was for a good cause (read the sidebar) and Sheryl Crow's inclusion probably brought many more dollars into the coffers of the charity! Cheers for both of them!

Pavarotti wasn't a snob...why should any of us be snobs?

  • This is wonderful duet. thank you very much for this posting.

  • whose idea was this? i could only listen to her for about 20 seconds. at least pavarotti sort of knows what he's doing, even if he's singing a baritone part.

  • omg. why is it sheryl crow. this is just a weird duet... i like them both but not her for opera :(

  • OMG I think this is the worst version of this duet I've seen

  • Purtroppo mi sembra veramente scadente.
