I have no slowdown issues at all, and my system is an Amd based phenom iix2 555 3.2 ghz dual core cpu pc with 770 msi gd45 gaming am3 mobo, 700 watt OCZ stealthstream psu, 4 gb patriot ddr3 1600 ram, ati radeon 5770 1gb gd45 from HIS, 1 tb 7200 rpm wd caviar black, silenx case fans and silenx effizio extreme cpu cooler. No slow downs, no lag..think your 4850 is rather outdated and 2 gigs of ram is way too little, the minimum any pc should have now is 4 gbs.

@samblero agreed information is sent to the ram before it is processed by the CPU so if there isnt enough ram it has to temporarily write data to the HDD (much slower causing the framerate drops) until more ram becomes free. You might want to consider upgrading the CPU because even if you can play these games on max settings sometimes performance isnt the best and im not just speaking of the framerate. not sure what kind of cpu's are available on your chipset though.

hay i have the same graphics card and CPU, but my C2Duo is overclocked up to 3,2Ghz, but i have 4gb ram DDR2 800Mhz and i dont have that FPS drops.. try putting more ram to your computer, it fixes a lot of frame drops on new games when using high quality textures. 2GB isn't enought for new games in high quality... even in games with small scenarios like Street fighter 4 does frames drops using 2Gb Ram.

u need to seprare fraps and the game into drifferent hard drives. hard drive has to work triple work. os game and fraps.

i first played fear 2 on my friends rig, i played through the elementary school level. Scared the living shit out of me. Went to hollywood vidya and picked it up for five bucks for my PS3. Beat it all in one night.(a long and scary one) I used the rest of the 5 rental days to get good exposure to the multiplayer. on my surround system, tv and just the cinematic quality of my ps3 (no fps drops, smooth look) SO FUCKING WORTH IT!

I cannot emphasise enough that fear 2 is an experience to be had.

The drops in gameplay are not from the PC version of the game. I had a Geforce 9600 GT and Athlon X2 2.8GHz and it worked fine with no lags at all.

the 4850 should have no problem running this maybe it's your hardware? If not then upgrade to another 4850 and run it on crossfire. If not you can just upgrade to the new 4890. Either way 2 4850's make just about one 4890.

my nvidia 6800 along with my OC'd p4 at 3.4 ghz can run this game completely smooth on low settings and slight lock ups on medium.
