Anyways. This game takes a little getting used to. But after a few hours when you get a handle on the controls, it quickly becomes an incredibly fun and diverse game.

I completely agree with your statement. It has actually turned me off from games in the recent years. Honestly, the only games I have found to enjoy in this current gen are Dark/ demon souls and Skyrim, FF was ok but too linear. The reason why good JRPG's can't make it into the market is cuz of the freaking demand of online shooters. Nobody buys games besides online shooters anymore. They completely ruined the market.
Thankfully the PS3 version has japanese voice overs and anime style character portraits and menus which gives it more of a Star Ocean feel. The CG style character portraits in the 360 version are terrible.

Ive played through the entire game and my main game is at the last bonus dungeon. I really like the depth that they added after the game was done as well as the extreme difficulty that came with it. The characters, mainly Edge and the little girl, are annoying at times, but Bacchus was my favorite character by far. The story wasn't a big surprise, but the bosses kept the passe going. But all in all they crammed a ton of fun content into this game and I really enjoyed it.

I heard a lot of people complain that this game pales in comparison to Star Ocean 3.
I snagged a copy of it, and the voice acting is still cheesy, the main character is even more unlikeable, the story is still barren, and the battle system is annoyingly clunky.
And guess what, I still like it, they're both good games, people just get caught up in pretending to be "above" average games, they don't sit down and like it for the cheesy, campy ball of fun it is.

The blindside being mandatory for some of the boss fights took the fun out of the battles for me and added nothing but frustration whenever id fail the blindside.
The invention system in this one sucks, as you can only make recipes in which you had to go out, find the materials and then youd finally get to make the item.

Claiming Blindsides shouldn't be in the game because the others were good without it doesn't really mean anything, SO2 and SO3 had radically different styles of combat
SO2 was very much about being aware of surroundings and map control, for example my early game strategy was basically bait an enemy with Rena, keeping Claude behind rocks or away from the enemy, then as he approached, flank around and whip the shit out of him.
SO3 felt more like balls out offense.
SO4 on the other hand is again about baiting and blindsiding, while being aware of rush, running in and throwing everything at an enemy isn't the right way to go.
My point being, Star Ocean combat is not redundant, it always changes, that's why Blindside was created, because otherwise it would just feel like SO3 combat.

This game sucks, it's not like call of duty at all. Who wants to run around with swords and cast magic spells. This game has a serious lack of grenade launchers and kill streaks. By the way IGN is the best review site in the world, most fair and balanced site ever.

if you have a PS3 buy the international Star Ocean: The Last Hope Version, it comes with anime main menu, and the original Japanese voice actors (100x better then the english voice actors, no seriously just go look up Xplay's review and they show you the horrible voice acting)
I just got this at Gamestop and for freakin ONCE....the clerk actually informed me about gameplay, visuals, story line, and the franchise itself. I am glad this is a prequel, that way i can play the others at a later date.
@GreaTMaX32 Late reply but, no its not like good/bad endings. You have multiple "character" endings which your main objective is to get them all by doing certain "private actions" etc... there are 9 characters in which you meet them as you play the game and at the end of the game, if you have fulfilled the requirement for the endings, you'll be able to see them. If you don't, than you don't get to see them. Simple as that.
I love how some people are whining about the 3 discs for 360. You fat fuckers will never be happy face it, I have it for 360 too so stfu lol... It's still a great action packed game, with loads of replay value and my favorite part is that it's actually challenging unlike many other rpg/jrpg's. Nothing's more disappointing than reaching a final boss (or any end game boss) and being like "uhh that's it? He's dead? I won?"

@muiscnight that shit lasted forever. Thank goodness for max rank health boost on Edge so I had 10k more hp than the rest of my party -thumbs up-. I managed to beat it in a time through. Very close to dying though.
@FF7Master ps3 international version is much harder though. ps3 international version is the same difficulty as the japanese version. Some of the bosses are just infuriatingly hard... unless you grind, which is not necessary on the xbox until you start playing chaos difficulty.

@kimoz For people who get advertisements in the middle of videos (if you've seen the official channels for anime tv shows that forces 2 adverts) It will stop the video from playing but for videos that get adverts in the beginning before the video starts then adblock plus should block the advert and allow the video to play.

if you have a PS3 buy the international Star Ocean: The Last Hope Version, it comes with anime main menu, and the original Japanese voice actors (100x better then the english voice actors, no seriously just go look up Xplay's review and they show you the horrible voice acting)

I just got this at Gamestop and for freakin ONCE....the clerk actually informed me about gameplay, visuals, story line, and the franchise itself. I am glad this is a prequel, that way i can play the others at a later date.

You have multiple "character" endings which your main objective is to get them all by doing certain "private actions" etc... there are 9 characters in which you meet them as you play the game and at the end of the game, if you have fulfilled the requirement for the endings, you'll be able to see them. If you don't, than you don't get to see them. Simple as that.

I love how some people are whining about the 3 discs for 360. You fat fuckers will never be happy face it, I have it for 360 too so stfu lol... It's still a great action packed game, with loads of replay value and my favorite part is that it's actually challenging unlike many other rpg/jrpg's. Nothing's more disappointing than reaching a final boss (or any end game boss) and being like "uhh that's it? He's dead? I won?"

@FF7Master ps3 international version is much harder though. ps3 international version is the same difficulty as the japanese version. Some of the bosses are just infuriatingly hard... unless you grind, which is not necessary on the xbox until you start playing chaos difficulty.

@kimoz For people who get advertisements in the middle of videos (if you've seen the official channels for anime tv shows that forces 2 adverts) It will stop the video from playing but for videos that get adverts in the beginning before the video starts then adblock plus should block the advert and allow the video to play.
