  • Borodin was an incredible composer. All of the Five wrote incredible pieces but Borodin was unique in his many different styles of brilliant music where the others in the Five could only write one type well.

  • @Celiocobra1 Someone said that "Borodin is a composer who wrote the least amount of music to be considered immortal". As for the Mighty Five, they were all great except Cui, who is more famous for his scathing and unjust critique of Rachmaninoff's 1st Symphony than for any of his music.

  • beautiful. i loved playing this piece. one of my best friends played the horn solo wonderfully. a work of true genius.

  • De toda la sinfonía, este es el movimiento que más me emociona.

  • Love this tune played it at Glasgow City Halls With GSSO

  • I played this symphony during the summer and the main theme brought a tear to my eye when it's first played by the horn at 0:20, then by the woodwind at 1:00 and by the strings at 5:02. It's so moving!

  • @92yingying I got to play a concert at Disney Hall too! No kidding, it is QUITE the hall!

  • 2:00 - that is how a cor anglais is meant to be played.

  • The theme at 1:00 by the woodwind makes me want to cry :')

  • @twankism NO U

  • My favourite movement.

  • best classical piece ever?

  • @fishsandwichpatrol I would agree with you, except this wasn't composed in that period. :)

  • Performed this with Vector Wellington Orchestra in the Town Hall last night as 1st horn. Its a hell of a movement!

  • Could you also please share Martinon's fantastic recording with the LSO of Rimsky-Korsakov's CAPRICCIO ESPAGNOLE? It's the best, ever!

  • when I have little babies I'm going to play this for them every night

  • @92yingying really? wooow ...

  • What a great movement for a horn player!

  • 3:34 :) 4:05 4 :17 4:25 to the end plays horn

  • I love how russian composers utilize repeated 8th notes for dramatic affect. It's really (dare I say) a bit of a precursor to the heavy metal riff.

  • 5:04 is my favorite part!

  • @holaabonjour Mine too.

  • I played this at NMC in 1965, and it's always been a big favorite of mine. Other than the quick beginning of the first movement, it's really good!! I'm crying my eyes out!!!!!

  • Certainly, this must be what heaven is like.

  • he is ROCKIN' the mustache.

Awesome piece. I'ma be playing it and some other stuff Nov. 8 in an orchestra on 90.1 radio station. From the Top. Tune in. :)

  • I assume you're in Emory Youth Symphony. What do you play?

  • Yup :D Violin! 2nd chair 1st's. I'm assuming u play violin too :D

  • Actually, viola this season. I auditioned on both but wanted to try something new. Congrats on getting such a great chair.

  • Of all the Borodin Symp #2 postings on youtube, this is clearly the superior performance and recording. thank you for this.

  • I've played this last year, and I especially love this movement ! I'm so glad to have found it on here, thanks for uploading :)

  • I'm playing this solo in my easter orchestra course this week - what a beautiful movement...

  • 1:26 out of tune much?

  • Wow, you have great ears; are you a conductor? The whole performance is quite beautiful, however. The London Symphony in those days was the equal of any orchestra in the world.

  • well i sat in front of a clarinet while rehearsing this piece (in my orchestra) for almost 3 months =D

  • @FungoBoy same! We did the concert yesterday ^^

  • Gervase de Peyer's clarinet solo here has never been equaled; what a beautiful movement this is! The soul of Russia on display!

  • What a tune!

  • Indeed. This is my favorite movement.
