  • Nice.....sad.......

  • i friggin love this song....

  • Great song and cool instrument! Do you play ukulele?

  • @keonepax

    Thanks John.

Yes I play the Uke. I have a tenor Uke (Ovation) and I used it on one of my songs "Caution Has Stood Down". I will use it more often too because it's a great instrument as you demonstrate so well with your songs. Have a great evening. -Ron

  • Re-listening to this magnificent song. - Duncan.

  • This song is incredible, so simple, so true. I love it. Thank you for sharing. :)

    Tear.

  • Good evening LambBambi and thank you very much. It is a bit sad isnt it :o) -Ron

  • Nice songwriting

  • Really touching song. :)

Makes me want to cover it... hmmm... winter break project?? haha

  • Very moving. It actually made me reflect and feel a bit sad too. Nice to know the first thing you posted with the new mandolin was this deceptively simple song which has an augmented here and there in it as well as some nice overdubbed picking.

  • This was the first of Ron's that I ever listened to.

  • I still love this great song.

  • Gosh... another beauty. Love this one ... you're now stuck into my personalized fave list aside from YT. I know that can't mean too much to you, but in the several months I've been hanging on in this 'club' ... let's just say there are very very few in there.

  • Hi Carol, and that is such a nice thing to say, and of course it means a lot to me... I am very honored by it. Your vids are constantly in my favorites as well by the way :o). Thanks more that I can say. -Ron

  • A great song!

  • Hi Ron :) Saw this one Duncan's page and came back for another visit. He's right below - it is a 'masterpiece'. It is amazing how some things can just seem to 'poof' into thin air...lol. I guess life is about learning, loving and moving forwards through all the magical experiences life has to offer, and not looking back too much...I love that last verse about the 'big wide grin'....so positive.

Best wishes for the week ahead.

    Sunbeam :)

  • wow this song it's home to me.I enjoyed it but it brought back some thoughts i haven't thought about in awhile.Like it never happened.Your a good song writer.

  • Hi Ron, I miss the lyrics to this song...

    Anette

  • Hi Anette, and I just put them up... get your handerchief out :o) -Ron

  • Uih... I understood most of all, but reading this now... so sad, but beautiful. I love the melody and the chord changes. It is a great song, Ron.

    Aentte

  • Coming back for another listen, a masterpiece here.

  • Duncanio, thanks and how are things? Talk to you later, -Rono Del (you know the rest :o)

  • Hi Duncan, nice to meet you here :-) I also wanted to listen again to that beautiful song. Yes, it is a masterpiece.

    Anette

  • Lovely tune :) FAV & *****

  • freeoriginalsongs, Thank you for the nice comment. -Ron

  • I got this turned up loud.

    Sounds sooo great.

    Like morning.

I wanna cover this one on my other channel.

  • Hey Os. It would be a great honor to have you to do it, and that's an understatment to say the least :o) -Ron

  • Awesome. The airy plucking over the second verse is a wonderful touch. Nice bridge as well.

  • Thank you Oswlek. -Ron

  • This song is sooo great. I never get tired of it.

  • Another listen...better each time!

  • ...your original songs can easily keep up with your cover versions!

  • Thank you Jens, that is a great comment. Makes my day :o) -Ron

  • this song has really beautiful lyrics. nice work.

  • Thank you much JenJenEM :o) -Ron

  • Great song, Ron. Beautiful, actually. This is one of your finest, in my opinion. Your mandolin sounds wonderful.

  • Hey there Maureen. I'm on a folk instrument kick at the moment :o) I can't really play them the way they were meant to be played, but I can play chords and make a sound with them. Thanks for the thoughtful comments on this one too. -Ron

  • Very pretty song! Great job!

  • Thank you blugrsschick. -Ron

  • What an EXCELLENT song. The mandolin sounds wonderful, too. ;)

  • Thank you very much Molly (I beleive?) -ron

  • really nice sad song.

  • Beautiful song!5*****

  • Thank you very much dragonveins. -Ron

  • sounds very good*****

    kind regards, Harry

  • Thank you Harry. -Ron

  • Yeah, i really like this...are there overdubs on this? Sounds a bit like it.

    Gorgeous melody.

  • Thanks Os. Yes I overdubed the tenor banjo on. I also added a second mandolin because the first one was a bit too low in the original recording. Talk to you later, -Ron

  • Sorry I missed this when you posted it, Ron. I was offline for a while. I like your new instruments and your new song! (And I'm sure your neighbours do, too!) 5*****

  • Hi there Teruko. It's great to hear from you any time I hear from you :o) I've got an Octave mandolin as well (called Mandolas in Europe), so my neighbors don't know what to think now, haha. :o) Thanks, -Ron

  • Wow Ron, Vocal, Composition, Mandolin, Banjo, Piano and Guitar !!!

Lots of talent going on here.

Ya know, I could heard the drums, bass and harmonies as you did this one.

    Really nice !!!

    -Basement Bob

  • Hey Bob, thanks, but I am indeed a "Master of None", haha. I'm passable on the guitar if you don't look too close, but couldn't hold my own on any of the others. I do like them though. Talk to you later, -Ron

  • Thank you Greg. I like the folk instrumments a bit more now, but I'll be on something else before long :o) Talk to you later, -Ron

  • i'm gobswobbled.some absolutely beautiful lennon-esque chord changes/melodies.wonderous.you and that mando seem te have hit it off far too quick aswell :)

  • I really love this song you wrote.. The musical progressions and the bango notes added in there sounds awesome. Great vocals as usual and yes, the song theme is definately from this world. Thoroughly a great work Ron and I'm jealous of your new aquisition :)

    Phil

  • Hey there Phil, yea I'm on a folk instrument kick at the moment. I've also got an "octave" mandolin coming in soon. Its really just a big ass mandolin though, tuned one octave below the mandolin. Stop for stopping in Phil, -Ron

  • that is astounding.

  • Thats very kind of you dragonsmusic. I appreciate it. -Ron

  • welcome, sir. is that an 8 string mandolin?

  • Yes, 8 strings but tuned in pairs. -Ron

  • excellent tune

  • Thank you 1975jstin. -Ron

  • I love this one. Really great topic too.

Isolation seems a great theme in today's world..wonder why?

Love the gorgeous melody here too.

    Faved.

  • Hey Os, and that is a great question, considering the instant communication we have all over the world today, and we still feel Isolated. What's up wid dat? Thanks for stopping Os. I really enjoying Definitions by the way :o) -Ron

  • sweet song mate just gets better every time this is pure genius love that mandolin

  • Thank you Chris, I'm on a folk instrument kick at the moment. It'll pass :o) -Ron

  • hey Ron :)

    sup ?

this is a great song man

i always wondered is playing chords on the mandoline is the same as in a guitar

how many strings are there in a mandoline anyway ?

    take care man

    love

    willy

  • Hey Willy, Thanks. the mandolin has a different tuning than a guitar so the chords are different. There are 8 strings but are tuned in pairs. Mandolins are great. -Ron

  • Yeah!! Love it Ron! Mandolin is purrty =)

  • Thank you Lori. The Mandy is a student model actually, but it is purrty I agree :o) -Ron

  • Hey Ron,glad i dropped in,loved the song.might just go out and buy myself a banjo.Cheers,Ed

  • Yes, get you one Ed, especially those scenic vids of yours :o) Thanks, -Ron

  • I enjoyed the story the song told, and the way the banjo and mandolin fit together was excellent, great job!

  • you remind me of Roy orbison...keep it up.

  • Thank you. I get the Roy Orbison comparison a good bit but I swear I don't see it :o) I wish I could sing like him though :o) Thanks, -Ron

  • Hi Ron:):) I liked this song. Specially lyrics. Bravo:)

  • Thank you very much Dennise :o). Very sweet of you to stop by. -Ron

  • wow great. i actually learned a few chords on the mandolin and surprisingly they are similar. great job on this. love it!!

  • Hey Austin, thank you. I lowered the tuning down a bit to make it easier to play, but the chords are the same just in a lower key. Thanks, -Ron

  • Just a great song that I can relate to Ron! Love the mandolin here. Hey and you can play it very well : ) Keep the awesome songs coming my friend : )

    Rocket

  • Hey there Rocket Rob from Ottawa, thanks for stopping in and the great comment. It's getting on towards fall up there and I bet it's gonna be pretty. Do some vids of it for us, ok? :o) -Ron

  • Thanks Ron for sharing, beautiful song.

    5*****

    Best wishes my friend,

    -Anindya.

  • Hey there Anindya :o) Always great to hear from you. Thanks very much. -Ron

  • cool tune Ron. loving the sound of the mandolin, makes me want to bust my own out, cept i suck. anyhoo, great song my friend. keep on rocking in the free world, kenton

  • Hey Kenton, good to hear from you. Get out that mandolin boy, everybody sucks at first, even Sam Bush... Well, maybe not Sam Bush, but you know what I mean :o) -Ron

  • So much sadness in this song Ron. We have to be tough in this life to be able to move on, but this song sort of conveys courage- and the determination of the human spirit. Very well written and played - its one of your best !

  • Hi Rebecca. Thank you gurl. This is a sad little thing isn't it... but I agree with you, the protagonist is a fiesty fellow in the end :o) -Ron

  • diggin that progression man!!! great song :)

  • Thanks Jimbo, and I'm really enjoying those late night jams or yours... I'm a bit of a night owl myself :o). -Ron

  • Hi there Ruth. Thanks for the kind comments, and I must say your "The Polar Bear In The Room" has been a high point on the Tube for me the past few days. Really fine writing. -Ron

  • Hey Michael, and thanks you very much. The mandolin is a Rogue, pretty cheap but it sounds good for as long as it stays in tune :o) -Ron

  • wow!

    five stars!

    *****

    // your fan from sweden.

  • Hey friend from Sweden :o) Thank you very much. -Ron

  • Excellent job. You do have one of those voices that I don't get tired of hearing. Love your stuff.. Keep them coming..

    Pººhßear

  • I still get to call ya Wendy the PoohBear don't I? :o) -Ron

  • I think I will always be known as Wendy PoohBear. I like that! :)

  • This is another beautiful rhopen original. The mandolin adds a sweet contrast to the sense of melancholy in the lyrics. The melody is beautiful, you have a way of writing songs that sound like classics on a first listen. Good to talk to you earlier compadre;

    Duncani

  • Ditto Duncani, always enjoy our chats. I'm always glad to get your comments on my little songs. I'm in a folk instrument phase at the moment. Don't worry, I'll Open My Eyes and it will pass :o) -Ron

  • Mmmmm . . I think you've found the natural instruments for you. This banjo/mandolin combo really suits your voice, and the result sounds just great :) The first few bars remind me of J.L.'s "Isolation" . . which is no bad thing!

  • Hey Stu, I am indeed in a folk instrument phase at the moment. I'm woefully inadequate on them though, so I just use guitar-like strumming and finger-picking on them, which is ok for my little songs I think. Thanks, -Ron

  • Definitely a song many people can relate to, beautiful!

  • Thank you Beth. That's very kind of you. -Ron

  • Love this Ron- Beatlesque... Nice Instrument too!

  • Yep, "just like it never happened", its tough on the streets man- love the mandolin-great song too....

  • Hey Richard and thanks for stopping by. Has your Alvarez come in yet? Want to hear it soon :o) -Ron

  • Alvarez arrived-mic came today- geez- now I gotta come up with somrthing...eek....stay tuned.....

  • Excellent Ron! What a great song my friend! :)

  • Well, It ain't Del Reeves, but it'll do for my purposes :o) Thanks Ed. -Ron

  • Man this is very excellent! Love the singing and playing, but even more the words wich strum's a sensible string in me...Like it never happen.. Yea like it never happen. Merci my friend!*****

  • Hey Bo, yea I'm gettin' kinda folky now :o) it'll pass... Like it never happened :o) -Ron

  • wow, this is so good.....u have a lovely voice and it seems timeless. do u prefer to write or perform more? or are they equal?

    fantastic.....

    michael

  • Hey Michael, Thanks. When the Muse is with you nothing compares to writing for me. The problem of course is the Muse is not always with you :o) She a fickle lady to say the least. Talk to you later Michael. -Ron

  • Great sound and a really great song Ron....loved it!!

    Sarah x

  • Hey thank you very much Sarah. I'll be visiting Bluefroger in bit for some more listens :o) -Ron

  • havoc indeed!

    Nice work Ron!

    Thank you!

  • Thank you Sue. Fall's fast approaching. I'll bet its pretty up there where you guys are :o) -Ron

  • Hi Ron :) Yes - isn't it odd how something that can one day be your everything can fade and become as if it were never there. And whenever that has happened to me, I think - how amazing is that!!...lol...Great basis for a song - enjoyed this!! 5 stars!

    Sunbeam :)

  • Hi Sunbeam, and yes I agree, all you can say is wow, what just happened there :o) I hope you are doing well Sunny gurl. I always like to hear from you ;o). -Ron

  • Hey Ron.. This was fab! Very well thought-out song indeed.

We know where to go if we do anything that needs a mandolin/banjo line adding now lol

    -Sonya

  • Hey thanks Sonya, and yes indeed I would be pleased to add some chaos to your recordings anytime, ahaha :o) I'm pretty lame on these things at the moment, but doing overdubs I can bit on my lip and get something out given enough takes :o)

I wanna hear Wuthering Heights now dog-gone-it... If Kate can do it I know you guys can :o) -Ron

  • This is great man! Love that Mandolin, I started teaching myself how to play once, but I broke it! :(

  • Thanks Justin. I do like the Mandolin, but they are hard on your fingers, goodness gracious. However, I found out that you can lower the tuning a couple of steps and it makes it much easier to play. Go get you another one now :o) -Ron

  • Very good Ron! I think this is my favorite of yours. And I've got to say it again, your songs have such great titles.

  • Thanks Joesf. I notice you have a great knack for titles to. Do you find that a title alone can often trigger an entire song? Happens to me often. I get a title that sounds good and I write an entire song around it. Whatever works, eh? :o) -Ron

  • Yeah...I have found that. Often though...I'll finish a song and it won't have a title...so I just try to find the most off the wall phrase or word. haha.

  • Duuude, I'm loving that mandolin and banjo :) I've never thought much of them but you definitely put a good name to those instruments, hehe :)

  • Hey Stew, yea these folk instruments are great for adding color to your songs. The trick is knowing when to use them, because sometimes they fit a song and sometimes they don't. The guitar always fits though :o) -Ron

  • Great playing Ron! loved the bridge:) great lyrics too! faved:)5*****

  • Thank you Jane. Was the weather very bad up your way? It rained heavy on the SC coast but missed us inland. -Ron

  • It was really really really windy...LOL..sound side flooding:) I still went to work though:)made it through:)

  • Hi Ron. That was a great song. Carol x

  • Thank you very much Carol :o) -Ron

  • hey Ron, they both sound great and I can't wait to see that banjo. a tenor has a long neck like Pete Seeger ?

  • Hey Danny, thanks. A tenor banjo is really just a banjo with four strings on it instead of five. They are used in jazz a lot, but seldom in country and folk music. I think Pete's long-necked banjo was a regular five string. Talk to you later Dan, -Ron

  • Most enjoyable Ron,

You gave such a vast talent but it's your voice that captivates me - well done :)

  • Hey Jack, and that is a fine comment coming from you, who I consider one of the best vocalist on YouTube. -Ron

  • RONNIE!!! Aren`t those Mandolins friggin awesome bro! :0)

    Great song man!

  • Thank you Gerry. I finally got me one and I can't put it down now :o) Thanks, -Ron
