I feel so happy to see Luke in this clip. Luke is one of the most humble guitar player out there, if not the humbliest! To see Luke sit there and smile when hes playing with one of his heroes makes me smile ten times harder! I have to say that Glenn is one of the coolest cats around and as well a really humble guy! So sad to hear about his illness. This video brights my day up!
@MrArtist This is a great video of the meeting of two of the greatest guitarist around. But don't be dissing Mr.Paisley who is also a great player! Don't be a hater it's not cool and is just a waste of time and energy.
It's no secret Luke is my favorite guitar player but I've known about Glen fo a longtime! I love 60's Surf music and Glen did ALOT of session work! Want to hear more? Check out his 64' album "The Astounding 12 String Guitar of Glen Campbell" By the way, Bob Dylan plays harmonica on a tune! As for hearing Luke? .... Turn your frickin; radio on! Seriously though, just about everything he's touched is Gold!
It's such a cool thing that Steve honored our mentor and hero Glen considering his health challenges he's facing. Don't know when this was done but music is the great healer and universal language that supersedes all negative forces. A historic video.
Luke is genuine fan of music which makes him genuine player in a first place, I don't know if most of the people realize how good of a musician he is.
you can't beat the heart that Luke has...he's salt of the earth...great guy and an incredible musician...as well as glen...good to see these two together...
Not too familiar with Mr. Lukather, but Glen is one of the most underrated singers and guitarists of all time. One of my musical heroes and I'm only 34.
holy crap ...gotta say ...i never really knew either of them could play like that ...well Campbell is no surprise but i never knew Luke was into flacpickin
wow. Thanks for this. What a treat to come across this. Two great guys and musicians. Inspirational heart warming stuff. Made my day this one. Thanks for the post.
There are some people that I wish would just never get old. Glen is one of them. If he lived for a 1000 years he would still play everyday and he would love to do it. He is approaching 50 years on the road and is heading out on another tour. I guess he will play until he is gone.
@SpasticConiption Glen is a stone badass. He was tearing up fretboards when Luke (a world-class badass in his own right) was in diapers. I remember watching reruns of his Smothers Brothers spin-off summer show and gasping in astonishment at Glen's chops.
I don't have it but it was on the midnight special, around '76. Glenn more than held his own. He was playing one of those Ovation electric solid bodies.
Phil wanted to buy my Telecaster & also told me an amazing saga of an injured Goanna that he nursed back to good health.such a kind act & concerned about other things besides himself, ya know
"pngaia" Tony Enamel is not in the same class as these guys+he's actually a drummer, his brother Phil is the better guitarist too,Tommy is like eating Mc Donalds yuch! Steve & Glenn are like fine dining, yummo
@racecar06 - Dude, Tommy IS in the same league as these guys - if not in a higher league! He plays drums too, he started out as one, but he is an amazing guitar player too - those years of drumming no doubt made him the amazing rhythm player he is today! And no, BOTH Emmanuel brothers are fucking amazing! Phil's specialty is more the electric, and Tommy's is the acoustic, but dont be fooled - they both kick ass at BOTH types! And as for your McDonalds comment? %@$#*^&*%& - more polite this way!
I was in a studio in Phoenix, AZ with some friends messing around and we heard this guy playing guitar down the hall. We walked around the corner and there he was, Glen Campbell ripping it up. I knew the man could play, but OMG can he ever play. We sat there and talked with him and got him to play an electric with some distortion on it. I swear to god the strings would have caught fire if he played any longer. We all left that room humbled and in awe.
Awesome story - thanks for sharing it. I jam often with my metalhead friend and he has no knowledge of any guitar players that came before Randy Rhodes. I tell him about Glen Campbell and Jerry Reed all the time.
He does not understand that playing metal scales at light speed is a very limited approach. He is a good player but basic blues scales are foreign to him. Sad. He has the ear to be great but he will never get there without the blues.
fucking excellent two completely different styles but yet two guys who started off in the studio playing guitars for sombody else.........very natural to see luke ask glen if he wanted to use his pick...i love this kind of stuff and see luke in aw of glen .........fucking....great stuff
Some BADDDD jazz cats also contributed to the studio scene. Howard Roberts and Barney Kessel to mention a couple. They were untouchable in their abilities. Glen is great too--vastly unappreciated for his guitar skills and a self taught "ear" player.
he started off as a "session" guitarist. Not a "nashville session" guitarist. He worked more in LA in those years than he ever did in Nashville. Nashville would like to take credit for him even being born but of course Nashville is famous for exaggerating just about everything.
Could you explain how a city can take credit for "exaggerating just about everything." just about everything, along with some examples please, that statement just doesn't make sense.
And seriously, my comment was like 3 months ago, its not even on the front anymore, do you really search through old comments looking for someone to prove wrong? Just to make yourself feel special? That's kinda sad, man.. lol
All of you 'Nashville Lovers' need to remember that Fred Rose gave the foundation to whatever Nashville has become in the last 50 years. Fred Rose was from Chicago.
Hey, he did. Check out The Astounding 12-string guitar of Glen Campbell (1963) and Big Bad Rock Guitar of Glen Campbell (1964. Both did not chart and probably near impossible to get hold of now. Glen could have been a 60's guitar god along side Clapton, Green and Hendrix. Pity he gave it up to become every housewife's dreamboat. An astounding posting. Thnx.
UUh, I don`t know. I think I can recall that T. Tedesco said this what I wrote. Tedesco said that there always was very limited time in recording because of studio cost. I thought it was his signing with Capitol, who knew him well as a demo singer via studio playing that created the opportunity to play.
OMFG!!! Glen Campbell, Roy Clark, Brad Paisley are all MONSTER guitar players although they don't play a musical genre that allows for them to really rip it up.
