i guess i'd say both, he DOESN'T play the part well, and DOESN'T look like it as well. the drama actually has a REALLY awkward feel to it. it just doesn't work out well. as a really really big fan of ouran, i'm quite disappointed that the live action turned out to be like this. and to add it up, i mean a lot of people are really looking forward to this drama, and what the hell, you'd use and AMMATURE to play the leading role of haruhi..tsk tsk! :/

Most live actions do not live up to their original manga counterparts. But this one actually had a good cast who managed to exceed people's expectations with their acting. This is the best live action for me so far; way better than HanaKimi.

Yusuke Yamamoto is perfect as Tamaki!! hair color? seriously!? who cares if it's one shade off . his acting is so good & that is way more important than hair color. He is not the most good looking but for me I find him more and more attractive as I watch him act. Also Haruhi they got her spot on for sure. I think im more in love with her in the drama than in the anime&manga.

the actors playing the characters in this live action were chosen ,more or less, by the mangaka, most esp. yamamoto yusuke(tamaki's) so i think your complaints were futile...who knows more about who can portray this and that than the manga artist/writer herself....

@katana309 Totally 100% true. And for the record, Yusuke Yamamoto IS wearing colored contacts to make his eyes lighter for the role of Tamaki. And then when I hear people obsessing over the fact that Tamaki and Honey don't have blue eyes and blonde hair. . .HELLO!! They're Japanese remember?! How many Japanese people do you know are walking around with natural blonde hair and blue/purple eyes? For the group of people (who are definitely in the minority) who don't like the live-action version, no one's exactly begging them to watch it; just keep watching the anime but don't ruin it for everyone

@liveyroxs huh. i think the casting is actually very, very good. though of course they cant all be as flawless and beautiful as they are in the anime (who is?) the acting for the characters is really well done. the guy who played Tamaki is pretty funny as Tamaki, he really got his character down. i think the twins were closest to perfect out of the whole cast, though. They totally nailed the Hitachiin brothers character! The only ones I think could have been recasted are maybe Hani or Kyoya.

I know they are great actors, but if someone is a really die-hard fan of the manga/anime, people set standards. I'm watching it, and I can say that they are good, but it still irks me to watch it. It's a host club and if I'm given the chance to go there, I rather not. Hitachiin twins are my favorite, and despite them having copied the twins in terms of attitude and such perfectly, I can't look at them at all. In a host club, looks matter. They are great, but not everyone likes them. Just saying.

Usually animes/mangas that get turned into live actions are meant to be more REALISTIC. They portray the character, not their looks, because they are ACTORS, NOT COSPLAYERS.

I didn't like Tamaki's actor at first, but after a while I realize he's doing a REALLY good job at playing Tamaki. Just like the others.

I really like this Kyouya, and I loved the anime! I think that each actor was perfect in his/her role. I enjoyed this show very much. It had all of the goofiness and crazy characters just like the anime. I really liked it :)

They found a set of talented twin actors who not only look incredibly similar but who show enough dedication to the synchronization required by the roles that they actually synchronized how wide to open their eyes, the exact angle and height to hold their fingers when they point, and not to mention speaking lines in unison with zero prompting. The live action cast is fantastic, sweet, and dedicated.

I didn't like the drama. And then I actually watched it, and I was literally laughing so hard I was crying. I watched all of the episodes that were out in one sitting. It's actually really, really good - all of the characters are spot on! Of course they can't make them "look" like the characters, it would honestly kind of look ridiculous if they did. If I was to be honest, I actually like the drama a little bit more than the anime (not the manga, that will always be the best~)

I have no idea what everyone is pissing and moaning about. . .I've been watching the live-action version since it came out in July, and I LOVE it!

People who don't like it are probably focusing too much on the physical looks of the actors instead of focusing on the quality of their acting skills. Yusuke Yamamoto may not look like the Tamaki everyone had in mind, but when it comes to PLAYING the character, he's the best. The show itself is funny, and I have no complaints about it.

My one and only complaint about this show is the time slot (it only gets about 23 mintues airtime. . .WAAAY too short >_<)
