I love Michelle, but black women have been making strides for years now BEFORE the Obamas. Also, why are they comparing her to entertainers? She's not a singer or an actress. Why not compare her to Dr. Rice or Cynthia McKinney or Sheila J Lee? Yes, the light girls normally go into the fun stuff and darker women go into serious positions. Don't compare black heads of state to entertainers.
I sure hope she can make some sort of difference in the way BW are viewed, but I have got to say that all this is just wishful thinking... Sure, she can make some difference, but she can't change everything by herself! We, as mothers and fathers, need to stop our children from buying into the stereotypes about BW that pop culture feeds us, and show them that there are BW out there who aren't loud, fat, or stupid! Mrs. Obama is a great example of that.
I hate to say this but I did need Michelle to figure out I needed to work out or make a difference. The struggle of being of African desent was all I ever needed and when she is gone we will have another white first lady
I am glad that I didn't need Michelle Obama in the Whitehouse for me to know that black is beautiful and that Beyonce is not the epitome of Black Beauty.. I grew up with Aunts and a mother and uncles, cousins and father/grandfathers of various shades.
Too bad ent shit going to change, you still going to have bw complaining about black men and acting like Mrs. Obama got to the white house by her fuking self. Who cares, the same way they can show the difference about black women why don't that show the same thing for black men? hypocrities.
There are videos and blogs on Black men in the age of Obama.. you should look for them.. but they wouldn't be posted in THIS video.. it isn't about BM.
