@MrMickroach u only joined the military cos u failed ur a levels, u admited that under one of your old accounts. ur very proud of yourself for no good reason at all, all full of hot air and nonsense.
The 80s recession was something you had to have lived through, in fact, the 80s entire were a pretty bleak time for most people. Schools and hospitals bulldozed, our industries broken up, two mile dole queues. The Tories thought hiding the problem would look better and be cheaper than dealing with it, so they closed the labour exchanges and built spakly Job Centres like MacDonalds, creating an illusion of job availability. Most of the cards inside were for low paid jobs 300 miles away. Bad days.
@bolloxinator You are a bitter and silly socialist fool are you not. Now which recession are you on about? There was only one recession in the 80s and that was sgenerated by the labour louts of the late 70s, certainly not the Conservatives. It was a splendid time when the Unions were beaten and the miners went into a spin...in fact it was a joyous time for those of us who worked hard! Sorry, you are obviously in a fantasy all of your own.
@MrMickroach Yes, you're abosultely right. I'm a bitter socialist fool, whose family business had to close after your beloved mad cow shut down the local industries and the town died.
Thanks for voting for her. We all love you very much.
Now go fuck yourself, you gormless, greedy wanker.
By the way, work hard? Doing hwta exactly? Buying shares? A hard day's work would kill you, and any of your Toff chums you elect. None of them have done a day's work in their lives. Thatcher was lucky enough to find a drunken millionaire to bear halfwit kids for. Hard work my fucking ass.
@bolloxinator Hard work old son, extremely hard work! Born and dragged up on a council estate in Newcastle, did alright, privately educated all of my 5 children and looking forward to a pleasant retirement! And those I grew up with are still in council houses in newcastle whinging just like you!
In that case, you're an even bigger fool. I lived among those people. The miners were proud people, with a strong moral and work ethic. We ran the local shop. I saw them every day, I knew them all. They were damn fine people, fighting to keep their jobs, and their community. It was her monetarist experiment that went wrong and created a slump from a recession while she attacked us. It's just that it didn't hit you. Maybe this time, Cam-moron will ruin you too.
@bolloxinator Your family business closed because the unions killed your local industries, it is they you should be angry with, not the most popular Prime Minister ever! And I would vote for her again 1000 times over. Proudest moment was my second son being presented to Her when he got back from his second operation Telic at a dinner in the Dorchester!
@MrMickroach You're embarrassing yourself. I'd walk away, while you still have your underpants on, buy your daily mail and squeak 'communist!' like a demented mouse at everything that's changed working people's lives for the better in spite of the party you support.
You might like Chile. Thatcher's mate, the fascist butcher Pinochet, created a country you'd love over there. Well, she did.
@freddo27 Seems like anyone who works hard and earns a good living is not a working man in your eyes. The only embarrassment are anachronistic fools like you! We have got rid of the labour louts and now dave Snooty is I/C, a period of re adjustment will follow.. Hooray for the toffs, we are in control again! And when duirng 982, most of the world backed Argentina, Chile stood firm beside us, best you remember that because we have a lot of military men whose lives were saved by Chile`s action.
@MrMickroach Oh, that's all right then. because Chile backed us in time for Maggie to send dozens of young lads to their death for her to win al election, all the 'missing' from the rule of Pinochet's junta can now rest in peace. Thanks for setting us all straight on that.
@bolloxinator What a puerile cretin you are. Your spiteful rant does not include sovereign terroritory being invaded by a hostile and wicked regime, nor the wishes of the British people to send the invaders home again. Tell me oh spiteful one, what have you done for your country in your life?
@MrMickroach I lost a cousin and a mate on the Galahad. She was warned months ibn advance of the Argentine junta's intent, yet she withdrew the Antactic patrol ship which was there basically to show Argentina that we intended to keep the Islands.
Again HER mistakes, HER error of judgement. All you can credit it her with is imagined 'good' things which are dissected with ease. And supporting a tin-hat junta in Chile while defending the Falklands from another is blatant hypocrisy.
@bolloxinator I am sorry you lost a chum and family but, tell us, were you there, or have you ever worn a uniform? All intelligence at that time old son, pointed to the fact that Argentina would not invade....amaxing how we kicked their arses..And let me tell you, every one of us who was a part of Operation Corporate would have followed the Maggie anywhere! From 1983, no one fucked with the Brits any more.
@MrMickroach It was always expected that I would take over our family business, which I was employed in, so no, I haven't joined the forces. I know a hell of a lot of lads who did though, and don't run away with the idea they're all Thatcher lovers. Far from it. A few might've liked the pay rise she immediately dealt out while everything else was cut, and been attracted into the Army or Navy in the first place by them, which was no doubt the intention. But they kept their heads screwed on.
@bolloxinator Ah, so you havent really done anything for the country, but have tried to carry on as a capitalist! Very noble. And then, as now, 95% of service people are conservative in their views, that is why they are prepared to put on a uniform, swear that Oath of Allegiance and stand in harms way when asked...even when we have a perfidous and odious government that send them to illegal wars in the middle east, they still go.
@MrMickroach Ah well, in '80, you see, the mad cow had closed the pits and shut down the factories. So they joined up cos there was bugger-all else round here. That's in the real world, like. Not the officer's mess.
As for carrying on like a capitlaist, nah. We got by, and we enjoyed running our little shop. The kind of shop that went in the Thatcher era, the one in every street. Ousted by her friends, the corporations. So much for fair competition.
Baroness my ass. Get yer nose out. She's a silly old cow. She's nowt, never was. A puppet with big business's hand up her fat backside making her dance, and piss down upon the people who create the wealth they wanted more freedom to milk society of. The got their wish but: it was the ordinary folk who got her out. The poll tax was a step too far, and an embarrassed Tory central office knew she'd finally gone mad.
Every change for the good of everyone, there've been the Tories, opposing it. The health service: Tories opposed it. Council Housing: opposed it. Social security: opposed it. The bastards would have us back in the days when 11 year old kids were going up chimneys while they piled up the loot for doing bugger all. Same as they ever were. The rich and the stupid.
@bolloxinator The Baroness`s father was a little shop keeper.....seems you have a well balanced view with a chip on both shoulders! The Pool tax was a good idea and believe it or not, that is what New Labour did, we have it now, just under a different name! Your pathetic bigotry is quite amusing! I honestly thought people like you were an anachronism!
@MrMickroach No, the Tories abandoned the hated Poll Tax since the sight of angry working class people on the streeet scared them shitless. They changed it to the Council Tax. One way or another, they had to pay for the service sell-offs, where once there were self-financing services, there were shareholders with greedy hands outstretched. The old affordable rates didn't cover it, so she had to come up with something to pull in the cash. Council tax is a TORY concoction. As you well know.
@bolloxinator Well that is just how insular you "people" are. The Baroness did not shut the pits or the factories, the Unions did! The fact that you suggest people would join the military because they couldnt get a job is risible, because even the lowliest Squaddie would have been rejected if that was the motivation! That why the British military has been the best and most professional in the world since the end of conscription!
..and if you don't know how good recessions are at pulling young people into the military, you really aren't taking note of facts at all. As much as I'm sure you'd love to believe they're all cap-touching, obedient young men who stand up for the national anthem, you'll find most who joined in the terrible years of Thatcherism did so because there was bugger all else. The mindset, such as it existed, was instilled afterwards.
@bolloxinator You have first hand experience f the military do you? Go on tell us, what experience do you have, what do you know about what motivates someone to swear an aoth and be prepared to stand in harms way... Go on tell us that its because they cant get a job they are prepared to rsik being killed or worse, badky mutilated.. You disgusitng creature. So when you can prove your military credentials, you are qualified to speak about it. You spineless fool
@bolloxinator The pits?? What sort of nonsense, keep an dead ind=uraty alive, for what purpose, just to over oay a few 100 miners who had held the country to ransom onec too often. It was to the deligt of every decent person in the UK when Scargill was trounced. And yes, old son, it was the Unions that killed British industry....
@bolloxinator I would add that the pay rise servicemen got immediately the Baroness came into office, was the pay rise that we should have had in1975, 1976, 1977, 78 and 79. It was what the country was obligated to and denied by another perfidous labour government.
..and by the way, Cam-moron failed to win, didn't he? Even after a 3-year campaign against Brown, who was left the least respected PM since Thatcher, he failed to win. He nonced around London the next day making banal speeches and acting like he'd won, then got on the blower to his private school chum Clegg to help him out. So let's not pretend the Tories won, OK? Their 'winning' is something like their 'working'. Hard work is NOT playing the stock exchange or awarding onesself a bonus.
@bolloxinator Who is Prime Minister?? Dave Snooty!!! I would say that getting 2 million more votes than the disgusting and morally bankrupt labour party was a win...and what about Briwns disgraceful refusla to concede, what a shower! So go on..tell me, what have you done for your country?
ITs just capitalism , seems to me everyone competeing makes a winner ecconomy but then since everyone else lost out ALL of them collapse, as a historian i must say if the system of european military alliances lead to both world wars then perhaps ecconomic wars of survival are caused in a similar way.Captialism sucks. Need some brainiac to think of a better way.
Left/right they are both sides of the same old tired game.Bit of a commie myself but i dont agree with the past.Man look up to the sky and see the opporunitys people are pissing away every day.Climate change capitalism? sod that put the UN in charge and conquer the stars ffs. My God your commenting as if the passage of history is a new thing. We might as well blame a lack of industrial investment in the 1900's for this reseccion.Maybe we could even blame the yanks for their declaration of independance taking away a valuable cash centre.OFC u could just see that a patchwerk of 100 odd important countries all trying to outdo each other is bound to lead to a total collapse of ecconomics every once in while. but what ho chaps thats just capitalism.
Cameron's laissaiz faire econmics is not the solution to economic recession. Look at every single recession in history, it was interventionist public spending that saved economies. Regardless, polititons won't "Save Britain", claiming Cameron as your saviour is just a misguided as the Americans who think Obama will sort all of thier problems.
MrToryTom, Britain is already coming out of this recession - thanks to Brown and public spending, we've experienced a seemingly mild, 1 and a half year recession. I can guarantee that under Cameron, it would've been much worse. It's simple economics - the economy relies on the majority, that is, the working class, for spending, which is why it was vital Brown helped secure poorer families. Cameron would've simply pretty much cut public spending so much we'd go back to 6 hour hospital queues
Brown if elected as PM in the 2010 will put up tax and cut. Mr Cameron will cut yes but in the right places; Browns cuts will be all over the place and we may be coming out of recession but the country will still feel like in recession because of the debt that labour has left us all with.
Labour made us all have debt and we conservative will have to cut because thats the only way to fix these problems but with labour ,debts will only get bigger because they borrow and borrow and make even more debts. So which government do you want to be under? A government that borrows so you get more debt or a government that uses your money in the right places and knows how capitalism really works.
However before the 2009/10 recession Clinton (a liberal american politicion) passed the Glass Steegle act which did what Thatcher did to the City to Wall Street, and more. Naturally this caused banks to relocate buisness to wall street damaging the British financial sector. This left Britain with a less powerful financial sector and next to no regulation as we went into the recession. When a politition leaves office thier work isn't revoked, it often lives on.
This comment is incredibly ill-informed. Glass-Steagall was passed in the early 30's when FDR was president. It was weakened weakened by a mix of supreme court rulings, central bank decisions and legislation from both Republicans and Democrats and finally killed in 1999 by the financial services modernization act (proposed by a Republican, signed by Clinton).
The relocation of banks you allude to simply didn't happen, though it is true that Britain also deregulated.
Blair was Chancellor of the Exchequer for 10 years, then? And Thatcher's been out of power for 20 years, for fuck's sake, how the hell has she contributed to this recession?
Allow me to explain, in the 1970's and early 1980's Mrs Thatcher and her government decided to pass a series of acts deregulating the banks allowing them much more freedom in borrowing money amongst other things. This is essentially her financial legacy. Now when the banks were deregulated, buisness came to London a good thing that increased the British financial sector. However the downside was banks abused thier power and borrowed irresponsibly causing the recession.
You are only telling half the story - deregulation allowed banks to do stupid things, but it didn't compel them to. There is also the issue of moral hazard - banks assumed they would get bailed out if things went south.
It isn't so much about too much or too little government, it is about a combination of policies (deposit insurance and deregulation) that just don't work together.
You also have to remember that too much regulation can cause stagnation, as occurred before Maggie's tenure as PM
Allow me to explain, in the 1970's Thatcher's government passed a series of acts giving banks for more freedom to banks for borrowing and loaning. This was an attempt to boost britains dwindling financial sector and a prime example of Lassaiz faire policy. However soon after this the banks became irresponsible with thier lendings and greedy causing them to borrow too much, eventually the system completely failed causing the 2009/10 recession.
definately not directly, but neoliberal economics caused the instability that lead to boom and bust, and thatcher was the forerunner of british neoliberal policies. closest link i can think of really.
Some people are so ignorant with statements like 'Oh Cameron will sort that out' or 'We must trust in Gordon Brown'. Governments can do very little to control the economy and it has always been that way. Admittedly, I'd vote Conservative if anything, but I'm well aware that they can't end the recession.
Bring back spitting image! Justin Lee Collins, are you listening? Get a campaign going! Such as waste - Gordon Brown would have been great to see as a rubber chicken.
If the EU elites can sit about thinking of a universally acceptable (to them) name for yoghurt, then I don't think we will rush to the Euro - unless Gordon tries to sneak it through out of spite, knowing the Tories would be less keen, and that Clegg is too quirky to win the candy-bar.
What does Europe have against 1 (unit of currency) notes?

Cameron will fix our broken economy and our pound and everything else really will have to be fix after brown touched it.
MrTORYTOM 2 years ago
Cameron's laissaiz faire econmics is not the solution to economic recession. Look at every single recession in history, it was interventionist public spending that saved economies. Regardless, polititons won't "Save Britain", claiming Cameron as your saviour is just a misguided as the Americans who think Obama will sort all of thier problems.
dredyouall2 2 years ago
We cant carry on with public spending or Tax will have to go up for every one.
Cameron has the right views to build britain unlike brown who wont do anything and just lets all of the Business and companies hit the wall.
MrTORYTOM 2 years ago 2
MrToryTom, Britain is already coming out of this recession - thanks to Brown and public spending, we've experienced a seemingly mild, 1 and a half year recession. I can guarantee that under Cameron, it would've been much worse. It's simple economics - the economy relies on the majority, that is, the working class, for spending, which is why it was vital Brown helped secure poorer families. Cameron would've simply pretty much cut public spending so much we'd go back to 6 hour hospital queues
TheEmoKiller3000 2 years ago
Brown if elected as PM in the 2010 will put up tax and cut. Mr Cameron will cut yes but in the right places; Browns cuts will be all over the place and we may be coming out of recession but the country will still feel like in recession because of the debt that labour has left us all with.
MrTORYTOM 2 years ago
Labour made us all have debt and we conservative will have to cut because thats the only way to fix these problems but with labour ,debts will only get bigger because they borrow and borrow and make even more debts. So which government do you want to be under? A government that borrows so you get more debt or a government that uses your money in the right places and knows how capitalism really works.
MrTORYTOM 2 years ago
When you say "already" you forget that Britain was the last G20 nation to come out of recession.

When you said 'simple' economics, are you sure you din't mean 'stupid'?

However before the 2009/10 recession Clinton (a liberal american politicion) passed the Glass Steegle act which did what Thatcher did to the City to Wall Street, and more. Naturally this caused banks to relocate buisness to wall street damaging the British financial sector. This left Britain with a less powerful financial sector and next to no regulation as we went into the recession. When a politition leaves office thier work isn't revoked, it often lives on.
dredyouall2 1 year ago
This comment is incredibly ill-informed. Glass-Steagall was passed in the early 30's when FDR was president. It was weakened weakened by a mix of supreme court rulings, central bank decisions and legislation from both Republicans and Democrats and finally killed in 1999 by the financial services modernization act (proposed by a Republican, signed by Clinton).
The relocation of banks you allude to simply didn't happen, though it is true that Britain also deregulated.

After BROWN touched it?
We're still facing the aftermath of Thatcher's regime...Brown has done all he can to try and turn back what both Thatcher and Blaire have done
Zidane234 2 years ago
Blair was Chancellor of the Exchequer for 10 years, then? And Thatcher's been out of power for 20 years, for fuck's sake, how the hell has she contributed to this recession?
gregorioallegri 2 years ago
Allow me to explain, in the 1970's and early 1980's Mrs Thatcher and her government decided to pass a series of acts deregulating the banks allowing them much more freedom in borrowing money amongst other things. This is essentially her financial legacy. Now when the banks were deregulated, buisness came to London a good thing that increased the British financial sector. However the downside was banks abused thier power and borrowed irresponsibly causing the recession.
dredyouall2 1 year ago

@gregorioallegri
definately not directly, but neoliberal economics caused the instability that lead to boom and bust, and thatcher was the forerunner of british neoliberal policies. closest link i can think of really.

Some people are so ignorant with statements like 'Oh Cameron will sort that out' or 'We must trust in Gordon Brown'. Governments can do very little to control the economy and it has always been that way. Admittedly, I'd vote Conservative if anything, but I'm well aware that they can't end the recession.

also it was his fault for that credit crunch and its time for a change

the credit crunch wasnt entirely his fualt.
it was an accident that had been waiting to happen and had been for at least a decade
