This is just one mans personal preference. You don't have to put your levers in the way he says because it's "right" Have your levers in the position that is most comfortable for you.
The free sag (from the bike's own weight) info in print in the video is backward and wrong. If the value is too small ( say 10-15mm) it's over sprung, go to a softer spring to bring into 30mm range. If the value is too big/ soft, (45-50), a stiffer spring will bring it into 30mm range. Don't see how they got that wrong.
stop fighting about whats a "pussy" dirtbike or not just because you have a huge bike like a cr500 that it means your fast. ever heard "its the rider , not the bike"
@OriginalBroadcasting I heard Roger DeCoster say: "No bike in the world is going to make a good rider out of a bad rider". You can review this sentence in "Legacy of Motocross" in the Campfire Scene. :) That means I agree.
@thehate2292 who said british are the best at riding he did not say that, but british are the best at enduro just look at david knight.."WORLD ENDUROCHAMPION" so i guess that means british are the best at riding lol cocksucker

Trying to tell somebody else how to set up their bike, is like telling Carmicheal to use the Pastrana bend on his bars.........Sorry little ady, but my hands dont even fit in an xxl glove, do you really think I could ever have issues reaching the levers?
For me (250 EXC 09 - very varied tracks - 70kg nude like a worm) :
I added usefull push-purge which i use about ten times a day + 2.5 Oil with 130mm of air left + almost min compression setting (bottom of the fork) + bit more rebound slowing (top of the fork) + less pre-constrain (also top but alu setting - only 1 turn). That's much better than origin settings for me, now i'm fine tuning rapid/slow rear settings... Now i know how to set, i'll have to learn how to ride...and buy a pair of balls.
some excellent comments on here. very interesting to see that everybody rides very different styles. i like to keep my levers slightly town too but i wud never go downhill sat down and i definately wud not put my foot under the brake lever. fuck that!
I ride in the bush alot through rocky tracks and around hilly circuits. I have a KTM 250excf 08. Just wondering what notch I should have my front forks at and should I mess around with the rebound adjuster at the top of the forks?
@Rambl147 i recomend lower compresion to absorb small stuff better and higher rebound to keep suspention from packing down and alow it to skip around these are my setings
I always used to have my leavers pointing down like any typical school boy motocrosser, but after going on a motocross school i was told to put them flat because having them pointing down means further to reach, which can be a cause of arm pump, and/or if your really keen obviously takes a few miliseconds longer to get on the front brake.
I have my bars tilted slightly back like Rc used to and my levers slightly down like bubba. I ride with one finger on the clutch and brake at all times so im ready to get off the power instantly. But are you sure arm pump is increased by having them downwards? I never have them as far as this guy in the clip though.
There is a set screw on the top.. throw it on a stand so the front wheel is off the ground. lossen the screw, it will let air in or out. Tighten the screw. Do this often, its very easy.
So true! When the weight is not on the pegs, even when setting/standing over or behind the rear fender, there is no control for crossing ruts and taking hits. Alternate footpeg weighting to control descents here is a matter of survival. Setting down = flying W and a cartwheel ride to the bottom or meeting a tree, rock or stump...
Always weight on the pegs downhilling for control and balance. Rear suspension is loaded when setting and you lack leg absorption and weight distribution adjustments over obstacles on the decent. Getting out of a sharp edged rut on a decent while setting, almost impossible whereas when in a standing position they can be crossed, ridden or escaped from as the bike is free to move under your body instead of a trapped lump on the seat. Ever cartwheel down a hill, legs trapped under the bars?
If the hill is steep enough or long enough.. the arms are none too long. Leaver reach becomes a major issue. If the bike is knocked out of control or a near over the bars hit is taken, it can mean the difference between a recovery or a crash. Clutch neutral is sometimes the only way over a sharp parallel rut & no violent over the bars pitch that could place you 75-100 feet of air before hitting the ground and cartwheeling... No way to have enough elbow left to keep em up in this condition!
I don't know anyone that runs with their levers straight out. when you ride standing up, its too hard to get your elbows down and get your fingers back on the levers. You guys are right about getting your foot/ankle broke or smashed. that is the last place I want my foot, I say keep your feet and toes above the pegs, that way they are already half way to pulling them to safety when you bounce off that rock or stump
HAHahahahahahahahahaahahahahahahahahahahahahahahah Better say "when i" because you're sepouse to do just like he shows. I se ou are pro if you now better than he did. Standing you've got more controll traction and the suspension work better :) By the keaning bqack like this you don fall over the handlebars. Pzdr
Yeah, well, I've been riding for only 26 years, and I have gone down thousands of steep-ass hills, and i never hang my ass off the back end. When going down a vertical drop that is like 5 feet or less ,sure, but not down a hill.
Doubtful survival of our downhills here with that thinking. Technical, long & steep descents require high front ride height and butt cheeks gripping the rear fender, otherwise the rear tire will not aid in slowing & steering the bike without enough weight on it, eventually getting pitched sideways or front suspension hit putting you over the bars... the arms can only hold out for so long.. legs are alot stronger gripping the rear of the seat/fender area. I am often behind the rear fender!
Never ride with your foot under the brake pedal! This guy is nuts! If you want to rip your foot from your ankel then go ahead! And the lever angle on the clutch and brake are ridiculous...that guy had his levers set okay to begin with. He gave advice on setting sag, but thats about it....
got my left foot/ankle "sandwiched" between hidden tree stump and 430WR chassis when go into right berm at a high speed, hard enuff to bottom both front and rear suspension. Man, that HURTS (flipped over at a distance)! If I place toes on peg, it might not have happened!
I never ride an enduro or motocross bike with my foot under the rear brake peddle, i broke my foot doin that once, i find it to be better to 'toe end' the footpegs, that way you are quicker on the brake and higher from the floor, should your foot get caught in a bank or hit a tree, it just end's up behind you rather than trapped between the bike and the bank or tree.
This is just one mans personal preference. You don't have to put your levers in the way he says because it's "right" Have your levers in the position that is most comfortable for you.
