called tarteel rules, you should accept it and feel it without arguments, singing means nice voice with nice tone , but respectfully we cannot say for quran reading in good voice ang good tones as singing, we can call it tajweed, which is in fact a kind of singing under quran rules.
here is an answer for some comments which couldnt verify between singing a song and reading quran the way it should be , whatever you call it, when any one
Everybody get over the singing or reciting arguments esp when most of u don't know what Ur talking about..just everybody recite as good and as proper as u can..n focus on the things that matter understanding it living it etc..the answer is real simple..but I'm gna keep it to myself as to not start another argument
First is Nahâwand melody. Second is Nahâwand mode Jawâb (mode response of first melody). Third, like it said, Rast melody. Fourth, Rast mode Jawâb. Fifth, Jihârka. Sixth & seventh are Jihârka mode Jawâb. Last, Jihârka combines with 'Ajam.
you people seem to be in a perdiciment....these are called maqamats...difrent variations in tone to make it sound different an art of reading quran..tajweed is most important...after that this comes in to play the only diff is this training method is a lil unorthodox but its getting the job done so no harm
Insha Allah, we muslims can take the rulings of this religion seriously and do teh research in order to have the Correct understanding.
This relgion of Ours is no Joke and should not be taken lightly. One should not blindly follow what is taught to him, but first confirm his teachings by asking teh Scholars of Ahl Sunnah wa Jumaah, in order to see which proofs are Sahih(reliable) and which opinions are Sahih.
this is a science of tones and the way to deliver the words , and one of the things to know that every one who recites quran uses one of these system either you notice it or not, on the other hand the style that you see had meanings, some of them meaning of strength and some meanings of saddness and soo , so depending on the ayah your tone should be delivered, also not to forget that quran is unlike peom it has different rythm which no musician on the face of earth can come close to.
So you're telling me there is a difference between "reciting" and "singing"? even if there is, how do you know the difference? reality is, maqamat (different styles/tones) came long before modern music and both musicians and reciters use it to beautify their voices. So no need to cringe my friend, just enjoy it.
Whatever, is that why there are many hadiths from Prophet Muhammad where the Prophet tells us to recite Quran with music. Then there are other hadiths which he says beautify the quran with your voices.
Music is Haram! Ibn Abbas, the cousin of the prophet(pbuh), who was given Knowledge of the Religion states it in his Tafsir, that Music is Haram. Also, all the scholars of Ahul Sunnah say that the Beutification is with teh correct tajweed, and reciting with fear and sadness.
Walahi brohter, I might be wrong in saying that this brother sings it, b/c my knowledge on this matter is deficient, im just tellign you what it sounds like to me.
music played by musical instruments, is haram in certain situations. Reciting quran with music without being accompanied by a musical instrument is permitted as long as it is not disrespectful. Reciting with tajweed is NOT beautification. Tajweed means to read properly or approriately.
It is forbidden to disregard teh Quran when it is being recited. Yet you say we can play music alongside the Quran. Auzubillah.
Listen, Im only trying to tell you what is correct according to this religion of ours.
Bring you proof if yo are truthfull!
The scholars say,
"You should strive to read the Quran in a nice sounding voice. One who was given a pleasant voice should strive as much as they are able. This should never resemble the style of music and songs."
And you actually call those hadiths proof?? They mean nothing because different people and different scholars intrepret them differently. Some scholars say beautifying the quran with your voice is reciting quran melodiously. Even some of the most extremist Islamic sects can't deny this; we hear a lot of Saudi quran reciters reading quran with music (sudais, al-ghamdi, etc.)
Lol, Achi, I finaly understand why me and you are arguing. Its because your english isnt so good(no offense).
You keep saying, Quran reciting "with Music", which I understand as meaning, playing a song from a CD or something and reciting Quran at the same time. Which is obviously haram.
But what you mean when you say reciting with Music, is reciting the Quran in a beautiful way which sounds somewhat like music?
You need to work on your english, I never said Quran shouldn't sound beautiful.
I said, it should not be SUNG! Learn what teh word "sung" means in the english language, and then come back and speak with me achi.
And you say Saudis are extremist?! HAAHAHAHHAH
Learn your religion Achi. The saudis follow the religion how the Prophet taught it and how the Sahaba and Salaf understood it. How is it Extremist to follow the religion the way the prophet taught it?
I'm not the one who needs to work on his English, it's you. Obviously, you yourself don't know the meaning of music. Music is anything that sounds melodic, rhythmic, and/or harmonic. It can be VOCAL OR instrumental. And i'm sorry if i said saudis are extremists; i didn't mean to offend anyone. It would be more appropriate if I said they are the most conservative out of all other Muslims. And for the record, to sing according to Merriam Webster means: to produce MUSICAL tones by means of voice.
it seems to me, you take more heed to secular knoledge and Dictionaries, than you do to the Quran and Sunnah, and the Sholars , heres a quote from wikipedia,
Qur'an reading is the reading (tarteel, tajwid, or taghbir) aloud, reciting, or chanting of portions of the Qur'an. It is not considered music by Muslims and when recited the style is structurally dissimilar from music (even secular Arab music). The reciter is called a muqri' , tālī, murattil, mujawwid, or most commonly a qari."
LOL, wikipedia, that's a VERY Islmaic source indeed! Besides, the people who edit the different sections of wikipedia could be ANYONE. Although it's very informative, it is not very reliable.
Recitation (singing of the Qur'an is strictly forbidden in Islam recitation must be done according to rules of pronunciation, intonation, and caesuras established by Muhammad, though first recorded in the eighth century CE The most popular reading is that of Hafss on the authority of asim. Qur'an reading may be based on one to three tones only. Similarly, each melodic passage centers on a single tone level but the melodic contour and melodic passages are largely shaped by the reading rules
How dare you call the Quran Music, while Allah never called it music, and the Prophet(pbuh) never called it Music and teh Sahaba never called it music.
Rather they disliked Music. How dare you call it singing, when Allah never called it singin and the Prophet(pbuh) never called it singing, and the Sahaba never called it Singing.
You are adding these Ideas. We were givin the rules of recitation, which sounds beutiful.
LOL, what are you talking about? I never said quran is music or a song. Yes quran's dignity should not be lowered by attributing it to any kind of music, it is much higher and much more deep and meaningful than music will ever be. But, reciting the quran within the Arabic maqam system in a way that does not lower the quran's dignity is not haram and this doesn't mean the reciter has to sing it like it's some kind of modern song.
Al-Baraa' Ibn 'Aazib narrated that the Prophet said: "Beautify the Quran with your voices (i.e. by reciting it in a pleasant nice voice)." (Abu Daawood) The preferred reading is the quiet reading, where one hears himself without disturbing others.
Again Acki, Im not here to say you are wrong, or this young man reciting is wrong, I am just putting forth the daleel for what is correct in our religion.
Abu Dawood's interpretation is highly unlikely. How can you beautify the quran by your voice if no one except yourself can hear it? How would it be beautiful? Who would judge whether it's beautiful or not?? It's not a very logical statement.
you seriously need to calm down. Why are you so sensitive to the word music?? Please don't tell me when a qari recites a surah in murattal style in maqam Rast, for example, he is not making his VOICE (not the quran) musical and rhythmic!!
In the narration of al-Baraa` Ibn Aazib (may Allah be pleased with him) the Prophet said: Adorn your voices with the Quran. (Related in Abu Dawud. Authenticated by Al-Albaanee)
Imam Ahmad said, The reciter should beautify his voice with the Quran and recite it with a sense of sadness and contemplation.
"Beutification" means. The scholars of Islam say, The purpose of beautifying one's voice is to facilitate the understanding of the meaning and to move anyone that might hear it and to appreciate the beauty of the style and words. Reciting it melodiously to entertain (as a song would) is haraam (forbidden). A truly beautiful and melodious recital is that which depends on correct pronunciation and perfect application of the tajweed rules.
of course, reciting quran melodiously just to entertain others and show off is absolutely haram. However, if the reciters reason for reciting it melodiously is to remind people of the day of Judgement (using the more sad melodies), and using happier melodies to give good news of paradise for believers, then it is highly recommended.
Shaykh al-Islam Ibn Taymiyyah said, Reciting the Quran in a melodious way whereby it resembles the melody of a song is disliked and is an innovation, a ruling clearly mentioned by Malik, al-Shafii,
Ahmad bin Hanbal and other imams as well.
As the proof clearly shows, its is forbidden to make the Quran sound like Music, or to play it along with music(of anykind, with or withouth instruments). Im not even talking about whehter or not music is Halal or haram tha is a different topic.
oh really, if singing is really haram and all of that, then what do you have to say about the songs that Prophet Davood used to sing that would attract even the birds attention? Reading quran with music is not haram, and those hadith's don't say explicitly it's haram. Those scholars who say it is, have no proof and are only intrepreting what they think is right. It's very simple, tajwid by itself cannot beautify a quran recitation.
I agree you with you that quran shouldn't be recited along with music. If quran is recited melodiously to a point which it wouldn't be called a song or any form of music, it is allowed. Do you agree with this??
Yes I agree with you, it seems we just misunderstood eachother for the most part.
I am not sure if the guy in this video is doing something good or not, I was just stating that I didn't like it b/c I "felt" he might have been going overboard.
I didn't ask any sheik or anybody, it was just my opinion, so I am probably wrong anyway.
Ok brother, it seems we now finally understand eachother. Lol, lets stop arguing. Jazak Allah khair.
There is no restriction on beautifying the voice as long as you don't violate the rules of tajweed. Singing and reciting are one and the same in this context. The only difference is (1) with Quran, you need to abide by the rules of tajweed and (2) you are not allowed to use musical instruments. So enjoy!
Maashaa Allah he reads well. It needs to be noted however, that there is a big difference of opinion as to the permissibility of reciting the Qur'an with musical melodies such as Yaser is demonstrating in this video.
Notably Dr Ayman has written against their usage as well as others who have written or spoken against.
he is a very nice recitor but where in the heck is anyones beard at in that room..thos are some pretty close shaves they got there..maybe they cant grow them..and allah knows best
Thats right ....Im Christian and I enjoy hearing the word of God no difference to me , but someone always will complain and make a big deal ....no one is perfect
Good point but we should give them 70 excuses as Imam al-Nawawi said is fard.
Look at two issues:
1) Take the goof and leave the bad
or
2) If choosing a teacher then one can say well: "I want to study with someone who practices the deen inwardly and outwardly" but as far as making comments it is ghiba (slander) which one should avoid.
Ghiba is worse than shaving one's beard.
but the best is the one who keeps his beard and watches his/her tongue.
you will notice there are pictures of mustapha ismail on the walls on some of the youtube videos of al sharqawi reciting and the old man reciting with him helping is ahmed mustapa who has the largest collection of mustapha ismail recordings - he use to follow him and record him and he taught yasir al sharqawi to recite using the same principles as mustapha ismail

funkeezee 3 years ago
Yes, there is a difference. If singing and reciting mean teh same thing, why do they have different definitions.
Singing is the act of producing musical sounds with the voice, and also the act of singing a song.
Reciting is a saying aloud in public of something memorized
a piece of prose or verse memorized for this.
And while you can recite a song, the Quran is not a song at all and is not to be sung as one.

It is as simple as this Achi, you CANNOT "SING" the Quran, because the QURAN is NOT a song.
It is only possilbe to sing a song. IT is impossible to sing a recitation.
This is why I say you cannot sing the Quran.
You can only sing a Song.
The Quran is not a Song.

Ghiba is worse than shaving one's beard.
but the best is the one who keeps his beard and watches his/her tongue.
salams :)

you're right,
you will notice there are pictures of mustapha ismail on the walls on some of the youtube videos of al sharqawi reciting and the old man reciting with him helping is ahmed mustapa who has the largest collection of mustapha ismail recordings - he use to follow him and record him and he taught yasir al sharqawi to recite using the same principles as mustapha ismail
