It was a sweet look at life. It speaks like any unusual poem. You need to open your eyes and see life in a backwards view to see all of the beauty you miss normally.

Did you notice how the people in the background looked at them with distaste? This is what people think of someone or something different.

maybe the whole idea is that without love, they're out of place in a backwards world. or maybe, they're really the ones who are backwards and it's the world that's moving forwards. once they realize their love, they can become a part of the "backwards world" they've been isolated from. just a thought.

I get the metaphor, but it's not consistent at all. Once they see that they "move forward," they demonstrate their excitement and growing "love" with backwards gestures that exploit the gimmick but don't make sense in this context.

Come on EW, you can do better.

i kind of hate to admit it because it was technically very accomplished, but i totally agree. i wish the director/writer had found a way to end it by staying true to the format rather than just peter out and freeze the last shot with a "matrix" wraparound. a great start, though.
