hey i just bought the beachtek dxa 2t adapter and i'm using it with my canon vixia hf m30 and the sound is quite low is there any way i could fix that??
@OnlineVideoExpert Thanks, I have this camera as well, albeit the US NTSC model. Also, do you know of any good aftermarket matte boxes for this camera? And, does the fact that the output on the Beachtek DXA-2T and the input on the HDC-HS700 are unbalanced connections lead too poor audio quality and signal interference? I bought the Sennheiser MKE 400 shotgun mic, sight unseen, after watching one of the other videos you have on here as well as an audio-technica Pro 24-CM stereo condenser mic.
You'd just need to make sure you got the correct adapter ring size.
You should not have poor audio quality with the unbalanced audio accessories you bought, although obviously XLR balanced audio is the best option, but not available on prosumer camcorders.
if i put a headphone splitter on the 3.5mm out on the beachtek, and then hook up a 3.5mm male to 3.5mm male cord to the camera's mic input, then plug headphones into the other end of the splitter, would i be able to record and monitor at the same time? (I use the canon 550d, which, being a dslr, doesn't have a headphone output)
@markopolo9608 I just did a test similar to what you asked (plugging headphones directly into the 3.5mm output and it did NOT work, so unfortunately not. And even if that did work, remember that you would only be hearing what is essentially going into your Canon 550d, NOT what the final output would be as many of the DLSRs use AGC (automatic gain control) to raise of lower the incoming sound.
In regards to the iPhone idea, is the jack not 3.5mm? or are the out put voltages just too high? why wouldn't it work? I'm trying to build an 'in-car' dual mic kit to plug into my phone while recording video...
@gmlasam you need a mic out on the camcorder, which my Panasonic HS700 has, and which I would highly recommend as a consideration when purchasing a camcorder.
I do have an external mic input on my DV camcorder, Canon ZR960. I'm having difficulty getting a decent audio using my Behringer UB802 mixer. I connect the mixer from the main output to the mic input of the camcorder and it is distorted. The mic Im using is a Shure SM57 dynamic microphone. Would this device help? I guitar videos and I often mic my guitar amplifiers for better tone.
@gmlasam there is a digital output monitor on the HS700, and you can modify the volume both on the Beachtek DXA-2T and on the HS700 itself (on incoming and outcoming volume).
@gmlasam I use a pair of Sony MDR7506 Headphones plugged into the HS700 to monitor the sound. You need a camcorder that allows monitoring of the sound.
@SonicOrbStudios The 2 main advantages of the Beachtek are that it allows 2 audio inputs at the same time and you can manually set the gain on both channels individually.
@OnlineVideoExpert thanks for the info. I rarely use two mics at once so I ended up getting a TRS to XLR cable and it sounds fine on my camera. I will have to try a beachtek box some time...my school has a few, it may give me more gain and a cleaner signal.
Hi I have a Canon HD Camera. I was wonderingi f you could tell me if I have to purchase a holder in order to place the camera on top of Beachtek DXA-2T once it's mounted on the tripod?
@FOSDP The Beachtek has the standard 'screw' to which you can attach almost any camcorder so you don't have to purchase anything else in order to fit the Beachtek to your camcorder AND to a tripod.

hi, thanks for the reply, just show how much the battery protrudes out and how much additional usage time you get. how much longer it takes to charge, price and if it interferes with the viewfinder. does it make the camera heavier.

@TimTV83 I didn't look for a Matte Box for that camcorder, but I was looking at this one for my Sony NX5E:
Ebay search : Matte Box XL1,XL2,HVX200,EX1,EX3,GH1,5D MK II,7D
You'd just need to make sure you got the correct adapter ring size.

Trust that helped.

Can you show where to put in the battery?

@keijimuto There is no battery, it is passive device - meaning it's not self powered.

Do U use headphones to monitor the sound?
AMOVIEGUY14 1 year ago
@AMOVIEGUY14 Yes, plugged into my HS700 camcorder. You can't monitor sound directly from the Beachtek unit.

How do you monitor the microphone signal to help determine how much gain must be adjusted on the beachtek?

I have a canon Vixia camcorder with mini jack in and have been wondering how these BeachTek boxes compare to a standard adapter cable for XLR mics.

@SonicOrbStudios The Beachtek accepts two XLR inputs and has a mini jack out that should fit any camcorder that accepts a mini-jack sound inout.

@FOSDP No holder for the BeachTek DXA-2T required, it mounts on the tripod from below and has a screw to allow any camcorder to mount on top.
