Um.. Yes guys this is definitely Frank, from 1942 so its a very old version but it is absolutely 100% percent Frank. Hell it was one of his first solo records released on the Bluebird label.
We all have our opinions and I prefer the 1961 Reprise version! He became a much better interpreter of the lyric as he aged! Don Costas arrangement is perfect but this vintage Frankie is fun!
this is totally Frank, his voice changed a lot when he got older, but you can hear it is the same if you really know anything about Sinatra. I'm only 30 and LOVE him, and can tell his voice anywhere...he was amazing. Wish I could've met him.
This is Frank in the early years of his career. He had a great voice. Vic Damone also does a heck of a good version of this song. Then there is Paul Williams whom I think
performs Night and Day with The Temptations magnificiently.
Nobody but nobody, not even Sinatra, sings this song as Porter wrote it. He synchopates the rhythm and all the famous interpretations smooth it out. SSorry Cole
No way this is Frank Sinatra... This singer has vocal control, multi-octave capacity, and sounds nothing like Frank. What kind of 91 thousand prank is this?
Frank Sinatra had a way with a lyric- not unlike Ella Fitzgerald- that makes you believe every word. He could sing the phone book and make it compelling; give him a Cole Porter song, and you've got magic.
INCREDIBLE! Really sounds like Frank to me, especially when he sings that line "there's an oh such a hungry yearning" (1:40). Thank you so much for posting this. What a treat to hear the tenderness of youth in his voice.
He equals the magic of Fred Astaire singing it to Ginger Rogers (and of course does it better, technically speaking).
I totally agree. This is basically the composers arrangement. It appears to be recorded earlier in Frank's career. Perhaps he didn't have the juice to Sinatraize things back then. Perfectly done in the style of the era in which it was written.
It's good to discover a like minded person concerning this particular Sinatra rendition. Although compelling,I find for example his version with Nelson Riddle recorded in the 50s just a little too slick and brassy for what is a very poignant love song. You use the term 'Sinatraize' which sums up his later work very aptly.
Glad to hear from a like minded person. His subsequent versions e.g. with Nelson Riddle although compelling sounded rather too slick and brassy to my ears for what is essentially a poignant love song. You used the word 'Sinatraize' very aptly.
Yes, this IS Ole Blue Eyes. He recorded the song at least five differfent times in the studio. This was the first time he sang it in the studio. Very nice I think.
This song was written by Cole Porter. Mr. Porter was a genius and this song was made famous by the musical that it was written for. The first verse of this song that was omitted by Mr. Frank Sinatra was the verse that made the song what it is.
Type in Hobeken 4, when he was in his early 20's or 19 or something. You'll be surprise how much higher pitched his voice was and how different he sounded.
Exqusite version.....though I do agree with other posters that ol' Frankie's voice certainly did get huskier & deeper over the years. But he aged...as we all do...and few people have the same voice in their 70's that they had in their 20's. His heavy smoking & drinking naturally didn't help things much. But with all his faults, he's still one of the greatest singers that ever lived. THANK YOU for sharing this delightful gem from yesteryear with us! Happy Holidays!
can someone please tell me its defo Sinatra? as it doesnt sound like him, unless its when he was really young? otherwise i dont think it is him! help!
Ahem.... looks like I may be wrong... he was quite young, yeah, before tobacco changed his voice... There´s another video, Stardust, also quite young with the Lucky Strike orchestra and the Hit Paraders, in 1943. Check it out, his voice sounds differently, so I'm still in doubt.
Of course, that's Frank. It really shows how his voice changed as he got older. No wonder he was the super star that he was, especially in his early days when his voice was unbelievable.
When you've all stopped your argueing - this is most certainly Mr S - but a very young ,still wet behind the ears Frank. He had yet to reach the heights of magnificence acheived in later years.

@oozer23 Actually U2's version beats both Sinatra & Cole Porter for they remade it into an edgy cool & freaky obsession song. Look it up.

The intro lyrics to Night and Day (not incuded on this recording):
"Like the beat beat beat of the tom-tom
When the jungle shadows fall
Like the tick tick tock of the stately clock
As it stands against the wall
Like the drip drip drip of the raindrops
When the summer shower is through
So a voice within me keeps repeating you, you, you"
