BIGJERRR1, I completely agree with your fine comment, I just would add they were such ahead of their time that among greatest bands of these days, each and everyone found something to copy in their sounds and music. STEVE and RONNIE........
@En3usiast o yeah! this performance typifies so much of the mod take on RnB, with the energy, soul, attitude and well, just the whole groove... groovyyyyyyyyy!!!
@OzziePete1 Kenney was in his teens for nearly the entire time he was in the Small Faces. He was 16 when they had the first hit and he only just turned 20 when they broke up.
STEVE AND RONNIE REALLY HAD THEIR BAND TOGETHER. WENT 2 THE TOP AND STAYED THERE WITH ABSOLUTELY COMPLETE AUTHORITY AND IT ALWAYS SHOWED IN EVERYTHING THAT THEY DID JUST HOW MUCH THEY TRULY ENJOYED DOIN' WHAT THEY DID BEST. . .COMPLETENESS IN EVERY SENSE OF THE WORD AND MEANING. CAN YOU IMAGINE THESE GUYS WITH A FULL SET OF MARSHALLS? THE STAGE WOULD FALL DOWN WITH EXCITEMENT
WHEN EVERYTHING WAS ALOT EASIER AND A HELL OF ALOT BETTER, WITH MUCH MORE EXCITEMENT. THESE GUYS MAKE EVERYTHING LOOK SO EFFORTLESS, AND THEY SIMPLY KICK ASS, FROM BEGINNING TO END.
Steve was also an excellent guitarist. Just listen to all the complicated little riffs he does throughout the song. That's what I really like about it.
@philsturman And a good dancer. Most musicians don't seem to be inclined, which is really odd. The Beatles, Rolling Stones, The Kinks, none of them seem to have an ability to dance, Steve does.
@Khultan Steve did have an advantage over the "art school" crowd. He attended the Italia Conti Academy of Theatre Arts (it's where several of the top US dancers featured on Dancing With The Stars went to school much later) and his stint in Oliver probably helped with his dance training. But there is no question that he was a natural when it came to the moves.
@robertemmet321 But even before attending that Academy, partly out of real concerns for their son's delinquent actions at a certain school, Steve was ripping it up on the dance floors to the latest records as a juvenile/early teen.
@Syndicate93 This was my era, and I don't remember this kind of shirt having a particular name....it was the style, with the ruffle down the front, plus on the cuffs.
@Golokamusic It's a good job we don't, really! - they are miming to the studio-recorded version, NOT playing it live ...do you see Pipi Arnold anywhere on stage?
take me I'd treat you like a man! fucking love him! i cant believe they get no credit for any of this amazing stuff, Im so pissed that nobody ever reflects back to THEM!
@freedomchild68 Marriott set the standard for all rock voices, eveyone tried to copy him, yet he gets no credit. I find that sad. Most people dont know who he is.
But i don't think many people realise how many bands wanted him back in the day, Black Sabbath, Led Zeppelin to name a few, even the Stones wanted Marriot to play guitar but Jagger didn't, probably scared having a man with that much talent in the band....
@the1mwood Thats right. There was a book written about led zepplin which told of how Marriots' manager threatend to break Pages fingers if he offered the job to Marriot. Ill be damned if i can think of the name of that book.
@the1mwood Led Zeppelin didn't want him. The fact is that in the early stages of Jimmy Page's idea of forming a band to take the place of The Yardbirds, Page had Marriot in mind for a second guitarist and lead vocalist. Marriot's manager basically threatened Page if he got close to Marriot.
@beroth77 You can't compare this to videos from today. This is taken from the master, so when we speak "60s quality", I'd say it's close to excellent. And I'm not one of those writing "HQ" on a video with lousy quality
@SixtiesPopGold1 I just listened to a better quality youtube upload of this SAME take (in STEREO) - this is NOT taken from the "master" of a live performance, but from the studio-recorded version with the band miming along in some television studio (it could possibly be taken from the television "master") ...I mean, Pipi Arnold's voice is there, but she is nowhere to be seen!
What a well behaved and polite ( but appreciative) audience
