FYI, that's the post WWII-style insignia on the side of the plane. The two "bars" on either side of the star should be pure white... the red stripes were added after 1947 to mark the change from the WWII-era "US Army Air Force" to the post-WWII "United States Air Force". Not trying to nit-pick, but it a pretty well-known distinction among aircraft and WWII fans.
